Very right haven. The little sh*t I have has learned to open doors, when I turned the key in the lock she knows there is another trick to opening them and while having paws on the handle tries to turn the key with her mouth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hasnt mastered the trick as yet......... I now hide my mobile phone in case she will self teach to use that ;)

Ok perhaps I could explain a bit more I dont consider sit for the door to be opened training. I dont consider come and Ill put your collar on part of training - I belive this is part of every day life and good manners. When I meant training I meant - get the motivator of some sort, and go out and practice something, like improve a retrieve, teach a dog to heel better, revisit, walking on loose lead. I dont really have a goal for training Rex, he is trained to what I wanted him to be and its only maintenance right now. but when I take him for his daily run/walk I always do few recalls where he has to come and sit in front of me, or a do a stay, or change of positions at distance. Something, almost every time. This in my opinion isnt training its just manners. And there are days where I will spend 5 minutes doing heeling with him, not to train him but to train myslef to be a better handler. With Divani - I activelly do some formal training daily. One day its retrieves, one day its stays, another heeling. They are all incorporated but each day Ill pick something that I concentrate on just a bit more. After I have done the formal training I just walk and she has time to do what she wants how she wants it, and if I feel like it I call her again for another few heeling paters and a stay as an example.

I train almost every day, unless something happends that I cant. My sessions are 15-30-45 minutes. Its a play, walk and train mixture and ratio varies on the day. Id like my puppy to be a show dog as well as Id like to compete in agility and obiedience. Other than that she is requied to have reasonable manners as a family pet and for that I teach her as we go at home (no jumping on people as an example) I often think I dont train enough and I will never be able to achieve what I want. My puppy is 8 months old.

I have contacted the owners of the dogcontrol site in regards to this thread and I got this. Hi Mon, Thanks for letting us know, I won't post anything as it will come up with "Who we are" & we want to keep the Dog Control site very separate, for oblivious reasons. The same reason we don't have any details on there about who we are. But thank you for letting us know & also for letting them know we are legit & won't just take their money & not send their product. The reason we have that site is they are products we very firmly believe in & they should be available for the Australian market. The more tools people have to train their dog, the less dog problems we will have. People can be quite ignorant who have never used all the tools at their disposal. There are not in anyway cruel, it's just what certain people would have you think. What is crueler, is having to have the dog destroyed because of behavior problems. I would suggest that if they have any concerns that they go though Steve at K9 Force, he is a top guy & knows his stuff too, so no risk at all. I am also glad you pointed out they need to know how to use them "correctly", not just buy one. Cheers, P.S. Feel free to forward this on or post it if you like

Id also like to add to this that its important taht you know how to use the prong collar, if you dont use it corretly your dog can actually learn to pull on this type of a collar as well, so make sure that you know exactly how to use it and that you follow the methods correctly.

The owners of this site are my personal friends and they are for sure 100% legitimate. BTW they are also a memember of DOL. I will let them know about this thread they might choose to participate. Or get one from K9 of course. Info re import restictions Australian Customs

Rusky - one on one is different to release the group of hounds after the class. This is what I though you meant. I hae myself made several friends at the dog clubs and we let our dogs socialise. I also have a freind where our dogs dont get on and we walk them together on lead.
-
you need a permit to import one.

So far out of all my students there was one man with a mally that refused for me to put a martingale on his dog insead of the halti. no we dont, and I will not be encouraging to implement one en masse.
-
PAX any chance of sending me the handout that you give at your club? There are several people at my club that use them and wont swap for anything else, I could at least give them something to help them out. I wanted to "kill" one guy with the golden that repeatedly arrived with his dog on the halti and an extandeable lead
-
countless times we have had a debate on the prong and it seems that anti prong people are oten a pro halti. We recently had someone ask about what is the correct way to use a prong. Its only fair I think we will hear from the halti users about their tool. So can someone pls explain to the rest of us what is the correct way to use the halti/gentle leader?

As most here know Im pro prog but if you want some criticisme here it is as well 1. if you get a poor quality one and you have a mega strong dog that will launge it can break the collar 2. if you dont put the collar on correctly - that is the links will not lock fully the collar will come undone 3. if you purchase one with a snap like you have on the lead for the quick release, yes it will release really quick, when you least need it. 4. most will rust with time. Plus other than the general apperance of them I cant find anything wrong with them. Hope this helps.

tds (along with couple of other nicknames the same person used) has repeatedly come to the forum and placed insults onto those that are pro prong. Personal insults are not allowed on this board hence the person was removed.

MonElite replied to Rom's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Excellent post Rom. I think this could be improved We do welcome your comments as many in here also trial their dogs and would like any opportunity to get tips for the ring. -
The day my dolfin will start to pull me around the neighbourhood Ill ask you tds for some advice as you are clearly experienced in the field. And while this is a dog forum and we are all here to learn not bully like you suggest what do YOU do when you have a mega pulling heavy dog? Oh and lets make it dog agressive, nervous, affraid of a clicker and not even looking at a treat or a ball.

I find this absolutly amazing that a person taht has just join the forums would come to this thread and tell people waht to do in the first post. What heppened to the introduction of yourself tds in the "Welcome Matt" first?

You might also consider that some dogs that are being trialled are also show dogs and are tought to gait looking straight ahead instead at the handler. -

For a CCD and a CD the dog can be watching your feet while you walk, and the hand signals are pretty much in the dogs face. The dog doesnt have to heel looking at your face, this is what we meant.
