When i had 2 dogs I couldn't have them wearing collars, they would honestly chew them off of each other so the only thing that would last is a metal chain which never felt safe about and until the dog is mature with them growing there's always a good chance for a microchip to move. I don't think the council is to blame in the op, some things just didn't make sence and apart from anything i know when we have a new puppy well you buy all the essentials including a new collar and a id tag. Also it sounds like the guy contacted certain places only once and expected them to call him back, Well that's not how everything works people are busy and forget, I know if i was looking for a pet i'd have been ringing up daily to see if my pet had arrived. So given that the dog went missing on public holidays it sounds like he would have had a fair few days to ring around. While i didn't agree at first with the 3 business day policy after the councillor expained it he would be right, most dogs would be located after 2 days if the owner was doing a legitimate search, animal shelters are overfull which is why they can't just keep holding animals in case the owner shows up, most times for the average bottom line family when a pet runs off they really don't care.

Oh my, I hope he does get some cruelty charge, he probably wont though, seriously don't know how he could 'forget' the dogs as well he would have had to put them in when say left home and doubt it was several hr drive to work. If it was a stationwagon well obviously he should have seen them when walking past otherwise who sticks a dog in the boot of a sedan!

My knowledge base has me saying "no" to this vaccination. I think only 1-2 weeks of having her recover from Parvo is too soon to expect her system to be well and truly as strong as it could be and if it were me, there'd be no way I'd be subjecting her body to the stress of yet another 'dose' of parvo, even if in vaccination form. Also, I would expect that your dog, from the exposure she has had to the disease, would have the anti-bodies in her system already and I don't see why she would need vaccinating for something she already carries immunity to. If I were you I would be approaching the idea of vaccination very cautiously. I'm glad your youngster survived, CheekyMonkey. That is no mean feat in itself. That's what i was thinking, that having had it recently it wouldn't be too good to have a vaccination so shortly after apart from anything the vet nurse told my husband that she should be carrying antibodies for it now, so i was wondering what the point would be of vaccinating her right at this time, I really don't want to do anything that could compromise her recovery (hence why i also haven't bathed her even though she smells REALLY bad) We are suprised by the recovery she has made, Once she had the diagnosis i went to mr google and i don't think i really found one story of a young dog surviving, We got told it all depends how early you caught it, If you actually saw her right now apart from her thinness you wouldn't of known she was so sick last week, she keeps hounding me for food and running around with the kids playing, she's at the door now attacking her squeeky chicken.

I was just wanting to ask a quick question, my 6mth stafford is just getting over parvo now the vet left us instructions that in 1-2 weeks of her feeling better she wanted her back in to be vaccinated, do you think that's ok?

I agree if you've tried all other avenue's it would be the nicest thing for him, If he was rehomed other people not be so nice and considerate of him, I've seen and heard about some rather cruel individuals and they might just dump him if it was really a nuisence. I think i would rather try the slight sedation as if your saying the barking collars aren't working on him now then he'd still try to bark afterwards.

I think it's just something that's going to take time, her appitite has definatly increased this morning, I ran out of chicken at her early feed this morning and she kept whining searching for food everywhere earlier so I got out the hills i/d and it got eaten straight away, but i made sure i kept to the small amount not what she wanted. Probably way tmi but Her poo's are on the mend, as because she hadn't eaten anything she hadn't poo'd since really friday so her first poo's were really black with alot of blood but now as she's eating more they are starting to return to a normal colour and type

Poodle fan, She got admitted last Wed, We took her home on the drip friday afternoon, her drip was scheduled to come out sunday night but it blocked up sat night so had to come out, sun we fed her water via a syringe, mon she went back in for another drip to be put on so came home monday afternoon where the vet had managed to get her to have a peice of chicken, when we got her home we got her to eat chicken and drink small amounts but the little terror pulled well should say chewed her drip out that night, I got her to drink a ok amount yesterday and eat small peices of chicken every so often, just this morning she hasn't been so eager to drink or eat but she's been pretty active been wanting to play with the kids so maybe just over did it yesterday

She's just getting over parvo, hence why im worried about her eating and drinking as if she declines any will have to go back on a drip

Will try the chicken and rice and ease off the puppy milk, I rang the vet nurse that delt with her and she said basically only the hills i/d and chicken and that she's a little concerned about her not being overly fussed on food as she said parvo dogs having not eaten in a week would usually be eating your hand off. Kind of worried hubby fed her too much chicken last night and it's made her queasy.

