Erny I would only recommend a good ethical breeder. You might not be aware but hip and elbow displ is not an issue, but a big thing to check the angulation and flexibilty of the trunk -

You need to desetitise your elephant to mice Remember mice need to be neutral, not agressive nor playfull Only if they are pink. :D :D Erny, Im good friends with a breeder of pink elephants , Ill let you know if there are any upcoming matings. They also breed miniture ones, from time to time I needed a good laugh to start my day, thanks guys -

I guess that also unknowingly I asked for something to do before he could chase the ball. Becouse I was worried that Id hit him on the face with the ball as I was swinging it, I always asked for a sit or a drop before I threw the toy... so we had a reward for compliance without thinking of it -

Kavik - Reading your reply in the other subject about Diesel and luckof prey drive in various situations I think you a next step for you is to have him working solid in the front yard, if he mastered the backyard. I really dont know how this has happend for Rex becouse I have not used the tie out part, but becouse he'd always chase a ball, get there, often not pick it up and certainly never bring it back, to excercise him I used to throw the toy to my OH and back and Rex would chase it. If we dropped it and he managed to get it we would laugh, and try to be quicker and not let him have it etc. And one day he just clicked - it was like "holly sh*t that toy is great, I want I want I want, gimme gimme gimme, Ill do anything just gimme" I have never during that process have given him any treats, never corrected him for anything, never said No etc. If he managed to get the toy and run away with it - good luck Rexy, we would just leave the area so hed follow us. How correct or incorrect that is - thats another story, Im just sharing my own experiences. -
K9 I've resend, let me know if you got it, or has it gone to spam again? lol
-
I have in my emial that I have send already suggested July/August. I will resend, they must be going somewhere into a unknown cyber space that noone ever explores On a second thought - K9 check your spam folder I bet that this is where my emails reside

Cool, I was just wondering. Hey K9 do you want more work? Send you an email re info night/workshop. Ill just take a ticket and wait my turn for you to reply.

Scope - I absolutly admire your dedication to his training, I do however read that Huds has some issues, I think there is a long way between now and him not only ignoring his souroundings but being a protection dog. I cant stop thinking to ask K9 if its not too late. Especially after discussions in the Socialisation thread.

LL - I know now what you are talking about, dont mind seeing photos of course. My dog doesnt like to swim, but he certainly likes the goose that resides in the middle of the pond on the golf course He will just run himself stupid from one side to another trying to get to it, but will not go in thankfully K9 - so they just fall in love? No wonder he looks at me like that -
ball on a string, a soft toy on a string the ball will be a faster moving object than your hand therefore more interesting to the dog. (well so I think) Regardles of the above couple of days ago I swang the toy somehow close to the elbow, the dog wanted to grab it and got my arm... not intentionally....... it certainly hurts...

LL can you explain how do they cheat in water please -
one of K9s first things to learn is that there is a rule in training time before distance before distractions so untill you have the time and distance forget going to the clubs, as everything there is too much of a distraction

For smokers out there - Maybe capturing the prey item is like a cigarete after good sex? Maybe its like when the other person says YES to what you want the to do Being an athelete many years ago for me there was no better feeling than crossing the finish line before my bigest competitor (that happened to be my best friend) crossed it. What do you think LL? Any of those descriptions fit your theory? -

On a personal nte - Im removing suburban streets, this is where I have majority of problems, majority of uncontrolable dogs. The leash free park I attend is a huge open area, I can see for "miles" and walk far away enough not to get in any close distance to anyone else. Plus Id never go there in peak times as is. Gotta love the golf course what a shame they dont like me there -

not that I doubt what you say in any way, but is there a chance that he became more interesed in the kong after she had it? I dont think he is possesive/obsessed about it it enough. of course it does , I said it many times before and given several examples, clips and "i love it" comments, did you miss those? :D once a week for 45 minutes is too much? Considering he doesnt actually play with them? ....OK.... he can dig all he likes, as long as he pays attention to me outside the yard. Hmm when I think of it he stopped destroying fluffy toys in the house, so something for something. if they were ring tail possums it would have been.... in fact I told him he is a good boy after he got each one of them -

you have asked if I have seen your dogs around other dogs, I replied. whats the solution? By the looks of it Im not moving out of suburbia any time soon. From what I understand she has been an instructor for years, she is open minded and always expending her knowledge. I will encourage her to potentially change some methods in our club, how sucessfull will I be? Who knows........ -

