nah nah nah nah - I already know.... -
 :D Mum is home Mum is home!!!!, so lucky, Ive missed her heaps.... What a day today, stayed alone, they did all sorts of barriers so that I couldnt go places, and they didnt let me get up on the verandah, but Im a smart cookie and I broke through. Mum found me asleep on Rexs bed when she got home. I didnt do really any damage, only pulled out my bed out of the dog house, and pruned some plants for them, they were out of control and out of shape a bit. Oh and pulled some washing off the line on the verandah, I guess I wasnt allwed there for a reason, but who cares. Mum played with me for a while but I was too excited seeing her and only wanted her not the toy. I than stolen her jacket and we played with that for a while. Now when I do a sit I even lift my paw waiting for the toy. Thats so much fun!!! I now decided to rearange some stuff at home their decorating skills are seriously lacking I have to show the oldies how its done in the new era. Shoes especailly, they belong all over the house, scattered in various rooms - kind of modern Australian art form, that so far, not many appreciate. And Mum did show stacking with me today, oh she was soooo happy I was standing there all nice, head and tail up, not moving my feet, she gave me extra kisses and rubs all over, if only Dad was home Id have a nice show photo taken, maybe later or another day. Im off to bed for a while now, Im exhusted. Divani

Starting To Do Bike Road Work
MonElite replied to Aequus's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
If you have enough energy to ride on the grass than that is ideal as ET is on grass. I had to get fit for the ET hence the training was more for me than for the dog I used to put a belt on my waist and tie the lead to it, hence hands were free and dog not behind. But that is not allowed in the test. -
Starting To Do Bike Road Work

My dog pulled like crazy, I did him on a prong at first. Re pads, I used to ride on footpaths in quiet streets (I dont think its allowed but noone ever told me not to) and I was on the footpath while he was on the grass. PawPaw ointment for dry worn out pads. Id alway apply it in large qtys after the run when he was resting. If the dog pulls it will wear pads a lot more, be carefull, once they wear out a bit they break on the "corners" -
Here is photo of my pupp Imagine the toy is food and the dog is tied up. It has to look at you, when it does you unclip the lead and say ok.
-
No it doesnt, my breeder did sch work as well. And has been ob instructor for several clubs, had won countless ob awards and had ob champions. Dont know about enforcing, Im not planning on breaking the agreement so that will not apply to me at all.
-
My contract states The buyer agrees that a basic obedience-training course will be completed with this Dobermann before 18 months of age It doesnt say where and how. There is a list of clubs, a private trainer recomendation etc. It also says Buyer also agrees this Dobermann will not be used as a guard dog for any business. Unless the business is run from the family home and the Dobermanns main purpose is that of family companion part of which may involve being a deterrent of unwanted intruders. That is amongst all other things.

Maybe parts of it are due to ones upbringing? I mean I have never ever in my life considered purchasing a non pedigree dog, it was either that or a rescue, none of the pure no papers stuff. Perhaps it came from my parents teaching me about quality stuff and value for money? Dont know.
-
As I have just purchased a puppy I can tell you that I have signed a contract that specifies that I have to feed my dog BARF, that I have to do this that and the other as well as not to this that or the other (all with the dogs wellbeing in mind) and that I have to take my dog to obiedience . If I dont live up to the contract the breeder has a right to take the dog back. And I have signed it (almost in blood) that is something, at least some "regulation"

I used to have slugs!!! I know....... I was denayed pets when I was a child and most I managed to get was a stick insect, slugs and at some stage an aquarium. My fav saying is - there are no stupid dogs just stupid owners.
-
Ditto! I can only tell you that once in a while something makes up for it, such as meeting some complete stranger (in love with their dog) and finding out that they have my boys son. I instruct at the club and I had an extremly unrully young dog in one of the beginners classes. The woman just had no control, I showed her tiny little bit on how to control the dog, make him not jump on her and told her to come next week with an update. She did and thanking me, saying that last week she was in tears ready to rehome the monster. She now comes to the club and the dog has improved heaps. Not everyone should own a pet - I think there should be a licencing system for someone to get a pet, Info courses and exams.

You are better off staying that way Abracadabra is fab

IM so sorry Lablover I hope you get better in no time. Is your leg swollen? (Im an ex physio) if it is put some ice on it, elevate and massage gently from the bottom up. My little Baby sweetheart is settling in nicely, she has stayed today alone for the fist time, lets see how many neighbours will tell me off ..... Rex is inside, lucky bugger. She is also mentally settling in, starting to get a bit more boisterous and we do a bit of prey training, 3 minutes is way to much for her atm, so I have to cut it down a bit, until she gets the idea. She does a perfect sit for the toy for me now, that is with Rex running around with her in the yard. However still her best drive is sofa drive and cuddle drive And she finally is eating like she should be, and I think she is getting pretty good idea of her name.

