  1. Last night I had a bit more time than usual hence I did heaps of activities with my Baby. Oh was she worn out by the end of the day or what at 10 pm she basically walked off to the bedroom got in her crate by herself and collapsed Taking K9s advice on board I got a piece of wood to tie her up to and use my miniture horse to plow my backyard in case I wanted to plant some potatoes in the spring , however it had turned out as she wants it as yet another toy ;) so I did few helicopters on lead as that seemed to work in the past than got home tied her up to the dining table and off she went yanking the table few times. Not ideal but at least she did it few times More helicopters on lead inside, those that have been to my place will know how long my living room is, well for Ms Divani to drop the toy it takes for me to walk 27 times the lenght of the room there and back. Back outside more helicopters, Im considering just placing the office chair to be spinned around by the dog either one way or the other Head spins to the max, might have to give up booz and drugs (sex and rock'n'roll can stay) getting enough damamge done to the brain wiht the spins :D Than we had a theraputic visit of a friend with a child and Im pleased to say that after a while both the child and the dog ended up on the sofa cuddling.
  2. basically thats what it is. Do a search on this forum for a subject orginated by K9 Force - Prey Drive Control and Focus - that has details, happy reading
  3. here is one for you what you descibe is a tug, if not done correctly one can possibly injure the dogs neck. We are talking about walking the dog in a circle after the dog captured the toy, without the handler holding the toy. That is only to give you a brief idea, it can not be explained - well I cant - youd need a demo.
  4. If I can do the spinning, than sit, stay, come, release the toy, helicopter, do I HAVE to go though the tie out process? What is the biggest benefit of the tie out?
  5. You must have misunderstood me, she goes nuts in drive with the leash on inside the house, int he yard, outside the yard, she doesnt on a tie out - anywhere.
  6. I love the naughtieness of my puppy as well. She of course does settle down after training, the settling down is basically her going to bed and playing this a toy of some sort, it could be a bread crumb found on the floor I have locked her up in the crate last night when I had to do stuff, she just ate the bed... When I was ready I moved her to her bed near the sofa and watched a bit TV she just rolled on the bed trying to play with my hands. So is that ok or not? or should she be in a crate than as well?or she should be on the bed not playing. or should I kick her outside (really dont want that she is alone enough as is)?
  7. I seem to be having the same type of a problem, a tie out basically doenst happen, neither for this or for TOT, she just bites the lead and gives up in a split second, not being interested in the food or the toy. She will just find a tinies piece of grass and play with that herself. I do manage to do the helicopter with the toy, yes sometimes wiht a lead in her mouth, but I try to basically exchange the lead for the toy. So today I have sucessfully done 4 helicopters with the puppy being eager to do stuff, in the location other than my backyard (still no distractions), we got some lead biting but an improvement from couple of days ago. I certainly get head spins big time as she doesnt drop the toy for ages and gallops with it for countless amount of circles. I have the toy on the lead as well, apart from having the dog on lead, if that is any help wyvernblade.
  8. Re bone - one dog was outside one inside, war through glass door. hence I think there will be a war through the crate door unless I lock one in another room. That is not fair to one or the other if the family is all together and is isolated for no apparent reason. I mean I can almost feed them together, one on my right one on the left but I have to stand there and watch, gawd forbid I leave them alone with food. My Ms Theif Master is the same, basically constant posession of somehting new, anything cought on the run. New posession every minute, if no new things than the corner of the sofa is perfect as well. I do a swap for a toy immiediatelly than a tug etc but I have to leave her to her own devices from time to time. If I give her a toy/bone she is on her bed chewing on it, how does it differ to being in a crate with a bone? Or do I let her chew the bone on her bed and just watch the King of the Sofa, he is easier to manage than her, he can just heel with me non stop and do sit stays non stop.
  9. she does as well, but I ignore that totally and now she does it only for a short period of time, less than a minute maybe even less than 30 sec, than does the big sigh and just looks around. At least I have done this one thing right...
  10. one more q than in the crate bedding becomes the toy, no bedding she will chew the crate. Anything is a toy. If I give her a toy to occupy herself she goes to bed and chews on it for a while by herself than just relaxes and either snoozes off or just watched me do stuff.
