We Have Started Bike Riding With Our Dogs
Enigma01au replied to lanabanana's topic in General Dog Discussion
Not to be a party-pooper , but I think in some states it's illegal to ride a bike with a dog on a lead...I think this has been discussed on the forum before..... I know it is against the law in WA, but I don't know in SA..... ETA: It is illegal in SA.."LEADING AN ANIMAL You must not lead (on a leash or any other leading device) an animal from a vehicle, including a bicycle." -
My Lab pup is 7 months and has only now just stopped mouthing us! It was especially bad while he was teething so we gave him LOTS of chew friendly toys / bones/pig ears etc.... We were beginning to think we'd done something wrong, but now I know it was just him being a Lab puppy. I can now wear my favourite clothes without fear of holes being added

Just another thing to be aware off....be careful buying cheap kids plush toys for dogs. They use a chemical fire retardant on them, which are also posionous to pets. Always check the labels first before buying.....if their labels are still readable that is

Our Lab puppy is 5 months old and can sleep for 10hours, but only if we shut the curtains to create an artifical darkness. If he sees the sunrise, then he cries to be let out of the crate. We are lucky enough to have a puppy/garden proof enclosed area out the back so we can put him straight outside, give him some breakfast, and we go back to bed until a reasonable hour

Big Calming / Healing Vibes from me Kirty.... My puppy is currently in time out after counter surfing and knocking a glass of egg-wash off the counter onto the floor....my situation seems miniscule compared to yours, but I know how angry I felt (even if it was my fault...I should've known better and it's my responsibity..he is still just a puppy)! Feel free to vent as much as you need. It will keep you sane long enough for you to step back from the situation and calm down / gain perspective before doing anything rash.

My Labrador puppy was exactly the same! I actually thought my Lab puupy was broken He didn't seem to care about his morning biscuits, unless I added a raw egg or some yoghurt to the mix, but once he hit about 16 weeks old, he started scoffing all the food I put in his bowl. Now he is a "proper Lab" and everything is gone from his bowl before I even have time to go back into the kitchen.

Does Your Oh Allow Your Dog/s To Sleep On The Bed?
Enigma01au replied to Abigail's topic in General Dog Discussion
Our dogs are allowed on the sofa, if they ask first, but not on the bed. We were taught not to let them up cause then the dogs perceive themselves higher in the pack ranking.... -
We had a pup that also had horrible smelly runny poos . The food hadn't changed, but the water she drank turned out to be the culprit! We gave her spring water for a couple of days and slowly added our town water to the mix until she was drinking our town water completely! Now if we go away for the weekend we take a couple of bottles of our home water...it makes all the difference!

I live in the Barossa of South Australia...we have some of the best vineyards in the world here. Our 5 acre property is surounded by old Shiraz and Riesling grapes. We own an Australian Cattle Dog and are awaiting the arrival of our new Labrador puppy in 3 weeks. Our ACD has no problems with the grapes. She likes to lie in the shade of the vines on a hot summers day. The chooks however will eat all the grapes when given half a chance We'd love to grow Pinot grapes...my favourite wine , but it's not quite the right climate...

Does your mother allow the dog to pee in her house!? :D Maybe she'd behave differently to her daughter if the wee was in her house! Crikey...I wouldn't be allowing your sister into your house......she obviously has no respect for your feelings, so you shouldn't feel guilty about refusing her and her dogs permission into your house!!!!

Next Door Neighbours Kids Throwing Knives
Enigma01au replied to Snout Girl's topic in General Dog Discussion
I think you need to deal with this quickly. Whilst it's important to keep on the good side of your neighbours, it's more important that you protect yourselves and your dog! I would most definately be having another talk with the mother, and as said before, also point out that the knife throwing could end up in her child being injured..not just your dog. If this was me, I'd be talking to the police/council just so it's on record it if happens again! :D It's always a worry when a parent won't discipline their child, or give excuses "they don't listen to me", I just cringe... -
I've been watching for the last couple of weeks, a beautifully filmed program, and Cadbury is a georgeous chocolate lab. If my lab turns out to be like him I'll be very proud :D

I personally think the fines are just right! The reason they are high is to act as a deterant to dog owners so they make more of an effort to stop their dogs roaming the street. Without laying blame at anyone, I'm sure you'll be making changes to make sure the dogs don't "go walkies" again! Therefore, the fines system works! It doesn't matter how the dogs got out, the fact is they WERE out..... JMHO.....

Adult Canine Teeth Coming Out But Puppy Teeth Still There
Enigma01au replied to happie's topic in Puppy Chat
It's not unusual to have both sets of teeth in the gums at the same time. My dogs teeth did the same thing. The adult teeth should eventually push the baby teeth out but if you are concerned, your vet will be the best person to give you specialist advice. -
With Sammy, we'd watch her and when she started to do the sniffing around business, we'd stand by the back door, call her name and say "Sammy want to go Toilet?" then take her straight outside to do her toileting thing. We'd only say the toilet word when we were 90% certain that she did want to go to the toilet, and not just outside to play. We can just call out from any room in the house and if she needs to go, she'll go to the back door and wait to be let out. So now if she needs to go, she'll stand by the back door. You can take it furthur with clicker training, and train them to ring a bell at the back door, but this requires for the dog to be toilet trained first. I hope this helps

Our dog Sammy doesn't like to go in the rain. She'll hold on all day if she has to, or wait for a break in the rain, and then go just off the patio. We found that if we put her on the lead, took her out into the rain and walked around the yard for a while, the walking action got the bladder (and bowels) working and then she got the urge which she couldn't ignore and she'd go!