When my boy was growing up (and he isnt a big dobe) he was as many kg as he was weeks. Therefore 16 weeks = 16 kg = 16 chicken necks for one meal.
-
Welcome to the Dobelovers world Mine isnt 8 weeks old, its more, hence the 12kg ;) And by the sounds of it has less drive than yours. Im very impressed by your training results, of course I cant compare mine as I have my Baby for only 2 days and she doesnt even know her name as yet. Re recall - Id have someone hold mine for me to be able to walk for more than 20m, otherwise she is right there wil me, all the time. She ate a bit of a rug, steals my shoes repeatedly, eats every plant, and started digging in a pot, but the best drive she has is sofa drive, that is for sure See I expected hell on earth and there isnt anything like it, so Im kinda almost dissapointed She discovered the mirror today, barked at herself not happy at all, than realised that the "other dog" isnt a danger so she did several play bows

This is from Divani again ;) My Mum is crazy. She had a weekend with me, and wanted to teach me everything in those 2 days, silly woman. I gave her my best, thats why Im basically dead now, soooo tired. She took me for a walk to the little park this afternoon (from what I hear Rex and Flame had a run there). So I walked 3 streets with her on lead, there and back. She says its not far but my legs are not as long as hers, plus I have never been for a walk on the street, so it was very eventfull for me. I apparently was perfect on lead, including a moment where two rotties charged at the gate barking loud at us. I got scared, run away a bit and than stood all hackled up looking at them, silly dogs, they thougth they can scare me more. No way Mum was with me, she will come to my aid if need be. Than we were at the park and she pulled out couple of toys for me to chase and tug. It was a bit hard as there dogs behind fences barking, some kids screeming and weird noises from everywhere, but I gave her my best. She wore me out, she didnt know when to stop, overworked me big time. I had to rest after that, it was huge, 10 or 15 minutes, Im only a small pupp, I cant think for that long so much. At home I had another lesson - this time it was more of my name and we did a SIT again. This how I do it. Than Dad came from work and Mum showed him how I can nicely sit (for food) and he couldnt stop wowing and wowing over my abilities. Unfortunatelly I still dont really get this stuff about being tied up before food. Divani

Will this sort of stuff do? or we have to do a lot better?

I will speak from personal experience. I had a dog reacive dog. He got into couple of fights at some stage, but wasnt really that bad, and wouldnt attack the other dogs just like that for no reason. However if he disliked the dog, or eyeballing was happening the hell would open. Than he got attacked by a friendly enough looking GR, so he became worse. I went to ob clubs and in one club, there was a staffie that my dog didnt like. I ws told exactly what you were, give him huge correction blah blah, so I did, not knowing any better. Over a period of time I have suppressed the warning signals and my dog would just all of a suddend lounge at other dogs with an intent to injure them. Of course (still not knowing any better) I listened to the instructors in the club and they made me stay with the dog and weaved the stuffy near us. My dog grabbed the staffy it took 4 of us to separate them, basically we strungled my dog. So I seeked help from a pro (K9 Force) and a new world of knowledge had opened. I dont think that I will ever be able to have my dog not dog agro, but I control the situations that I put him in, I tought him a very good recall and we didnt have any serious incidents for months and months. He still isnt happy about meeting other dogs but I have given up on an idea of a happy stroll in the park and not watching my dog nor the sourounding for what is approaching. I walk in leash free park, but either alone or with dogs that my dog knows. Today I was in the park playing with my new puppy, my dog off lead doing whatever he wanted to and a couple appeared with a small fluffy on lead. My dog spoted the fluffy and my heart stoped, just like it would 18 or so month ago (than he would run to the dog and want to fight with it), but I called him and he came back, people went by and we all minded our own business. I am in no way saying that a full turn around isnt possible, I took an easy way out of controling situations and having good recall.

I asked Mum to type this up for me. ;) I had a busy morning today, they dont stop here, they must think I know everything already. I went to the park for a walk to meet Mums and Rexs friends, Mum carried me around again and considering that it ws very scary thank DOG she did. I was welcomed by all Mums friends and got heaps of attention than all Rexs friends wanted to meet me, but we were only allowed to sniff noses while I sat on Mums lap. I think I was accepted OK, noone wanted to hurt me, not even Dokia, and I have been told to watch my back, just in case. She actually didnt want to know me, said hello and left, thats fine by me. After Rex played with his friends and they all left Mum put me on the ground to explore, that was a nice place, lots of tall trees, nice grass. She wanted to play with me chase and tug, she took this silly belt out of her jacket, she must be crazy thinking Ill play with that. I chose the handle of the retraceable lead instead. That was fun, its large, black, makes funny sound when droped to the ground and moves away when I just want to catch it... Sometimes Im quicker but I cant really bite it so I just stomp on it with my front feet and jump on it. I only did a little dribble in the car on the way to the park, and none on the way back, but Im still very scared, and I shake and dont like it at all. Im not sure about this crate bussiness, I went inside it today by myslef few times just for moment, its not bad at all, but when that door shuts and Im by myself I hate it and I let the whole world know about it. Shame noone comes to my rescue. Rex is really nice guy, he is gentle with me, originally I thought of him as of a peadophile (sp) but he has calmed down a lot Mum says. He even plays with me sometimes. He shares his bed and lounge with me no problems, but I shall not be going near his toys and certainly not near his food, he got very very angry at me today over a piece of lamb flap that he found somewhere (I must have left it behind) lucky Mum was just there and cought him while I had a split second to run away. We dont eat together, Mum says thats not a good idea. In fact this eating business is puzzling, she ties me up to a tree before I can eat, some silly idea that I havent figured out as yet and I only bite the leash that Im on. And today I have learned a first word - SIT, Mum says she will get be told off for that, as Ill be sitting in the showring for sure, but she doesnt care. I still dont know my name Divani
