Lizar into a crate/enclosure. Dogs run tired before you leave to go wherever. Than locked up while you are away and asleep. I went to visit PAX recently and we had 5 dogs between us, of which some wouldnt get on. We have managed well (so I feel, wait till PAX tells us otherwise ) No dissasters, no problems, no casualties. Lock the dogs up if need be, rotate, etc.

Looking Up When Heeling
MonElite replied to stacey and douglas's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Is this what you mean? If we ever get to meet (this Sunday is looking really good on my side) Ill give you a photocopy of a part from a book that PAX has lend me about Sch training in drive. It has a very comprahensive explanation of what to do and how to do it and Im happy to say that it works. Or if you want Ill just tell you the title and the author of the book and you can purchase it for yourself. I dont expect miracles from my puppy and she wont do this for long, but in the photo she is off lead in a dog park and there are dogs around. Other than that you can try spitting food - few people here use that method. what title do you want for her? if you want obiedience title such as CCD or CD the dog doesnt have to look up at you to get its title. -
Thanks haven. Created by FD, isnt he just the best?

Very interesting observation. Like arby I ahve seen dogs being walked on prong collars all my life and never heard about it, but I must say that most people in Europe put the prong mid way on the neck not right up behind the ears. IMo it doenst matter where the collar is, if the dog wont pull on it it will not damage anything ever.

I own two dobes, a 38kg 7yo male and a 31kg 7 months old female (as in the pics above) where Im 55kg and I comfortably walk both of them on lead. Not to heel just on loose lead or lets call it slightly tensed but now pulling. There is no need for the dogs to drag you around....... I can just picture my two dobes on harnesses pulling

Are you going to buy some sheep for Chill to herd? or maybe some ducks? Good to see her have fun

FD you like my pointer or my herding dog?
-
Id like to sas, but I bought her mainly for showing. And let me tell you that todays dissaster :D didnt effect my desire to do so So what did you think of her? :D drives, nerves, behaviour, etc? Do you now belong to the love Divani or hate Divani group? :D

According to the guru she doesnt have enough, but as a pet IMHO she has enough. She preffers toy to the food but is keen enough on the treats as well. Her biggest problem is that she doesnt really like people and becomes defensive before you know it. Actually she doenst like anything/anyone that she doesnt know.... Re natural v's build drive, I dont have a clue LOL I tried building but failed, made mistakes, had probs as she jerked herself on a tieout and than would do it tied up. But she chases the toy and goes nuts when I bet the ball out and go training with her. I have tried directed retrieves with her with two balls couple of days ago and she got the idea in about 3-4 goes, I was dancing with joy. And I tried different order of retrieving, various angles, distances etc. Very smart dog, and she remembers EVERYTHING extremly well, the good and also the bad........ She is definitelly smarter than Rex but a lot more "hysterical".

Love the ears, somehow this photo reminds my of my puppy when I first got her Can wait for the report from herding PAX. Go Chill!!!!!!!!!!

Must be running in the "family" RB.... from what I uderstand your pupp is somewhat related to my Rex hence the similiarities.... About two weeks ago I have brought home a foam matress single size, excellent condition, for my ageing boy to sleep on. Yes the intruder had to be eradicated and it has been done with the priseseness and considerable planning. On the first day after the arrival the fabric cover had been taken off the matress, and a hole in the middle of it scratched out, in case any further intruders were hiding underneath. Second day has seen the beginning of the desection of the intruder and has resulted in the equal division of the matress, which I actually though was a brilian idea as than two dogs could have their own separate bedding. Over next few days Rex had taken into training Divani on what to do and Im proud to say she had got the idea really quickly. Both half of matersses have been moved, ripped and shreded into smaller more manageable pieces. This morning puppy was carrying a piece shaped as a guitar and the size of a jumbo jet, while Rex looked with full aproval of the efforts. Im sure he is proud of his student. I on another hand am not so "happy" as currently there are pieces of foam absolutly everywhere in my house and yard. ***************** RB re the story writing - I belive you should, you are good. I have been doing a simmilar thing on my Polish dog fourm for few years and other members have encouraged me to write and I did several stories, mostly for kids, they are all published there and are basically "improved" stories form my dgos life as seen through his eyes. Amongs the fun and fantasy I included info about Australia and about responsible dog ownership etc. They ahve become very popular and I belive some schools have used them. (I find writing in Polish a lot easier, obviously)

you either need to change your settings haven or just click on RB nickname it will display her profile. Be very affraid
-
RB - after seeing your new signature Im now officially affraid to talk to you.

definitelly not 24/7 I belive it states no longer than 10 hours in a day.

I have seen scabs on dogs necks that wear antibarking collars for long periods of time, but it was nothing major. The damage on the labs collar looks severe and it shows as it it is where not only the receiver was but also the strap. Seems a bit weird to me as well. Edited to add - Im not a guru.

How Can We Go About Getting Prong Collars
MonElite replied to jesomil's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I have been a member of two ob clubs and was basically thrown out form one for walking onto the ground with Rex ona half prong. At the other club I aproached a person in charge saying I have a problem can I please use this tool as its recomended by a professional and Ill cover it so that no other people see it. She reluctantly agreed but knew me well enough to trust taht I wont obuse the tool. Since than we have quietly recomended the prongs to few people in our club, its rare when we do but when a 45 kg female walkes in with a charging tank on legs (example: huge male rottie) and has no control of the dog than its time to step in with the right tools. -
Pax its a toy

PAX seems to be doing great in the advice department Althought I have somewhat resisted the clicker she had lend me a schutzhund book and I followed it over last two weeks or so and although, not great, my 7 month old puppy understand the concept of heeling now. Its me that fails her but we will get there one day. Ill share this pic becouse Im proud of my puppy

I hope that beautifull Ben is all better today. An low thyroid makes a dog a bit lathargic/sleep for long hours, dog likes warmth, is a fussy eater and doenst put on weight, often has some skin problems.

No idea where and how to start, but if you need an extra signature on something to legalise them Im definitelly signing it. -
Good idea! Is he crate trained? if they want him inside but not all over them, perhaps he could be in a crate in the room where they watch TV?
-
From the training perspective if the siblings are "misbehaving" with the dog they are also training him the wrong things, so its better for the dog and for you in the long run that they actually lock him out and dont wrongly interact. But I know where you are coming from, people at home = dog at home, not outside.

Is the dog your OHs or parents or whos? IMHO if the dog is mine I tell other people what to do or not what to do with MY dog, if they dont follow they dont get to play with the dogs. With OH I ahve an occasional arguement but I also had other people live at my place for leanghty periods of time and they are basically not to "touch" my dogs unless they follw what I tell them. Perhaps your OH can implement this sort of thing in his household? Bit hard - I know but maybe the best for the dog in the long run.
