Bilaterally Disloating Hip/ Luxating Hips?
Didles replied to Didles's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I know this thread is way back but would like to update, Our boy had the surgery and he is totally different dog!!!!! He is running about and crazy, we noticed the change straight away he was just so full of life. Now he is a very spoilt boy and very loved. I am glad I made the decisions I did just wanted to update thats all http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=1504...mp;l=c20b031276 Here is a link of some pictures of our boy. -
Our puppy issues with his hips but we found it straight away and he had his hips fused at 16weeks. Listen to people when they say go to vet that knows the breed, our specialist owns pugs (ours is a british bulldog) and has had a lot of experience with our breed. Good luck

BIG massive hugs, oh that is terrible, just to add my Winston was off his food a bit after his trip (bris/Syd) so you may be right she will just huge cuddles when she gets home.

Okay so like t says, we were doing so well but the last couple of days it has gone backwards, peeing everywhere inside, as well as poos. Then the last two nights pooed all through his crate at night, last night he woke at 3 and it was everywhere!!!!! so I cleaned it up and he went back to sleep. Nothing in our routine has changed only thing is the vet told me to cut out his lunch, due to his hips and puting weight on too quick and changing his breakfast from his eggs to biscuits. Before these changes his poos were fine, firm now they are a huge sloppy mess. Any help would be great, please?

Bilaterally Disloating Hip/ Luxating Hips?
Didles replied to Didles's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
okay with the money thing that was more, the purchase price plus surgeries. Yes we have stairs but hubby is on to it building a ramp for him and we are toilet training him to this middle level. It is a huge adjustment that we have made for him and it was too tough to send him back, our kids are attached and we feel with some changes we could give him a chance. I have taken on all advice, got carpet and everything that has been suggested to me. It hurts that everyone keeps saying give him up, did we rush into another pup yes and no, we did not know he was available and it just happened he was. So now we have made adjustments physically in the house and financially, we want to give him the best chance possible. Hope people can understand, for personal reasons my kids have gone to hell and back over the past couple of years and to take this puppy away from them would be too much, I would just like advice to help him, but too date he seems fine running about on the grass, playing and wagging his tail, I would just like to continue that for him. -
Favorite game??? Ha, he plays for about 15 mins then sleeps for 3 hours! He does like a ball my mum got that makes a noise he goes crazy at it, he also just like rolling around and playing but he does tend to get rough.

Toliet training pfft, puddles everywhere, although he did this morning for miss 12 and at my parents, we will get there, only positive is that the carpet is black and I will get it cleaned when we are done. So glad everyones babies are well.

Problem is that at the moment the x-rays will be clear as they pop in and out so the position may be prefect for it to be in the right spot. The breeder said it was up to us and if we sent him back she would understand, but decided not too I am following things keeping an eye on his weight and little exercise, I understand what you are saying but you would understand that we can't everyone has connected with him including my kids and it is a whatever it takes dog. -
Bilaterally Disloating Hip/ Luxating Hips?

HE said that the best option is were the cut the pubic bone/hip area and turn so the joint sits in it a bit better, no pet insurance but money i not an issue, no the vet recommended a specialist to look at him, and do it. There is an issue as I felt his hip pop in and out easily Winston didn't bother he just layed there and took it. Breeder has not/can not recommended anyone they live interstate, thats why I thought I would ask here. -

Okay will say that the breeder is fantastic and supportive, she has offered us a full refund and would like to be kept in the loop with what is happening, could not have found a more caring or responsible person. No, the vet is not recommended by the breeder but if anyone can add thoughts on any on the Central Coast Area please do. He has been our family vet since we moved here and has a great reputation. The floors well he prefers the tiles and not had any problems with slipping, his main issue is getting up, tiles or carpet but I will get the scraps out and put them down as I see your point. Thanks for the compliments he thinks he is all that too, trust me. -
Hi all OKay so we have finally got our baby home and we went off to the vet from a general check and to say "hi" then we walk out with this news. " Bilaterally dislocating/ luxating hips- has a high predictive index of developing hip dyplasia" and "left front foot laterally deviated carpi" So we are going to a specialist ortho vet but what I would like to know is; *Anyone reccomend a good ortho vet in the Central Coast/Sydney/Newscastle areas, *Any other measure we can do at home to help. He is a Bristish Bulldog and fairly lazy has a bit of a run on the grass, but with the sad faces all the time you wonder about pain. To be honest he is quite content at sitting at my feet whilst I type this or sitting with the kids watching TV (too funny as we were at my mums yesterday and all 3 of my boys were glue to foxtel) I am at the vet again tomorrow but would love some other opinions or suggestions to ask the vet. Thanks all here he is,

I think these pups go so well with toilet training the bang they don't want to anymore, Winston has a thing for peeing in the door way of our media room. We aren't taking him outside just yet we decided to paper train him on the balcony as if he has surgery there is no stairs just one little one and I can make a little ramp for him. I am off out soon to try and find and small rectangle container to put grass in so he can go on that, worth a shot, we looked at the pet loo's but they are expensive so I think this may work the same. At the minute he is sound asleep snoring at my feet he is so quiet compared to my brothers lab pup, so lazy! Glad everyone else is going well, I am of now to post and ask about advice for my babys hips. Oh and piccys please, I will post some this afternoon. promise.

