Thanks for all the replies and it has been helpful to help me decide. There is one my main reason why I would prefer using an agent rather than doing it myself. If I miss any documents out, it will be disastrous (either my dog gets destroyed or gets sent back to Australia). I would rather my dog have 0% chance of experiencing that. The quote I was given includes "complementary collection (Metropolitan areas) final health inspection and treatments (within 24 hours prior to departure), health certification, Export and Health permits, travel container (IATA std), Airline Export Documents, airfares and associated airline charges through to Macau." I called Dog Tainers and they told me that they will collect my dog on Sunday in Melbourne and he will arrive on Monday in Macau. That sounds reasonable to me but I'm just worried about how he will be treated and the conditions he will be in (Manila). I have never been to Manila so that is my main concern. Nic

Thanks for the replies. I will be bringing him there permanently and I have been quoted by Dog Tainers for $2500. Dog tainers will transport him by going through Manila then to Macau. But my girlfriend is a bit worried about my dog going to Manila (as both of us haven't been there before). The price is not too much of an issue for us. We are more concern about his wellbeing when travelling. Anyone has experience with Dog Tainers which they could share? Jetpets only transport him to Hong Kong though.

Hi everyone, I would like to bring my Border Collie with me to Macau (next to Hong Kong). There is no direct flight from Melbourne to Macau. I was just wondering which pet transport service is more reliable? Thanks!

Hi guys, I am looking to get my 8 months old Border Collie puppy into proper obedience class. He had been to puppy preschool when he was younger and it has been really helpful. He knows the basics (eg sit & down) but need to get some more training. Is there any good Dog Obedience Class Recommendation (near glen waverley, victoria)? Thanks

I need: 1. Sheltie 2. Siberian husky 3. Golden Retriever 4. Lots of money to give my girlfriend a good life. Give me any one of those dogs, I would be very happy! I will wait till Oreo grows up before getting one of those dogs. I think Oreo will love a friend.

My puppy thinks that squirting water at him is a game. So i never used that. My puppy also bites my ankle when i walk away but once i stand still, he stopped. After a while, he got that mouthing = no play.

Have you guys tried to stop playing with your puppy when they mouth you? Stand up and walk away when the puppy's mouth touches you. It takes a while but they will get it My puppy learns that if his teeth touch my hand, the game end so he learnt not to mouth me. He will turn his head away from my hand if my hand is close. Hope that helps.

I pick up my boy at the Domestic air express. Don't go all the way in or you will arrive at the Internationals air express. Seeing you are from VIC, just turn left before you reach the airport. The right side is for humans. You should see a McDonald there and its very close to the air express. You just go in and tell them your dog's name. They will then ask for your signature. Just a piece of advice. Just bring some water to let your puppy have a drink. Here is Oreo!

Sorry to hijack your thread. I was just wondering what difference are there between Aussie Shepperd and Border Collie?

Same situation when we got our pup. I don't feel his love at all. At 1 point of time, i even considered sending him back to the breeder. And I also can understand that you probably feel tired but after a while it will be all worth it. I can totally feel my puppy's love for me now. He will jump up on the sofa and give me a lick and then run off to play his own toy. All you need is PATIENCE and LOVE. Also, try to think in your puppy's shoes and it will make things clear because dogs are simple animal(they don't hide anything).

Hi, my puppy have the same problem of Turbo puppy. Anyone have a solution of that? I get my BC puppy to sit for the door to open and let my guests in. Then I tell them to ignore him until he settle down. He will then sit and wait for them to give him some cuddles. Usually, during the cuddles part, he will get very excited and start jumping and nipping.

