Awwwww...Lab puppies are the most georgeous puppies in the world...but as a dual Lab owner, I might admit to being a little biased!

Some Good And Bad News...depending On How You See It
Enigma01au replied to aussielover's topic in General Dog Discussion
I don't know whether to congratulate you or not I'm sad for the Guide Dog people..but I'm very happy you get to keep such a beautiful puppy -
I would also suggest a crate instead of a tethering point. We had a puppy taken by Dingo's many years ago when I was a child, cause it was tied up. It happened in SECONDS, literally the blink of an eye, the dingo pack must've been watching for a day or 2 before making the attack. The ranger told us it had happened many times, wish he'd told us when we spoke to him when we first arrived .

My labs get it too. My 6 month old boy gets it quite often as his bottom eyelids droop alot, and this causes minor irritation to the eye. As he gets older, and grows into his eyes, it'll reduce. My older boy has now grown out of it. The vet said it was a normal thing for dogs with droopy eyes, especially after sleep, and that it'll disappear eventally.

We'll we got Baby Puppy of Breed....by default Yay..our very first ribbon!!!! I was soooooo nervous, but I told the steward and the judge and they were VERY forgiving! I didn't fall over, my puppy didn't poop in the ring, so I think I can say we survived unscathed I could hear people on the sideline giggling at us, which I didn't mind, much better to have people laughing at you than yelling at you. Now we have a couple of weeks of show training before the next show. I'm sure that'll be scary too, but at least I'm not a Show Ring virgin anymore Hi Lindsay, I think the next show is the Ladies Kennel Club Show, in March. I'm glad to have a month to get some more training under our belt's before the next show...we REALLY do need it..... -
Hitting The Ring For The First Time
Enigma01au replied to angelsophie's topic in General Dog Discussion
Off to our first show tonight at Gawler. I've been down early and setup the Gazebo so that I won't be stressed about that. I was setting up while a lovely person was setting up next to me, she shows Staffies. I explained to her that it was my first show tonight, and that if she could see me making any monumental etiquette gaffs, to please let me know . So, at least I'll know the "next door neighbour"....... -
I bought my Chocolate boy from Raymond Attard at Lacote Labradors in Sydney, visit the website for more info at www.lacote.com.au He specialises in imported dogs from Canada / America, and they are truely spectacular quality dogs...but maybe I'm a little biased I've found Raymond to be very helpful, and would recommend his dogs anyday!

I am doing the Karbeethan show in late January.....and I pray that the temperature isn't anything like it's going to be today....43°C However, it is a good temperature to have a nice icey cold glass of Champers to help celebrate others wins in the ring Cheers and Happy New Year!

Thanks for the luck....I'll need it Yes, I have a mentor who is worth his weight in gold..... He doesn't complain when I ask him endless Newbie questions, but I don't want to push the friendship, hence coming here to ask questions! I have been to a few shows in Adelaide, and on the whole I've found the Group 3 people to be very nice. Normally I attend the shows that my "Guru / Mentor" goes to, and he normally has everything set up by the time I get there, so all I have to do is bring myself, a thermos of good coffee, Oh and the puppy! But there will be times coming up where they don't attend, or I'll be there first, and I'll have to do the setup.

Illegal For Dogs To Wee On Nature Strip Now?
Enigma01au replied to ChocoLabs Dad's topic in General Dog Discussion
I don't let my Labs wee on other peoples nature strips...I think it's rude to let your dog do it's business, No#1's or 2's on or near someone elses property, especially if the neighbour is maintaining the strip! I always make sure I carry some water incase there is a "No#1 accident" so I can at least water the spot down. -
I am in SA, and my first show is at Gawler - Karbeethan Reserve, 22nd January. It is a night show. I will try to get in early, at the 2pm opening if possible. I will be with the Gundogs - Labradors... And then I am hoping to go to the Heathfield show, I'll take your advice and get in early there too!

Thanks for the replies.. :D At least now I won't make obvious mistakes...... the rest I'll learn as I go along. And I promise not to get drunk and laugh too loud at my own jokes...well, not until after the show is completed

I have my first show coming up in January, and I have bought my Gazebo (and learnt how it put it up by myself ), but now I'm wondering if there are rules about how/where to set up your Gazebo. How do you know where you're allowed to set up if your first on ground? Do you set up your Gazebo for night shows? How close to others can you setup without annoying your neighbours? I really don't want to cause trouble at my first show, and be known as "that inconsiderate person", just because I didn't understand the rules :D

+2 to Labsrule.... I don't give a sh*t if the other dogs are "just being bullies", it doesn't matter whether there are injuries or not...this constitutes an attack! and it is not acceptable EVER!!!
