  1. he is doing a lot better than this video this was filmed to show someone what type of corrections are required when using a prong collar - this was an original purpose od the clip. BTW you can always fly up to Sydney to see K9 - many people do.....
  2. My heart goes out for you jbc, I know what you are talking about as I also had a serial puller. that is a 4.5 yo puller... I had him on all sorts of equipement with some results but still pulling me unless I yelled at him.. I have had a prong collar given to me by a friend from overseas but was affraid to use it. I went to see K9 Force and voila this is how we are now I was shown in one lesson what to do, did it at home as told and you can see for yourself. BTW Rex isnt that good in this video, he was tired after a huge run and training and was lagging a bit, but yu can see that I change directions, speed etc and he is just walking with me not pulling. He isnt to heel, he is to walk on loose lead (in case someone wants to comment that he isnt close to me on the turns)
  3. Id like to hear some professional view on this bit. To me a simmilar is a martingale, to someone a check chain but I cant see anyone screeming at anyone for using them....
  4. Thanks Jeff, will try tomorrow, time and circumstances providing. When it comes to digging - The fruitloop dug a hole in the grass today, few days of no prey work and we have a result. I love her!
  5. Rex wasnt around when I did it ( I tied him up to a fence on the other side of the park, maybe 100m away, other than that the park was empty. She was physically a bit tired but nothing drastic. Was happy to do it on lead, it wasnt training I just wanted to see how will she react to being tide up somewhere other than my yard.
  6. OK been to the park. I didnt go the with the goal of testing her, I just went for a walk and tried something while there. On lead no worries, even with Rex running around fruitlooping about. Tie out a bit of a freak out and unhappy face, but I held the lead and slowly/gently let it go into a tie out and she relaxed. She was a bit tired from running around but showed interest in the ball for few seconds. I released her after that.
  7. yes it was the same part of the yard. The moment I put the lead on the fence it was all over. It will sound kind of funny but I dont really have any other areas in the yard where I could do it. Unless I use a stake out in the middle. She doest shut down on lead in the same spot, however she isnt as keen as she was previously. Still goes into drive etc, just for shorter periods of time not so enthusiastically.
  8. OK I just tried. On lead with the damned toy - no problem. Happy to do it, in the yard, outside the yard, in presence of Rex, people whatever. Tie out - FORGET IT!!! Doesnt want to know about it. Not only wont go into drive but goes into shut down mode. Happy to be on lead just not tied out.
  9. Im happy to say that Divani is doing really well. We had out first day at the show today Im very proud of her and how she handled the situation. She was freaked out in the beggining but got used to the noise, people, dogs etc in no time. Half way through the day she was chasing and biting the end of the lead in an area full of everyone and everything. I let her have the ball once, she went for it no prob and than carried it for a while. Im happy to say that at least she doesnt think that the ball still bites. Mind you she preffered the liver treats over the toy today.
  10. I might have to borrow somoeones dog.... the one grown up I own has sofa drive instead of prey drive We will try - Im not doing any training with her apart form show stacking and that is sort of like petting anyway. She grabs stuff (lets say washing) when I carry it, so I guess it cant be all bad.
  11. I took her fo a walk on the golf course this evening, off lead, did some show stacking (which in the past I rewarded with the ball) and she was fine. I threw the ball for her few times, she was off lead and no collar and she chased it. I put a collar on, chased the ball as well. i didnt want to steach it and just walked with her and let her explore. OH got a new toy out inside a fluffy snake, its about 2 m long, she took the head and dragged the rest behind her really happy. Rex wanted it as well so she got all in the mode "Its mine" We took the toy away as there would have benn a war over it, but at least I know she is still interested in chasing them. So I guess its OK-ish. Thanks LL for the offer - Ill emial you
  12. You meant to say I DID now she is affraid of the brand new orbee ball especially bought for her... I wont even mention what she thinks aobut being tied up in the spot where it happened. We will go back to the biting of toys on the sofa for a while I think
  13. really? that is a serious bungee I have trouble streaching it. I bought 3meters of it in case I needed it double, but Ill cut a piece and see how we go with the leash bungee combo. Thanks J'sO.
  14. I have also just been to the shop and got bungee cord for her.
  15. Thanks Jeff. By the looks of it that crate will get moved around few times in the next few days Im so dissapointed - we were going so good, she was really enjoying herself, now its like Ive taken 3 steps forward and than 30 back
  16. Last night I have rushed out in the 10 minutes that it wasnt raining to do drive building with Baby Divani. All exciting and fun, I tied her to the fence, showed her the ball and lets say she was to the far left, I jerked the toy to the far right she lounged herself really hard hit the end of the lead and cried (she was on flat collar) got scared and "run away" to the far left where she run out of lead and jerked herself again and cried again. So she ended up totally out of drive, thinks the ball bit her, hates being tied up, tail down face as the world collapsed on her, hates me as well. I untied her tried playing - no luck Took her outside the yard she calmed down and started exploring, got the ball out and she kind of only kind of was interested in it. I really tried to make it all good again, run with the toy, bounced it around laughed etc, but she is reluctant. This morning chased the toy inside the house of a bit lost interest REALLY quickly. Instead of building drive I have just killed everything I had. What do I do now??????
