I am afraid that he holds on too long which is not good for his urinary tract. I thought puppy usually needs to go toilet once in an hour so I want to let him know there is a place in the house where he could go to toilet. That is my intention. Whenever I try to do training and give treats intermittently, he comes over and bite my hand. I don't understand. Am I doing something wrong in training?

Lauren - your baby is so cute. Need to give her more hugs! Magstar - your baby will come soon. Be more patient. BF - hope Zoe will recover soon. Oreo is the same as Zoe. He only reacts if there is something in for him(food or game). MAD - yeah I agree that BC is very smart and they learn their commands fast. But he only reacts when he feels like. Have to teach him to listen all the time. Yesterday Oreo ate some raw beef for the first time and he had a bit of diarrhoea. Guess he likes to eat chicken only.

We actually prefer bigger dogs compared to smaller dogs. We were looking at a couple of dog types and Japanese spitz and Border collies are few of our choices. We chose border collie in the end. I go to uni for few hours then I will be back to check on him so that is not an issue. I just got a panel which I could block off the yard so he could run freely in the backyard and won't be able to escape. I have also give him lots of training but sometimes he doesn't react to me. I just cleaned up my living room so we can play with him in there.

We have also started him in a puppy school run by an accredited delta instructor who have a cerfiticate IV behavioural dog training at our local animal hospital. Our university classes runs for few hours daily(some days more, some less) but my girlfriend and I can adjust our time to come home and check on the puppy. I have been feeding Coprice puppy food, raw chicken mince, raw chicken wings, 4 legs meat ball and cooked chicken pieces as treats. Coprice and 4 legs meat ball is what the breeder used to feed him but I am going to slowly change in to Eukanuba. But as the Coprice doesn't come in small packaging, we bought a 12kg pack so we will change slowly when Coprice is finishing.

Hi guys, I think that when I typed it up yesterday, people may have been misunderstood by my poor English. What I meant was putting an indoor toilet in the house where my puppy can go toilet(not in his play tent). Sorry about the misunderstanding caused. I have read the dogstar daily website before but because he hates the crate a lot when he came, we didn't let him sleep in the crate, but instead, he slept in the play tent. I had managed to crate-trained him by putting lots of treats in the crate and letting him have his meal inside the crate. He quite like the crate now. I bring him to the toilet indoor after he wakes up, play and eat. I tried creating the same surroundings by picking leaves, putting his wee there to lure him there. He had 2 accidents but he wee there once and we gave him so much praise. He is also drinking lots of water so hope that helps his UTI. I still have some issues with playing with him. He keeps biting so we stop play and turn our back on him for 10 seconds before we resume the play. But after we stop play then come back after 10 seconds to play, he still try to bite us. What did we done wrong? He only likes to play things that move, is there any toy recommendation? Thanks in advance.

Crate training is so hard. I achieved nothing. Haha but at least my boy does not soil his play tent(which is good). Lauren - you should listen to my boy. He breath so loudly -.- and he runs in his dreams(I know this because I peeped at him when he sleep and his legs are moving so quickly). He is making so much noise with his legs as he scratches the play tent. BF - it's all right. It's during the day. Haha hope your neighbour doesn't mind! I agree with you BF. Just let the puppy get used to all the sounds. Usually my boy will struggle to be let go when he is being carried but if I bring him for a walk(in my arms), he doesn't move 1 bit. He has such a short attention span. Been trying to teach him stuff and he keeps getting distracted. Last night we learn a lot at the puppy school. But it's so hard to train Oreo. Need more patience and time.

I may get him into agility seeing that he has so much energy to burn. What age do people usually start in agility? He likes to eat chicken a lot so I was thinking of putting chicken into the treat ball. For the kong, I have applied peanut butter but he also doesn't really like it. He is not food oriented but he likes to chase stuff that moves. Is there anything which I can buy that will keep him occupied? The play tent will be his temporary residing place in the house until he learn the house rules. Will let him roam around the place when he learn the rules. I was just wondering if there is any other things which could stimulate him mentally other than training? We will let him have free roam of the backyard when he is older and people can't steal him.

This is a play tent I bought online at crazy sales website. It's texture is just like normal tent and it has mesh all around it that we are able to see through. We can cover the top part. I brought him to the vet last week and the preliminary results says that it is UTI. I collected the urine after he finish his anti biotics and gave it to the vet last night. But she turn it back because we are suppose to take the urine sample 2 days after he finish his medication(which we were not told). We live in a rented unit(not apartment) and the backyard is secured. The yard is not big and all the grass area is now mainly sand. He does his toilet on the sand and I clean up after him each time. He drinks quite a lot of water since the first day he came. My plan is to bring him for proper obedience class after he finish the puppy school. I plan to teach him to play frisbee, is that considered a dog sport? If not, what do you recommend? I give him Kong filled with treats to keep him occupied but he doesn't really play with it. He got a squeaky toy which he likes a lot. He also got a couple more toys to let him chew on but he also don't really play with them. I was thinking of buying a ball that when you roll it, the treats will come out. Will that be good for him?

First thing - the UTI is NOT caused by me. When he came to me, he already have contracted it. I have brought him to the vet to check it and he finished all his medication already. Second - I bring him to the toilet every 2 hours. Third - I play with him and train him. I give him as much physical and mental stimulation as I could. Fourth - I did a research before buying. My intentions were to bring him out for walk in the morning and evening. Training as well. But he still haven't have all his vaccinations so I could not bring him out. But I do carry him in my arms To walk outside. Fifth - I try to fence off area for him to play in and out door. It's not like I am torturing him. Maybe we are not suitable for a working dog breed. Then would you guys advise me to send the puppy back to the breeder then?