Ruby is a stunner, We found out that something was up because we took him to our vet, thought it would be good to touch base asap and so he got to know that it isn't all bad, but we got the news then. He does walk a bit funny, so at the moment we are just being careful he is not allowed up or down our stairs. We have found him great with kids got a piccy of him and my youngest son, not great but still cute.
-
Oh thanks guys, agility no chance this one is very lazy has a play for 10 mins then sleeps okay as promised piccy time
-
His name is Winston, we are looking at one to begin with which will adjust where his hips sit, and then go from there, may end up two hip replacements. We are going to keep on top of his diet and work with alternate therapies as well, I am back to the vet this week to get a referral to a specialist.
-
We are keeping him, too tough to send him back, we have been offered a full refund which we will use for the first operation. It was funny took a vote and everyone said the same. So thats, that really. Will be a bumping ride but he is so loveable so well I go on the other computer I will post some pics, which may be later this afternoon. The breeder has been fantastic and would recommend her to anyone she cares a lot for her babies and it is nothing but the best. So now we can concentrate on toilet training he is going on newspaper and goes outside when we put him down, had a couple of accidents but not many, hubby says he is a chick magnet and an old lady magnet (men?) but he is all tuckered out as we just went out to drop my daughter off at a friends and to petbarn for his biscuits (didn't want to get them last night under the circumstances) my kids have not watch tv all day as they just a watch and play with him, but we have shooed them off now as it is his nap time.
-
Just spoken with our breeder, she gave us some great options to think about all positive, have to talk to the family, she has been great really great. Poppy not long then, will be thinking of you. On the plus side he had a great night slept though from bout 11 til 6 this morning not a peep.
-
Hope it all goes well, for you today. We have decided and thought that it would be best for him to go back, it is a hard choice but and I feel awful but there other things like we 2 flights of stairs in our house and one of those is to the backyard, when he is bigger and having issues I couldn't carry him there and back. Then there is the operations that might not work, so then there is another and same again. I feel cruel and heartless it is upsetting. But I dont know what else to do about it, I am really feeling like we aren't meant to have a dog.

My vet said it is not something that they can pick up at the 6 week check as they aren't moving about much then. Not to my knowledge about the insurance will look into it. They have been great, the breeders, rang me straight back and understand it is a hard call for us, we keep changing ours minds.
-
he has bilaterally dislocating hips which has a high predictive index of developing hip dysplasia. This is something that we are talking about I am also going to get a second opinion tomorrow. I had not organised insurance because I did not know some details and now it will be too late. the breeder has been great and they are upset too, the ball is in our court to decide, but at the end of the day he cost a lot of money then to have these huge bills in the near future well I don't think we could afford it
-
Just a quick pop in, pick up went well been to the vet got a couple of issues, wont be around much over the weekend pretty upset. When things are better I will pop back in, this is nothing to do with where we got him they have been great they are also gutted. It has just been something that happens and we are now taking the weekend to decide if he stays or goes back, at this stage he will most likely go back as we can't afford to put up the thousands of dollars to get things sorted.

I am heading off about 10:30ish, got to vaccum and mop the floors and pick up all the kids stuff, because we did not tell them I couldn't ask them to do it so I have P!NK on loud singing, checking here and trying to clean up, it isn't too bad but I would like it done. Can't wait will post pics asap!

Just to Clarify as it was me and the pup, the breeder contacted me on the Friday and said it was unwell and not to come down, after little contact from them (that being one phone that Friday night and me ringing on both Sat and Sun) we had doubts, upon finding out the pup "had to be under vet care for 3 days before clearing it" I contacted my vet who advised to speak to the treating vet and if he wouldn't they would contact on my behalf. I did and after that phone call I felt that I could not go through with the purchase of the puppy. At the time of contact them about the vet details I was offered a refund of my deposit (of which I have a receipt) but to date I have receive nothing, other than an email blackmailing me to remove threads containing the details and if I did that I would get my deposit back. I have been very careful in not naming names in any thread and it is not my fault that sometimes reputation proceeds people. Is it my fault that others have worked things out?, I think not. If the other parties involved in this issue is most likely reading this I wish to invite you to come here and defend yourself instead of sticking your heads in the sands, explain to us why you exposed these pups to the virus by letting and friend bring there pups around, explain to us why you will not do the right thing and pay for the entire vet bill of another infected dogs that came from your Kennels, but thats right truth does nothing and bulls**t sells magazines. (did I quote you right?) All in all this is a terrible situation and unfortunately other breeders have been up to the same game. This does nothing for the honest, caring breeders of these breeds, nothing but make people question them more, end of the day this was bought on by yourselves as no one else twisted your arm to have these events as the outcome. I say step up and do the right thing, if you do I will tell the world I got my money back.