  11. so hanging off my sleave is ok while I eat dinner? if it isnt than crate? - she will have to spend a lot of time in the crate than...
  12. Yes I have noticed them as well.... I have a toy questions than for the gurus and experienced guys. My baby girl - call her the Master Thief considers everything her toy. So that you understand my question I might describe the every day life for clarity. Mornings and nights we do 2-3 minutes of teh official prey drive building, not exactly how the good doctor prescribed but I can see some improvement already its only been a week. I get home at 6.30-7pm after being absent for about 9-10 hours. Master Thief is alone outside the whole time, King of the Sofa is inside. MT has no toys outside, only stuff she will find in the garden, hence my plants have all been reduced in size. I let them get together for a while when MT goes into overjoy of happyness (just like her name describes) and they play a bit while I get out of the work clothes etc. I than take KotS out for a run, she stays at home with some food, she is too small to run with him and he bosses her around way to much. We get back and this is where it all starts. She is basically non stop active, wants to play with me, Rex or when OH comes back with him, untill we go to bed at about 11 pm. Like the good doctor ordered there are no toys about really, but than anything and everything becomes a toy, despite how tidy the home is. So between peeling the potatoes, making phone calls, checking paperwork I do a tug with her. My meals are cooked in a way so that when I eat I dont have to use knife and fork, only fork so I have a spare hand for the tug and throwing toys. But there are times when I just cant have my eyes on her all the time and if there are no toys about than she will find somehting for herslef to play with, and its usually something that I dont want her to have. So just like parents put the TV on for the kids to shut them up for a while I give Ms Master Thief a toy to play with. Is that a crime in the training terms? Yesterday I gave her a pigs ear, him a pigs ear, WWIII broke out almost. So we will not be doing that again. There was a bone outside and no matter what dog was on which side of the glass door - war over the bone. We are not going to have any wars, hence bone confiscated, ears confiscated, but than how do I keep her occupied for the short times I have to do something while I dont give her full attention? I could lock her up in the crate, but I feel Ill be suppressing her somehow, not sure. so those that have a full time job, a house to look after shopping to do etc, what do we do? How od we overcome no extra toys policy?
  13. I thought its time to answer your question FD After the commnet by caslero No matter what she will inherit from whom - she will be a bitch from hell Divani is looking forward to meeting all Mums friends, hopefully soon.
  14. Padding on the seat, that is THE most important thing I have found. Having a dobe that went daily for a run conditioning the dog wasnt an issue for me at all, it was more of a case of him not to pull me (which he did all the way except the last lap - yest that is one lap out of 10) I went for rides beforehand to train for myslef to make the 20km ride. And Im pleased to say that I appear in casleros link 2 photos as we did it the same year. Pad your seat, no gel bike seat will save your bum if you are not used to it. I taped a pillow onto mine and it didnt look good but I was ridong on a "sofa"
  15. Mum is going to change my name to warry wart. I worry about new/weird things all the time... Mum took me to the shops this morning to get bread, its a fruit and veg market and there is this big entrance there with the auto swinging gate. That gate was going to attack me and there was no way that I was going to go through it. No amount of c'mon, good girl, look where is the toy. I froze, planted my feed and nails in the concrete as if I had superglue instead of pads and I wasnt going anywhere. Mum picked me up and we went over the gate, thats ok, I looked around the shop and wanted to steal some celery. Than we went to the park, there are some works being done there and large bobcats go up and down, big man in orange vests and biping sounds everywhere. I couldnt care less about that after Ive been show that they are not there to attack us. Plus Rex was there, he is cool with things like that so I just copy him. So Mum decided that she HAS to take me to more places as I only know the yard, grass, golf course and the park and that is certainly not enough. I learn how to walk on loose lead and I do extremly well by myslef, but when Rex runs aroundme, that is another story... he is too much of a distracion for me atm. I can walk on all sorts of surfaces, have been tested for that, and have no problems. They do this toy thing chasing with me all the time, last night Mum had me pulling on the rag and she was "kicking" me from both sides, I wouldnt let go of the toy, she was happy. Plus I have a lot more energy these days, when Mum gets home form work I dont stop at all all night, I pull stuff form anywhere and everywhere, if they confiscate all possible things I always manage to find some tiny piece of something to play with. Mum got angry at that and decided that the house is more of a pigs style than a human style and introduced the vacuum cleaner last night. Oh I didnt like it at first at all!! what a monster!! but Mum had just pulled it out, left it off for a while and let me invesitigate myslef, and I found out that it isnt going to jump at me. Than she put it on and I didnt really like, but it was OK, I dont have to be friends with it, I wasnt affraid and Mum was happy. And I think I understand what is going on with this silly thing of being tied up before food, Mum is very happy. I still dont eat much, she is worried as I have lots my baby fat and look skinny. And I have been told that there is a big weekend ahead of me - to get ready for action. Divani
