How Do You Classify 'nerves'
MonElite replied to wyvernblade's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Well, I have two dobermanns and they are completly different to each other, as if they were a different breed. They even share some distant ancestory few generations back. One is overly human friendly the other overly aloof. Form day one. Maybe becouse one is black the other brown? -
the squirting bottle made me so did the head torch :D My experience is that treats were complety of no value when it came to treating my dos agression, so I have never carried any with me, let alone a squirting bottle I see a dog I cross the road, simple as that.

I could probably write a book on what not to do with a fear agro dog, unfortunatelly. I have always wondered why my dog was agro. It is most surprising that YESTARDAY I found out that he was attacked by another dog at a show when he was a puppy (I wasnt present) I dont think I was ever told about it by the person that took care of him at the time. I have through wrong training methods made him 100 fold worse no doubt, but I guess now I know how it all has started. But if I was to give one piece of advice that would be - have your eyes open (those at the back of your head as well) think ahead and avoid situation even if it means your personal ego will suffer.

Noone has ever said that Police (whatever state or country) dont use positive methods. Noone has ever said K9 doesnt use positive methods. I have ever said I dont use positive methods. Majority of people here say that all of the above dont use PURLY positive methods and IF REQUIRED for a specific dog will use a mixture of positive and correctional methods. Is there anything wrong in anyones eyes to be mixing positive and correctional methods?? I guess those that see it being a problem had never correted a child, had never gone over the speed limit and didnt get corrected for that by getting a fine (that is a stupid example, just cant think of a better one right now...) -
Lablover yes you MUST come to NSW for a trial. Put me on your mailing list of those to be notified of your trip to Sydney. Love the photos! MORE MORE MORE MORE MORE MORE

For several reasons I have voted for Flame, but if she doesnt win I hope it will be a black and tan dog! Not a pretty face dog but a dog that is actually working. Im totally with BC4ME on this one. -

Are you saing you are close minded? Of course you dont, that is in the agend for each workshop, if you show interest in attending one you will receive it... Or you thought that K9 is going to put his ecolllar manual on here for you to read? For free? Or that all of us that PAY for his services will copy you on one, or all his emial that support us basically 24/7 if need be? Get real, neither K9 or we are a charity. He does enough free advice here and elswhere. I volounteer enough time at my obiedience club. Have you ever wondered WHY? Where does it say that? I though it said that dogs got bounced back as their TEMPERAMENT wasnt suitable. Guess what - my dobie puppy wouldnt be suitable as a lap dog. she doenst have a lap dog temperament...... This is the time I usally post clips of my "unhappy" dog for you to see how I train, but I have done this so many times, Im sure you have all seen it, wont bore you with them again. I also challenge you to take my dog that many people (including this site) consider very well trained (some consider him hopeless ) to take to the park let him off lead and show me how he does a reliable recall under distractions for you after you show him treats, ball and use a clicker. Considering he already has one, it will be really easy for you. I wonder how will you go when some unknown dogs appear from around the corner and he wont like them. You havnet answered my previous questions L&P As to various equipement - do I understand correctly? You are proposing to lift the ban on ecollars and have them restricted? how about other equipement? - halti, martingale, harness, leash - all can be used incorrectly and inflict pain and injury. That is 3 shots. :p Yes I have "traumatised" about 20 dogs at Easter when I was firing that starter pistol at the last test that was done in Sydney. Im going to write a letter to the Sydney City Council to ban NYE fireworks, they are waaaay louder than the starter pistol. -

Few months went by, is the "one day"yet? -

lab and poodle I do agree with you on several points re dog ownership, if you want to run a campaign to implement a licencencing system for dog ownership - Ill be there. That ONE NZ police dog trained with the clicker (I wonder if ONLY with the clicker......) is I think most famous dog in all pure positive training methods arguments. Can we have some other examples pls. As to various equipement - do I understand correctly? You are proposing to lift the ban on ecollars and have them restricted? how about other equipement? - halti, martingale, harness, leash - all can be used incorrectly and inflict pain and injury. -

Lab and poodle - few questions for you Have you ever felt the output a modern ecollar produces on yourself? How do police across the Tasman train the dogs and what is it that Australian police isnt doing right? What is your proposed law change - can you give us a bit mroe details pls. Rusky - stays on record - does it mean its a cryminal record for the person? I wonder if the tool was confiscated. The person by the looks of it bought it from an Australian supplier Innotek, I dont think there was a problem of the person importing the illegal goods. -

no it wasn't dismissed, it was proven but the case was dismissed without penalty. There is a huge difference in the wording and what you may have understood from the wording. What is the difference? Im "green" in that area. Does that mean that the owner got a cryminal record and no fine? Can someone pls explain this to me. -

Lab and poodle - Im glad you find me :p , this was the exact intention of my post, to make you respond to it. You have with the info that just prooves that you have no idea Im no electrician, nor an engieneer, nor a scientist, but Im a physiotherapist and I have in my life applied various strengths of various currents to thousands of people, myslef including, hell small kids including. And none of them ever complained about it being painfull. Have you ever had the TENS "machine" put on you? I can crank it up to the full output on myslef on any part of my body and the worst will happen to me is some muscle contraction if I hit the right nerve endings. Have you ever felt the output a modern ecollar produces on yourself? At least we agree on one point I also preffer the ecollar to the check chain, but hang on arent they allowed and noone isnt screeming when someone is using one? HR I didnt realise you are into THIS sort of stuff but ecollar??? isnt leather enough? -

Recently there was a person in NSW prosecuted for using a n ecollar. so just happends the dog was a dobie so news traveled fast in "our" little world. The court case was dismissed and owner of the dog got off with no fine. -

They should stop cars firing back as well. That is a noice as well. And oh how about stoping storms with thunders, arent many dogs petrified of them? Lets give RSPCA some more ideas. ;) -
Congrats to the winners! Well done Jenny for taking a great shot of Patrick with Flame

Become World famous HR and you can start charging that as well. Re depressed and obiedient dogs. There are some dogs (will not mention what state what breed and who they belong to) that do extremly well in the ob ring, but noone has ever seen them wag a tail. -
How Do You Classify 'nerves'
MonElite replied to wyvernblade's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
When you are in Sydney wyv Ill show you some WAE videos of dobes. Not that I like the test, but some parts will show you a difference between stronger and weaker nerved dogs. -
Both of my dogs are poor eaters and always thin. Yesterdays dinner that I served got a full refusal from both as it contained some veg matter insead of pure meat They chose to go to bed hungry. My 6.5 yo male treasuered the opened gate and I used this as the temptation. My baby girl thinks the greatest stuff comes when the door opens for her either to go out or to come in, I sometimes use this as a tempation. if its correct or not I dont know, but makes my life easy, thats for sure. Noone is charging through the door or the gate.

Question For Behaviouralists!
MonElite replied to wyvernblade's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I know heaps of blanket/pillow/toy sucking dobes, never heard of a flank sucking one, but I guess if there was nothing to suck he did himslef? Re missing teeth, are they missing as in knocked out or missing didnt come out from the gum? My Rex run into a tree in play with another dog and knocked a top front tooth out and broke another. he had a cut lip but it wasnt major and he didnt seem in pain. -

Would it be possible for you to tell me his pedigree name pls. Privatelly is fine. -
I suggest that you check with the trainer if they 100% guarantee that the dog wont pull after the lesson. Steve guarantees and eveyone that has been to him knows how easy it is and that it can be guaranteed. If your are going to spend $$$$ on whoever and only maaaaybe get results, you might be better off flying up here. Once you are shown its a piece of cake.