  17. Baby is in her crate at night 11 pm to 7am no probs, she sleeps all night. thats 8 hours so I guess she would do 10 when a bit older no probs. I wont do it tho, I hate seeing birds in cages Id hate doing it to the dog. I understand why its done, and dont have a prob with other people doing it. I just personally cant, thats all. Hmm actually maybe if I had a crate on the sofa ;) in addition to the one in the bedroom I wouldnt mind.
  18. Although I understand that putting the dogs away while not training is the way I do have a problem with accepting to have a dog in a crate all day long. That has nothing to do with training it comes from being a pet owner, etc. Large pen, backyard with no dogs - yes, but I cant personally go pass the idea of crating the dog for extended periods of time. Out of itnerest Jeff how long are you training sessions, are you awya from home/dog for extended periods of time (I work full time + travel time = 10 hours a day) Kavik - when my puppy is getting to miscievious in the evening I break her apart from Rex tell him to go to bed, and keep and eye on her only. I play with her a bit and she understands that she had her time with Rex and being a nuisance, its over and she is to do what I say otherwise its the crate. She is happy to just hang around me watching TV - I guess she knows the consequences of too much play.
  19. Oh yeah and I must go and get taht bungee cord for a tie out, I think that will help
  20. crate it? go out drive building? I fail doing both and I do a snuggle on the sofa ;) no wonder I have no results....... Well ok I play with the toy inside a bit (drive building), than play with the toy on the sofa..
  21. In this subject there is info about tie out and drive building. All my errors are listed, and all advice about the errors is given. I think/thought that there is an easy way out of this, shortcuts to take, Im told that there arent. So I have changed some stuff after being told in that subject and my girl will lunge for the ball on a tie out, where she didnt before. I didnt have a need for attaching something to the lead, I just did drive work on lead int he yard and than one day tied her up to the fence and she did it. She is a lot worse on a tie out than on lead, I guess we need to work on that bit more. One "crime" I do these days is failing to do 3 x 3 daily, its raining, its cold, its dark when I get home, plus life gets in the way just a bit too much right now. I do some stuff inside but that isnt following the advice correctly..... Divani will play with Rex (shouldnt - I know) and I will pull out a ball and she will be happier to do drive building with me than to hang of Rexs neck, so I guess it isnt THAT bad. If I did that my girl would take the toy run away with it and chew it for hours , Id have to curl her lips to get the toy back, or swap it for another item. That isnt what you supposed to be doing, thats why the dog supposed to be on lead to give you control over what it does with the toy and where it goes with the toy. And yes my girl will wait and lounge for the ball on a tie out, she doenst go nuts for it all the time, she is just too smart for it ;) or is ti called that she doesnt have enough drive?..... Talking about being smart and taking this OT a bit. She has learned to open the door (using the handle) so she can do it from both sides of the door. Lets herself out and in as she pleases ;) I was speachless yesterday when she was inside, Rex outside, he wanted to get in, she went to the door opened it for him to let him in ;) I must teach her to close the door as well, its too cold for it to be left wide open atm....
  22. have you done the 3x3x3x7 with him tied up to the fence? How do you do drive building in the backyard with no lead - how do you get the toy back?
  23. Im certainly no expert in this and have my fair share of faliures in the department but have you tried doing it just in the front yard with no distractions? I find for my puppy that an empty park is fine, but as soon as there are dogs barking she looses interest - obviously too much distraction for her atm. im lucky to have the golf course next door and I do a bit in the yard than another bit just outside, and already there is a difference. The outside I do less and than she gets to walk around. I dont take Rex with me, nor that are any people there. We can hear a busy road in a distance and she gets distracted by ambulance sirens, each and every time... I was very proud of her when at the info night she did a bit in front of several dogs, several people and under strange lighting. Maybe a minute or so but still thats something. As K9 said to me in another threat - its a baby take small steps. I ahve been very slack over last few days and there hasnt been the 3 x 3 happening here at all, the rain and personal stuff just gets in the way too much. I do a bit of toy chasing inside the house instead as not to loose what Ive got already. Dont know if that is correct or not, but Baby seems to enjoy it :D
  24. Well I guess Im interested in the hypotheticals As Rex is dog agro Im worried that Divani will pick up on his behaviours, thats why Im asking. I mean I really dont put Rex in hairy situations, that one was a failure on my side to think that somehting like this will happen. and now Im panicking that the damage is already done. Hopefully not. Thankfully she is more interested in chasing the ball with me than anything else, so hopefully I can overcome such distractions in the future. This is the girl - asleep but watching
  25. PAX can I have a little bit of a rund down of the Specialty - the ob, the WAE etc, as on ozdobe there was only WAE and scatchy show results. Tell us about obiedience pls.