  16. Right now at my club $0 as Im a volounteer instructor but others pay $20 per year and $3 per lesson.
  17. You are not throwing out any expensive french pate are you?
  18. Two more questions LOL What about me training someones dog? or someone training mine?
  19. So we can enter photos of someones dogs in training, or dogs we have never seen before? Surly you dont mean ANY.
  20. I love it. Last night I had instead of your GHOD an empty coke bottle making sounds on the wooden floor. Absolutly same type of a scenario and reactions. I left the Coke Bottle of Death on the floor, placed a toy near it and encouraged her to come to the toy. That worked for me. Have you considered turning GHOD into a prey item? or putting yummy expensive lets say french pate on it? Other than that, I like PAXs idea, apart from the death factor the pupp will learn that the GHOD is actaully not so bad after all.
  21. Ok a little entry in the diary by Divani, due to popular demand, but maybe a last one on DOL, Ill see how we go. I have survived my second whole day outside by myslef. They have changed the arrangements and made the verandah look like a fortress and despite the attempts to conquer it I have failed. I have, however, redecorated the dog house and the yard. The bed does NOT belong inside the dog house, it belongs near the gate. That took a lot of effort as its Rexs bed its big and heavy and I had to drag half way through the block of land Mum and Dad live on. The blankets that were in the dog house to make everything more appealing went out as well , the other direction, the corner in the yard looked empty a bit so I put some stuff over there. I dug a small hole near the gate and Mum found me asleep there when she got back, I was cuddling a toy. Mum not impressed as he worries it too cold for me to be resting on the ground, they are talking about moving the doghouse. Im better in chasing the toy, Mum changed her training a bit and I do more fetching now than chasing of the rug. I really enjoy it, we swap toys every time, the one Mum has in her hand is always somehow better than the one I have in my mouth. I wonder how does she do that??? I had a lesson in walking on loose lead Mum was extra impressed with my progress. I can also now shake hands on command. This morning I have tried not to do what Mum says, just to see what will she do, she is one persistant monster, Ill have real hard time trying to win with her.... bummer. Also last night Mums and Dads friend Andrew came to build the fence and the gate between me and Rex, he came in through the back door, how dare did he do that? I bailed him up agains the back door barking at him, not happy Jan!! Andrew said that Im some character and they laughed at me calling me a guard dog ups sorry guard puppy. All that defence drive must be in my lines, I guess there is some leftover of those dangerous euro schIII dogs on my mothers side in me. I later went to Andrew to say hello, after all he is a nice guy, just took me by surprise at first. Than Dad came home entered through the back door as well and I run up to him all happy. Rex is a lot of fun, he just stands there while I jump on him, bite his ears and bark at him, He occasionally opens his mouth and I can stick my whole head inside his mouth while I check his throat out for any irregularities. He must like it, beats me why. Im trying to master that toilet training thing, that is a bit hard, I had few accidents here and there, but now I know that as soon as I wake up we run really fast to the door, outside and I have to do wee wees. Its a lot harder when noone helps me to make that decision. Mum says Ill do well with time, after all it isnt even a week since Im at my new place. I love my new home, mostly the small doona on the sofa..... Divani