I have brought him to the vet already and it's confirmed that he has an UTI. I remove the toilet area from his tent and put it in the kitchen so he could go toilet there but he still doesn't go. I am worried that he would not go to the toilet when I am not home. I am trying to get the puppy to get used to our lifestyle. Please understand my situation as I want the best for my puppy.

The play tent is about 1.4m in diameter. The toilet training drop is an ammonia drop which "lures" the puppy to wee there. Dog door is not possible because I am in a rented place. I think I will restart all my training again. Get him crate trained. I am going down to bunnings to get the compost thing to create a play pen for him and keep the play pen. Will that help?

I am an university student and I have to go school everyday other than weekends. I am afraid that he will not go toilet in the mean time. Is there anything I can do?

Hi guys, I want my puppy to be able to go toilet indoor because when I leave for uni, I don't want him to keep holding till I get home. I have been trying to get my puppy (9wo) to go toilet in the designated area indoor but he keeps holding on till he gets to go outside for toilet. The designated area is a tray I put in his play tent. He sleeps in the play tent. Yesterday night, I collected some of his wee and put it on the area I want him to go to but he still doesn't go. I bought the puppy toilet trainer drops and use but he thinks that there is another dog present and try to rip the newspaper up. Should I find the same type of texture for him to go to? What should I do to make him go? Thanks

BF - dogs are smart animals aren't they? Oreo learns how to escape from the play tent as soon as I open up a bit. He also bites and scratches me so hard that it seems that I had been caned. Lauren - how exciting! More piccys please. Oreo needs like 2 hours of rough play to get him worn out. He is only 9 weeks old. I don't know what he will grow into!! (jaw drops) Nic

How old is your pup? 8 hours is a long time to expect a puppy to hold on, all of mine went in the middle of the night and occasionally twice a night for a month or so once they were home. Even now at nearly 3 one of mine still goes to the loo in the middle of the night. What does the bolded part of your post mean? Why would he smell bloody? do you mean he had anti biotics for the UTI? He is 9 weeks old. I have lay down a toilet for him in the play tent but he doesn't want to go. He doesn't make any sound at night which is why we thought he doesn't need to go to the toilet. He holds on till the next morning(6am) when I bring him out. Seems like it's not good for him. Tonight I will bring him out for toilet. His UTI causes blood in his wee so he smell "bloody". Nic

Hi guys, my BC puppy doesn't like to go toilet in his play tent and he would hold on till we bring him out. I am worried because when he came to us last week, he had an urinary tract infection. He would hold from 10+pm till I bring him out in the morning at about 6am. Is that all right? He doesn't smell bloody after eating some anti biotics.

I just got a BC puppy and I have enrolled him in puppy school. As he is going to grow up to be large, I think it is worth to socialize more with other breeds and used to people handling him. I already had neighbour and friends come and pat him. I think puppy school will be more than helpful because basic obedience and manners is important when we bring our dog out in future. At least that is what i think. Nic

Hi poppyx - BC are just so active aren't they? They just don't know how to stop. Haha even when Oreo is sleeping, he is still running. Crazy little guy. I need him to grow up quicker so we can go jogging and burn some energy of his. BF - he just chew up everything as well. Oreo likes to play tug a lot. Bt after playing his toys for abit, he begins going for my hand. Then I have to put him into his tent and let him settle down.

Hi BF - Oreo doesn't like the dry food that the breeder is feeding on as well but there is only a 12kg pack so he have to finish it before changing to another brand. He will finish either his chicken mince or meat balls before eating the dry food. Woah Zoe is improving fast. She will be quiet in no time. I just trained Oreo to "sit", "stay" and "come" but does not work 100%. He has only been home for 6 days so I am very impressed. He responds well whenever there is cooked chicken. It must be his favourite treats I guess. He is going to puppy preschool on Wednesday for the first time. Hope it is enjoyable for him. Nic

Diesel is so cute. Hope your wait is worth it! What sort of temperament does he have? Wow Georgia is so beautiful. You must be really happy to meet her. 2 weeks will past by very quickly. Haha your moment will come soon. We taught Oreo to "sit" and "come". Everytime he sees us with treats, he will just go into the sit position. So funny. But he doesn't respond everytime. Have to slowly work on it. Nic

BF - Zoe is so cute. Haha she is 1 funny girl. MAD - BC grows quick yeah? Hope my boy grows up to be lovely as well. Oreo don't like to sleep near us, he likes sleep near the wall because it's cooler. I reckon he is afraid of heat. My hands are full of bruises from Oreo's constant scratching and biting. He gets excited very quickly so need to train him not to bite when excited.

Bf - although I am a biologist(3rd year env. Sci. Student), I am very bad with plants. Lol I deal mainly with invertebrates. I will try to look it up. Thanks for the offer. Nic

The vet says that it is most likely to be urinary tract infection. The vet gave me some anti biotics for the puppy to eat and observe his wee. The vet say to collect an urine sample after he finish his medication. Hope he is all right by next week. His urine is red but not as red as your bitch's but the vet says there are quite a lot of blood in his wee. Nic

I was just wondering if we feed wings, we have to take away the skin right?