The vet herself the other day was giving her chicken hence why we've been giving it to her and yes it's puppy milk. Can't help but be worried about her and trying to tempt her just really don't want her to end back in hospital again.

Izzy hasn't really taken to the hills i/d and is getting kind of sick of chicken, so was wondering what is concidered a bland diet? I've put her on puppy milk as she's taking more of that then water, do you think that would cause any upsets?

thats what the vet nurse said that if she is interested in chewing and ripping it out well obviously she's feeling much better! Let alone she busted out of her cage which we're still kind of trying to figure out how she did it as somehow she's unhooked the front door from the top of the cage and broke the spring and everything for it and it wasn't like she had heaps of room to move

Well her drips out, she basically knawed/pulled it out during the night then somehow broke one of the sides off her cage, got greated this morning by a happy vocal dog, who's currently havin a sunbake in the morning sun, We had her new kennel come the day she had to go to the vets and she's loving it now though is not quite sure of the flaps over the door

We took Izzy our 6mth stafford back into the vet this morning as she hadn't eaten or drank after having to have her drip taken out sat afternoon so was getting her drip replaced well the vet rang at lunch to say she can see such a improvement in her and got her to eat a peice of chicken but that was about it. Hubby gets her home and decided to get some chicken for her and she's suddenly eating and drinking! We're going slowly but im just so estatic that she's on the mend, I read such horror stories about how many dogs die from parvo and was so fearful that she might not make it, she's doing so much better then expected she's out abit of her quiet mood and wanting pats and doing lots of tail wagging. Though can't wait till she's alot better so can give her a bath, she smells of parvo poo and geez it's not pretty.

Yeah i saw the price it really isn't too bad considering i paid around 33 for a 12kg bag of supercoat

I'll have to drop in there, it's pretty small so don't know if they'd stock it but worth a shot, otherwise saw theres a place 40min away

Ok my dog hasn't eaten in over a week due to her contracting parvo and has lost ALOT of weight, I'm not rushing into feeding her anything as when she starts eating she has to eat hills i/u but that still won't be for a few days, Her drip came out saturday night but she's still not happy eating or drinking so she's back at the vets today getting a new drip put in. But i'm just wanting to be prepared for when she can tollerate normal food again, what's a good diet for gaining weight? She used to be on the dog rolls and supercoat kibble and usually a bone a day, but she's not too much of a kibble fan and wont really touch it, usually only eats it if it's had 'yummy' food poured over the top or when my 2yr old is feeding her, she LOVES roo meat but i don't think that would be too good giving her every day, even though she was getting fed a fair bit of food i think it was the wrong type as basically she was still a bit underweight for her size and is a pooping machine to be honest, I clean up her mess every morning and seriously i think she poo's more then my 2yr and 6mth put together!

South East Qld. Izzy's doing alot better, they ended up releasing her on a drip as we have a cage for her, She hasn't thrown up since we picked her up yesterday and her last poo which wasn't a major one was about 6am this morning, Soon as she hasn't done a poo/throw up for 12hrs we're to try her on a small spoon of hill's i/d, we're to give her a maxalon tablet first then wait a hr then try a small spoonful. If she's able to tollerate food and keep it down the drip comes out tomorrow night otherwise she has to go back in monday so the drip can be put in her other leg.

hmmmm confusing information, i was washing down the area anyway but the vet said basically once she gets over this strain she'll be immune to it as she'll have the antibodies

Going by that could cats possibly then bring it in? Had a problem lately of some cats coming in and eating the dog's food.

can anyone tell me how parvo is spread? as she doesnt go out has no other contact with dogs, my next doors dogs who arent vaccinated apprently are fine (or so they say)

Had to go out this afternoon and forgot to take their phone number with me and they didn't call....... So won't know how she's doing until tomorrow morning and that's if i catch the vet nurse who's watching her
