  1. Sorry Sky, I cant remember what my vet at the time said about jumping up exactly but I was told to stop Tyke from doing it incase he misjuged the height and fell back down/twisted. Ill never forget the first time he hurt his back then he jamp off the sofa. He just wouldnt stop screaming and couldnt move his back end. I didnt drive then so I picked him up and ran all the way to the vet with tears streaming down my face whilst he screamed. It was horrendous, hence Ill never let my dogs to it again. He did it alot more times until he finally learned but atleast I had heavy pain meds on hand to give him until I could get him to the vet. Bonnie has dislocated both knees from jumping off the outdoor table as a 7mth old pup. Hence even my big dogs arent allowed to jump unless they do it slowly.
  2. As soon as I read the article I recognised them, who could forget such a darling/unusual pair. Lovely story, I have often wondered what became of them, so happy to see they are reunited again. Can this please be posted in the rescue section, ALOT of the people in there will remember this duo.
  3. I used to allow my papillion to jump up and down from beds, sofas and cars (before I knew better), then he ended up with several slipped disks in his back from doing that exact thing . After that I put wooden boxes at different heights along the bottom of my bed so he could use them to climb up, and with alot of patience and treats (and trips to the vets) managed to train him not to jump down off the bed even when he was excited. Easy part was getting him to climb up them, just had to lure him with food a couple times but it took alot of time to train him not to jump down. Had to set him up, be on the bed with him, have someone ring the doorbell/call him and correct him if he tried to jump, praise with food when he used the steping blocks. I dont allow my Sibe/Amstaff up on my bed unless CALMLY invited as I dont want them to damage their backs in excitement either. They slowly clamber up on to the bed instead of jump. I would never let any future small dogs jump up on furniture, they would have to learn to wait to be picked up, would hate for them to go through what Tyke did.
  4. Welcome d22! Your going to love DOL! :D Same goes as everything one else. I walk my two whilst pushing the double pram, keep the leads seperate from the pram just in case and if ANY offleash dog approaches, I YELL aggressivly at them, stamp my feet or charge at them with my arms in the air. I have kicked offleash dogs before that have tried to attack my dogs as Bonnie would retaliate and I am sure their owner would prefer a bruised dog as opposed to a dead dog. I LOVE all dogs but my dogs and kids come first, if a dog acts aggressivly near my pram when my kids are in it, you can bet your life it will promtly get a boot up the backside.
  5. He might move into the bed in winter Cathy. Bonnie flat out refuses to lie on hard floors but Indie flat out refuses to sleep in the dog beds, on carpeted floors or even on our bed. He will last a few hours on our bed but only if the fan is on him, then he will go sleep on the floorboards near the screen door. Even if it is freezing and raining, he still wants the back door left open, failing that he lies on his back, all legs in the air and his stomach resting on the freezer/fridge. Generally in Winter he moves back into the dog bed and snuggles upto Bonnie, well, most nights. Wouldnt worry about it too much. Ive tried most things to convince Indie to stay in bed, mainly to stop him balding his elbows, but to no effect. Only solution would be to crate him at night so that he has no choice but to sleep on the soft bed. Cant wait to see his photos!!!!!!!!!!
  6. Bonnie is red raw too , driving me insane. Just have to constantly tell her to stop scratching. Shes been having Maseleb (sp) baths every fews days, antihistamine tablets most days and bepanthen rubbed into the worst bits. Shes going through stages of looking great and then the very next day she is a mess again. Main thing is keeping an eye an her and being able to tell her to stop it (otherwise she wont stop). I thought I was going to have to take her to the vet last week. I was out for a few hours and she had scratched her belly button to the point of almost tearing it (as with 2nipples~ one still looks horrendous), emergency bath and covering her in cream helped ALOT and she was back to looking normal again the next day. Trying to keep her inside as much as possible but as soon as she gets out, the first thing she does is "belly crawls" on the grass and plants

  8. ~ How happy and content does he look here! He looks like a different dog already. ps Sorry for keeping The Mack fanclub waiting for photos , please don't me
  9. Alot of people will remember Mack from Renbury. He arrived in an awful condition at 11years old. He was extremly underweight, his skin was like thick leather and he was covered in open pressure sores from years of neglect. Despite it all he still remained one of the sweetest dogs ever at Renbury, even playing and taking the young shy pup in the next run under his wing. Unfortunatly Mack developed a bad case of Kennel Cough just days before he was due to be released. With lots and love and care from all the Staff at Renbury and a strong will, he pulled through and went to his forever home with "Cathya". To Cathya and Brumby for saving this beautiful big boy, a GIGANTIC THANKYOU from all of us that fell in love with Darling old Mack. You truely are Angels! I will hand this thread over to Cathya for all of the lovely updates on dear old Mack....

  12. WARNING !!!! Contains a blurry image of a dog being hit by a car. This is another dog that risked it own life as it dragged the body of his companion to safety across 3lanes of traffic after an accident. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=36pubUl7jVQ
  13. Off tuna!!! Bonnie tends to express them herself when she gets too excited, only lasts a couple hours, Thank heavens! Well....unless she does is in the car, all over her lead and all over the car boot like she did the other day . Spent a looonnggg time trying to deoderise the car that day with carpet cleaner (not that you could see anything). ETA~ Perhaps it doesnt last a few hours but that how long she stays outside for until she is "clean" again lol.
  14. lol Same in this household, one antler is very much chewed, the other one is very much ignored. Ive even tried making it more appealing with peanut butter, they just like it off and totally ignore it again. Dogs, who would have them ;) .
  15. My old neightbour in Sydney had a blue/white light eyed(orangey, greeny) "AST", not too sure wether it had papers. All I can say is he was one magnificent looking dog.
  16. Wow, how much does your pup like the big boy in Renbury pound right now.