Im resurecting this thread as in the Socialisation and Neutralisation one Kavik and I started talkig about prey drive work, control, out of control etc. So to keep the subjects seperate.... I took Rex out last night to a new location, on my way there I met a lady with a dobie female so naturally we walked together. Rex ad Maya have not seen each other for months. I had Rexs kong and all the way there Maya was trying to get it out of my hand so I had a 1km long tu of war with a dobe We got to a little reserve, Maya on long lead as she has no recall wahtsoever, Rex off lead. I let him sniff and run around for a while and than produced the kong. I started playing a bit with him and Maya wanted to join in, but was restricted by the lead. Rex got himself into the "im obsessed" mode and I had him in a down stay looking at me with Maya jumping on him, across him, inviting him to play and being really silly. Im proud to say that he has done everything just as if she wasnt there! I guess Im getting there, if only we could do that in front of unknown dogs, male dogs barking.... oh well maybe one day.... Kavik re the loosening of control, I have noticed some undesireable things since intruducing prey drive training, its nothing major. 1. Rex started digging holes in my yard 2. He has killed 3 rats recently He has never done those things before, being 6yo atm. Im not worried, its just odd. -

I thought about it overnight a bit Neutralised dog or not - For someone like me that lives in the suburbia there is a daily risk of taking my dog out of my backyard. I took him for a walk last night, just on the streets in my suburb. In an hour I came across about 15 dogs. One GSD eye to eye as it came from around the corner the same time as I came from another side. GSD wanted to eat Rex... to which he of course responded. Nothing happened, but Id rather not have my dog growling back at anything. 4 dogs were off lead including one rottie. I have noticed them early enough and walked other direction. I am guessing this is an average evening near my house. The closest leash free park that is desent is 15 minutes drive from my house. Its an open area where I can walk away far enough from any people and in case I see someone call my dog. I dont mind driving there, but there is a risk of leash free dogs coming over to my dog. I have an option of breaking the law and letting my dog run on the golf course (which I already do and Im chased by the care takers on regular basis) or in another park that is not leash free. As there is no way my dog will get enough excercise in my yard what is the solution? As none of the above scenarios is safe/practical/responsible. Anyone? -

I have seen your male twice, once on lead with my dog once with the CAO. Although it gives me an idea, I dont think I get a full picture. Never seen your female interact with other dogs. Have you heard how is Jenny with Begian Rex going? I belive she was on the neutralisation and prey work program? damn How about do the drive work, compete and on top of that have a social companion and occasionally do dog park running? Not achieveable? Maybe Ill just get a cat , they dont need to go out. I had more incidents walking my dog on a suburbans street than anywhere else. Those are more risky than anything else I have done with my dog. Considering that the chief instructor of my club is attending your drive workshop with her dog, maybe there is a chance that not only we will do it but also be able to identify the dogs suitable for the work. -

Something to do with the dog. No gain, no goal, break the boredom. It so just happends that lots of my friends are dog people.... yes we can meet without the dogs, but I rather with, my dogs spend too much time alone as is. That was to ilustrate that there is a smaller chance of the off leash dogs coming over Feel free to emial me the list Im not the only one that would want to do some work with those dogs and people. Shame that they most likely wont want to see me....... Yet another reason to do "our own" club guys...... Im going to put forward in my club a class that will concentrate on drive training, wish me luck....
