i have started rinsing our dogs with Apple Malt cider, no sign of fleas and don't use any flea treatment.

Yes your dogs will be missing you and you will receive a wonderful reception when you return. We have two JRT's one will just accept the situation and follow us around for the first hour or two that we are home and the other one gets all excited then gives us the cold shoulder for a few hours as punishment for leaving her. Dogs have their own personalities and you won't know until you pick them up how they are going to react.

one of our JRT is a terrible guts, so the vet suggested adding plain boiled long grain rice to his dry food. He has lost weight and doesn't seem as hungry

Boy Caught Tryin To Get In Our Back Yard
Mumsie replied to Atanquin's topic in General Dog Discussion
when I was growing up we had a labrador who would let anyone in the backyard but not out again. Mum came home one day to find two policeman bailed up by the dog - thankfully this is over 40 years ago and the police got in trouble not the dog. -
the first wag of the tail was soooooo precious

Our male JRT howls when the answering machine turns on - often I am running from the clothes line and hear him start howling - I know i am too late to answer the phone
-
Our first JRT is a Parsons - long legged, thin body and small paws - bred to chase foxes, hence the need for speed and slim build to follow foxes through hedges, undergrowth etc. She is mostly white Our second JRT is a "Pudding" - short legged, thick chest and larger more splayed paws - bred for rabbiting, ferreting etc, hence the splayed thicker feet for digging out burrows. Typical markings with spot on base of tail and heart shaped splodge on back both are affectionate, naughty, intelligent and wonderful pets. having a home office they are not often left to their own devices.

My first thought was seafood clams - then was confused by the picture you posted. Bit slow

my older JRT loves a particular meal that I cook - once the pan comes out and I start she will sit and stare at it waiting for her spoonful. If I dare give her her dinner without some on top she will ignore the dog bowl and go stand and stare at the pan. OMG the carry on if the rest of the family accidently eat every last scrape and she doesn't get any! Sometimes if she is being fussy I will throw a handful of frozen peas on top of her dinner and she is satisfied that she has "human food". I don't let her get away with it too often - don't eat, fine the bowl gets put on the bench for the next night (dry food only)

I bought one for one of our JRT's and it hasn't slowed him up at all!

Our dogs sleep in our bedroom, definitely would not feed them Wasabi Peas! they love frozen peas, cucumber, tomato, brocolli, cauliflower, snow peas and carrots

I have trained my female jack russell to pick up a toy and this muffles her barking when she is inside. Everytime she barked I put a toy in her mouth and she soon associated barking with toys. I did not play with her so she did not bark for attention and play. Although we can still hear her bark it is not as loud and annoying. Often the distraction of finding a toy to bark with is enough to distract her from what she is barking at ie the postman, another dog wandering down her street. we started this at about 5 - 6 months and she is now 13 years old

I have two boys (now 24 and nearly 21)both are great kids, well adjusted, good work ethics etc, have two jacks (female 13 & male 6)- I have always treated them all the same - consequences for misbehavious, plenty of praise for good behaviour and repeative training - always kept a routine and when i whistle - everyone including my husbands comes runninng!

Puppy Attacked On Holiday.. Any Advice?
Mumsie replied to Kobi'sDaisy's topic in General Dog Discussion
I am sorry you and your dog had to go through this, sudden dog attacks are very scary. What concerned me was that your dog slipped its lead, possibly consider buying a halter style to prevent escaping from the lead in the future. -
My niece went to her grandparents house once a week, when they took their dog for a walk she would imitate cocking her leg at every telegraph pole - she is now 26 and has two dogs of her own
-
Love it when the dogs are naughty and won't look you in the face. I always know who did the wrong thing by their body language.
-
I would be changing the glazing in the windows - if your dog can break it so can a child. Also if you had pet insurance the vet costs would have been covered, we have pet insurance as part as our household insurance. Nasty scare though
-
If you haven't already I would take photo's of the marks and take them to the kennels and ask them to explain!
-
We don't need heat pads - our water bed keeps them warm

My JRT displayed this behaviour for some unknown reason recently. She would walk a certain distance and then stop, I decided to just pick her up and carry her a short distance. Put her down and she was fine. What ever it was didn't spook her again. No trouble walking past that area anymore

so cute, it is hard to resist patting or talking to "working" dogs. I generally make a comment to the owner if it is appropriate - I like to think this makes them feel included in the ebb and flow of human traffic around them - much like recieving a smile in passing.

Our female JRT still makes up games. The latest being to drop her ball from the second storey balcony on to the pergola roof, watch it roll down and land on the grass. She then runs down the stairs in the house, out through the dog door, picks up the ball and runs back up the stairs to do it all again. so funny to watch

Every year we have someone come and stay with our two JRT's. They are always friends or family so the dogs are happy. Our older dog fretted badly at the kennel and so it is much easier on my consciencous to have them in familiar surrounds.
-
I have a JRT who is a constant chewer/licker, he popped the treats out of the "everlasting treat" in about 5 minutes, chewed it up in 10 minutes then looked for more - no way, too expensive. Now I smear peanut butter inside the Kong and it keeps him satisfied for about 15mins at a time - btw i buy the cheapest peanut butter just for the dogs.

wow the Furminator is brilliant!! I have just tried it out and found that letting that just the weight of the Furminator is enough to not hurt or irritate the dog. Could not believe how much fur it removed with just a few swipes. Thank you for the advice