Does it? I've successfully trained plenty of older dogs with Drive Training techniques, some to quite a high degree of competitive obedience. I personally think the trick is to find the thing that switches your dog on. Whether that's a toy or food, and in one case I had a dog that just went crazy with purely verbal praise. He was a dynamite obedience dog...pita to live with with! But we loved him anyway. As to dogs that appear to have no interest in anything, you can work on that. Dory wasn't too interested in toys when I first got her if you tried to wind her up she'd look at you like you were a nut. These days it doesn't take her much to kick into drive with a toy and do some nice heeling. (Short lived as it is...I've gotten waaaaaaay slack and have lowered my standard quite a bit these days). It just took a bit of patience, lots of praise and training her to let her know she could go crackers over a toy not just rough games. She has learned to LOVE tug. Where can I find more information on drive training? My puppy seems to be very play motivated so maybe I could use that to my advantage in training.

Give your dog an alternative chewing toy/food? I give my puppy lots of toys to play with and chew. He is teething but only destroyed his toys and some zips so far. I found that if you give it a raw meaty bone, it is tasty when it chew the bone. So it's reinforcing your dog when it chew on the bone. Maybe a kong with things stuff in it will help too.

I heard from somewhere that dogs learn it from other dogs. Like when we bring our dogs out, our dogs see other dogs cocking their leg to pee. Maybe they learn it that way. Just a suggestion though. I have no prove.

They look like Border Collies.

Puppies like to chase things that move so that is normal. Just stand there and don't move when they bite your shoes and ankles. Move only when they stop biting you. Keep repeating and after a few days, he will learn not to bite your ankles and shoes. Oreo took a few days.

What Can You Expect To Pay For A Saint Bernard
nicolatu replied to frenchiegirl's topic in General Dog Discussion
I wouldn't of thought you'd get any breed papered for $800 well maybe a stb There are a few breeds that are cheaper than $800, Tenterfields go for $550 - $600 and I've seen other breeds for about that too. Its sad that breeders struggle to get a decent price yet a cocker pooper or doodle dooper fetches in excess of $1000, when I work out the formula that makes people want to part with their hard earned cash in a gamble on a puppy I shall share the formula but I think its TMM and IB + STY equates to TMM Too Much Money and IB Impulse Buy = STY Stupidity! Nice 1! -
Sorry for hijacking tread. My puppy is not interested in food at all when we are walking outside (its already his favourite food which is cooked chicken meat). What can I use to reinforce him for doing well or distract him?

Feed your puppy premium food like Eukanuba, Eagle Pack, Science Diet etc. I changed my puppy dry food from Coprice to Eukanuba and I am very happy as he has lesser poo and his coat looks shinier. You also doesn't need to provide your puppy with supplements if you are feeding premium food. Maybe 3 times a week, give him chicken wings or chicken necks to let him chew and clean his teeth. Maybe your puppy doesn't like the taste of the dry kibble you are giving him? For example, my puppy loves chicken so he loves Eukanuba because one of the main ingredient is chicken.

To your question: Hold a treat in palm of your hand and close it tightly. Let your puppy smell it. He will try to scratch, lick etc. to try and get the treat out. Once he stop, Say "yes" or "good boy" whatever you use and give him a treat from the OTHER HAND. He will learn over time that he is getting a treat for not jumping up and grabbing the treat. My puppy sits calmly after 1 session (5 minutes) and looking at me rather than the treat. You usually have to go puppy pre-school before going to junior manners. I think puppy pre-school is for socialisation with other puppies in a controlled environment.

Thanks for the replies. I have been opening up his mouth everyday to look at his teeth. He hates me when I touch his mouth now
-
Thanks for that! I am just worried about him. I am still thinking whether to desex him before 6 months or not. There is a BC breeder who told me to desex him later if he is not a brat. Male BC needs their male hormones to help grow better.

Oreo is 18 weeks old and he learnt about 20 commands already. I haven't got time to teach him new tricks these days due to exam coming! As we are having holiday before exam and we sleep in, he doesn't make ANY noie after he wake up! He just sits in his crate quietly and wait for me to let him out. He also doesn't make much noise throughout the day except when he sees something weird. He is also walking on my left nicely now but he still pulls occasionally when he sees something exciting. Do you guys know the treat dispensing ball which when rolled about, treats will drop out? I bought the one with adjustable opening. Oreo figured out how to make the opening bigger!! He is just so smart!
