  1. I have the extra large door. The flap is pretty heavy with magnets that hold it in place but both my cats learnt to use it within a day. One of my cats is only tiny and it isn't hard for her.
  2. I love my vet...and the receptionists.....and the assistants.....
  3. Is your Rotty going to be living with you as well?
  4. THere was that thread on here somewhere of the German (I think) backpacker who is a dog trainer in Germany and was looking for house sitting/dog sitting gigs while in Aus. From memory she was round Sydney at New Year.
  5. I'm keen to join in but as my foster dog ate my new DSLR I might have to start with iphone pics until I get a new body. Should only take a week or two, I hope that's ok. Mine will be 52wks of Rescue Dogs.. including my own:)
  6. Ohhhh, I'd never read that thread before. What a beautiful story!
  7. There are quite a few threads on this somewhere. I have a Pig in Mud door and it is awesome. So easy to put up and take down if you want to. All except one of my fosters have worked it out and the cats use it too.
  8. Mmm, good idea Kirislin. I am heading to New Zealand on Tuesday........
  9. A few months ago I bought a new Canon 550d DSLR. I love it to bits and have been taking heaps of photos. So, last weekend I went to the pound to do the temp testing taking my camera with me so I could take photos of all the death row doggies. I came home and left my camera in my backpack on the bench in the kitchen and went off to work. When I got home, I found my backpack out in the yard all chewed up, and yes, all chewed up along with it was my camera The screen is completely cracked and inoperable. Also, the 18-55mm lens is completely trashed. But, the body seems to be ok. I have removed the broken lens and can put a new one on. The flash still seems to work and apart from the fact that I cant see what comes out of it, I think it took a picture. Has anyone had to replace a screen before? What does it cost? Unfortunately, animal damage is not covered by insurance unless the animal does not live on the premises. I think it was my foster dog who ate it, spewing now that she is chipped under my name Anyway, if you have experience in this area please let me know.
  10. I just ordered some odourgo as well - talc flavour. My foster dog had urinary incontinence and peed on my couch. If I stick my nose right on it and sniff I can still smell it but otherwise it is all good. I have been using it on my floors, walls, dog bedding and I think I am addicted
  11. I met someone just recently who has an Ovtcharka. He guards their property which was somewhere near the Blue Mtns. He was HUGE! Apparently a lovely dog though. Not only a good guard dog but he loves checking in at home to see the family.
  12. I have timber floorboards and they are trashed!! Completely scarred with gouges from nails. I'm thinking about tiling the whole lot except bedrooms.
  13. Yeah, mine have a doggy door so they can be in or out whenever they want.
  14. Unfortunately some dogs are just chewers and apart from crating there is not a lot you can do. My 5yr old lab loves to chew. He has plenty of chew toys, gets plenty of exercise, has two other dogs to play with and I spend heaps of time with him. He just likes chewing! I pretty much hide everything. Well, yesterday he chewed the electric blanket on the spare bed. I've lost phones, doonas, pillows, orthotics, sunglasses, books, blankets, outdoor chairs and more Fortunately, I can't get too worked up about it. For all the love that he gives me he is worth it.
  15. Yeah, clearly a cock up on the vets part.......but still. As someone with a nearly 10yr old Rotty - ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh But yes, typical Rotty to wake up and want food
  16. Oh, I went down to Coles and got 4 collars, 3 leads, a sml kong, some other random chew thing and a wubba. All for $40. Bargain! I'd never seen the Wubba before. Won't see it again either. It was destroyed within 14min.
  17. Daily Mail - 14 October 2010 The dog who wouldn't die: Family's beloved Rottweiler wakes up after being put to sleep with TWO injections Putting down a much-loved family pet is every family's nightmare, just ask Matt Olivarez. He said a tearful goodbye to his 10-year-old Rottweiler Mia and watched the vet inject her twice with a lethal cocktail of drugs. Matt brought home the body in a blanket so the family could bury her the next day...but hours later he found she was ALIVE and wanted a bowl of food. Olivarez, from Redford, Michigan, said: 'For her to just wake up the next morning is very crazy. I watch scary movies. It was like a scene from Pet Sematary.' Now Mia, who suffers from severe spinal problems and is in so much pain she is unable to walk, may have to be put down for the second time after beating the death sentence. Matt's mother told the WXYZ-7 News website: 'Mia is a very special girl. She protected me when a pitbull came in my yard and tried to bite me. 'She protected my grandson when he was one-and-a-half years old from going out in the street by holding him by his T-shirt. 'And with her dying breath she tried to protect my son when the doctor came close to him to give HER her shot! 'OMG, how much more must we endure!! I don’t know what to do or what to tell my grandsons. We love her so much we just can’t stand to see her suffer. 'But we are to afraid to put her down again This is going to give us nightmares for a long time.' The vet declined to comment about Mia because he wants to verify it’s the same dog, according to the website. When told about his response, the grandmother said: 'How many rots are paralyzed in there hind quarters and living at the same address! 'I wish they would tell me to my face that is not our Mia. Just can't admit they messed up and now they're going to have the nerve to add insult to injury.'
  18. A 16-year-old labrador survived eight weeks with no food trapped in an abandoned tunnel house in the Southland town of Riverton. Gail was able to survive by using her own body fat and getting water from a hole in the roof, the Southland Times reported. The family pet was found by a neighbour in an unused tunnel house - or plastic greenhouse - across the road from the owner's property. Riverton man Lou Peterson said there were tears of joy when Gail walked up their driveway on Tuesday. http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article....jectid=10680471 Haha, good thing Gail is a Lab. She must be as big an eater as all the rest.
  19. Oh, that is awesome!!! It sounds like a lovely home for Allie. Ahhhhh updates, they make foster care all the more worth it
  20. Please desex. Unless you are breeding for a good reason it is just to much of a risk. And there are plenty of puppies out there that are nice. Oh, and just a friendly heads up. DOL'ers have long memories so deleting this thread because you don't like the answers won't work.
  21. Good luck getting anyone to come out and get them though. The pound has been closed all weekend due to no staff.
  22. OMG, have you seen what those trailers cost!!! I wanted to get one for my 9yr old Rotty as she can't walk as far as the others. Starting price $450!! Even more when you need one that holds 45kg. Go the basket!!
  23. I can't remember what mine is called but I buy it off Auusie Pooch Mobile. Works great on the dogs. I use it myself too cos it smells better then aeroguard.
