Sort of like the tense, unhappy, dread face you have when you have a reactive dog and see another dog coming lol. Your not annoyed at the other dog but to the other owner your face of "far out, here we go again" probably makes you look like your pissed off at their dog.
-
Could be that they didnt mean to stare at you with hatred but more embarassed, annoyed that their child would have such a reaction and were trying not to show the child their annoyance. Parents getting annoyed at a childs dog phobia wouldnt have helped the child, ie see a dog-get into trouble means dog=tears and even worse reaction next time. Sorry just seeing it from the otherside of the fence. My eldest loved dogs untill 3 Labs (whom she was used to playing with in a friends house),once put outside, lunged and attacked the glass door seperating them from her(they went insane!Vicious was not the word and I adore dogs, they nearly broke the door and I have no doubt what would have happend), she was only 2. After that she would become hysterical when she saw ANY dog even if it was a chi an oval away (woke up with dog nightmares for 4months). I can assure you that I was gritting my teeth and had a pissed off look on my face when she did it but I couldnt get angry at her and I certainly wasnt angry at the dog owner. More P'd off that I wouldnt be having a dog in my home for some time untill I could fix the phobia. She started rubbing off on her younger sister and then I was really annoyed/taking deep breaths when she saw dogs. So could possibly be that the parents were not angry at you but more irritated at their kid "bloody hell, theres a dog, just great, now here comes the screaming ready 1..2...3.." and too worked up to apologise for the kid. Not saying thats the case but could be. ps I do think I apologised most of the time but 2 screaming kids can easily distract you from doing the polite thing sorry.

I have one very passive Sibe and one very excited Amstaff. Indie doesn't react to anything, he loves a good run but other than that he will just lazily plod over with a wagging tail, then fall asleep somewhere. He might lift his head if he hears the door but I wouldnt count on it. For a 10mth Sibe he is ridiculously passive. He is so easy to take anywhere and put into any situation, fantastic to live with. Bonnie (14mth) on the otherhand, ummmm, carefull consideration goes into where/when I take her. She is very excited about any movement or sound when we are out untill she has 5-10min to calm down, then she will tone down to passive(except with other dogs, getting better but I dont stop to find out how long calmness takes). At home she investigates any strange noise on full alert but knows if anyone unexpectedly arrives that she is not allowed to move until I tell her. If not given a few minutes to calm down she would run over and slap them silly with her tail and cover their hands in kisses. I dont walk them together as Bonnie is above Indie in the pack order and I dont want her rubbing off on him. She walks at heel(her choice) aslong as there is no movement/intresting sounds but when there is, she is a nightmare untill we pass it. If its a dog she will be hyped for about 200m-400m until she settles. Indie barely looks at other dogs. Love both of their temperments, could have two more different dogs, wouldnt change them for the world. Forgot that Indie gets intrested in birds but thats the only thing. He is a shocking bird catcher, sorry birdies! Fine with rabbits, just not birds.

Thanks Diva. I understand it now, thankyou. Glad I bumped it, learn something new everyday . Took three attempts to spell check that one sentence, think I need some shut eye, night all. ETA: Diva-Copying your post for future reference to explain to OH, thankyou for putting it in simple terms (way too late at night for the actual standard extracts), Thankyou.

Thanks Tiggy, I think lol Youve made me more confused and not too sure whether I got an answer to the question but maybe I did lol

*bump* You have me curious now jaymatt.I know blue is not breed standard but I never even thought about the blue (supposedly) Aust Ch you see advertised etc. So is it possible that a blue can be awarded in the ring (become an Aust Ch) or are the owners telling porkie pies?

Deffinatly can relate to this. I have resorted to carrying a stick when I walk my dogs but especially when I walk Bonnie. People think its alright to allow their small dogs to harass and attack her as "oh they dont like "staffys"", or " its ok. It will teach my dog a lesson when your dog bites him back.". I mean WTF, my dogs "lesson" will end up with you having one less dog (ie the stick is more for their dogs protection then Bonnies). Bonnie is getting better but her reactiveness to the odd dog has been caused by small dogs going for her. I have previously had small dogs (papillions) and believe it or not I had Tyke muzzled whenever I had to take him to crowded places or when visitors where in our home. He was also on light seditives for a while untill he got older and became safe again. There is no excuse for not controling a small dog just because of its size. Downright irresponsible! Tyke was a fantastic dog untill he was stolen for our yard(around 6mths old) and brutaly beaten by teenages to within an inch of his life. No such thing as beahaviousist where we lived so took such extreme measures to keep him/other people safe untill he was re-socialised. Fantastic with kids under5 and adults 30+ but not with anyone between those ages without carefull introduction.

And the sunshine! They've had nothing but rain since we left apparently Will he have any quarantine to do, or will he get back in with a pet passport? Lol They are living in Texas at the moment, even with the little rain they have had, my mum has had to stand outside in her PJs holding an umbrella for Jet to go toilet at 5am in the morning heaven forbid he gets his toes wet lol. I do belive Jet is not going to be happy with the Scottish weather CC. He will be traveling on the pet passport. I told them in December last year that they should get on to it if they wanted to fly in June, but alas they didn't listen. Think they started the process in March so they will wait and travel around Dec/Jan.
-
CC you have to feel sorry for him though, they are moving back to Ellon,Scotland in January, poor Jet will miss his lilo lol.
-
Ok hands up, who else floats their dogs arond the swimming pool on a lilo? lol My mum just sent me a few pictures of her collie Jet...hmmmm, spoilt much? Bonnie and Indie are looking at me asif to say "How come you dont do that for us mum?". Apparently Jet whines and cries, nudging his lilo until they get it for him. They even took his lilo with them on a 2week beach holiday so Jet didnt have to get his tummy wet at the beach . I think living in America has gone to my mums head! Oh and when they are at grand steak houses, they have to order a big juicy T-Bone to take home to Jet too. lol "T-Bone in a doggy bag please."

I always keep an eye on the pound sites and rescue sites as I used to foster in the UK but just not possible with my tribe of young kids right now. I did notice Indie on the pound site but didnt pay much attention to him. I went in looking for an older dog(mainly the huskies) but didnt think they would manage to fit into my family and cope with my young stafford girl. I said hi to all of the dogs and was about to leave when I spoke to Indie. I really didnt want a pup(5mth) but I instantly bonded with him. Had such beautiful manners for a pup but was skin and bone.He happily let me handle him all over, open/play with his mouth, responded really well to other dogs/cats. My girl was in the car so took her for a meet & greet, they instantly hit it off and acted like long lost friends. That was it! I knew he had to become part of our family. He did have some fear issues with my OH but he has overcome all of them. He is a fantastic dog, even OH says he is the greatest dog and he is damn hard to please in the dog department lol. Hopefully looking at helping Indie to beome a Delta dog in the future, fingers crossed he makes the cut.
