  1. And if the dolphin doesnt jump through the hoop its not a big deal.
  2. Thanks Cordelia, Im glad to see that someone understands what Im trying to say. Will you be my spokesperson or translator next time I'll need to get involved in a heated discussion?
  3. yes I agree with you, but there is always a bit of hope left in me, I guess I was hanging onto this. And I feel that this dog death might mean another dogs life.
  4. I think you have a wrong perception, I dint push anyone to do anything, and certainly didnt ask anyone to TAKE the dog.
  5. Certainly NOT. Especially that help was offered. Just a little bit late, thats all. Pls dont try to read into something that isnt there.
  6. do you know who was posting in the thread? and what experience they have?
  7. I didnt dig. And if anyone considers it was a dig needs to look at the bigger picture again. so If I was to answer your direct question (although a wrong question to be asked) - no it wasnt directed at you. There were several people in the thread talking about what should be done or could be done but noone actually did anything nor offered anything. I have found the thread on its 4th day where the dog was most likely dead by than and questioned the exact thing of noone acting. I have also than xposted it here and heaps of people answered than, you including, which was great.
  8. Tollersowned - I cant teach my dog to heel properly and you are asking me why didnt I offer help for a human agro dog? Sorry out of my league - just slightly.............. I will put my view of the situation and if Ill step on someones toes - so be it. Dogs and anything related to them is my biggest hobby and I spend considereable amount of time doing things for dogs themselves or for people that do things for dogs, including those that make their living out of dogs. Trainers here offer heaps of advice to people that need it. They also make a living out of dog training. For people like me dogs are a hobby not my means of survival. To trainers people like me are means of earning the living. So giving free advice its like advertising and promotion. I dont think that anyone can deny the fact that just like I promote the club that I instruct at, Cordelia promotes her rescue or any trainer here gets business out of posting here. Re the dog and the timing. Yes why the OP didnt put this in the training section will be unknown, if it was in here I feel taht things for the dog could have been different. Its sad that noone took the initiative to cross post, or to offer help earlier when it wasnt to late. I dont think that anyone on this board has ever stoped appreciation of the help of the trainers and professionals that is offered here, including the people involved in the argument yesterday, but when either party is told something that is personally hurtfull or offensive things get heated and its clear that some people will preffer hurting other persons feeling, picking on small words instead of concentrating on the big picture. And this was the problem shown on both sides of the story..........
  9. yes. I train almost every day after work, but only once a day. I wish I was more organised and could do twice a day. I definitelly train on weekends couple of times a day.
  10. From Kaviks emial!!! Western Suburbs Dog Training Club. They train at Bressington Park, Homebush on 7:30 - 8:30ish Tuesday evenings Yesssssssssss, lets do it!!
  11. Erny - the OP said that the owners seeked advice from the vet and a pro. The 5 or 6 pages of the thread was about what should have been done, what could have been done etc, with no action from anyone. And I belive that the people that owned the dog took those actions already and made thir decision, so there was no "way" of telling them to get a second opinon as it woudl have cost them money and potentially confirmed what they have decided already. And a generous offer from K9, hopefully not too late. Topics in other sections get lost, not everyone reads them, no blame on anyone.
  12. The thread originated on the 7.12 someone has put the hand up to see the dog TODAY 13.12. I hope that OP tells us if the dog is alive and if it is where its located.
  13. I was cross posting in hope that someone in the area that the dog is would put the hand up to do an assesment. And I hope the dog is still alive, of course.
  14. I hope Cosmolo that you can go pass the personal remarks and see the big picture of the dog in need.
  15. Kisma - being an instructor I can see the point of people getting upset by another dogs ball. Picture a class of Ziggys and everyone with balls at the same time, half of them not focused enough and suddenly wanting other dogs toy. It can all be done, I encourage people to bring toys to my class and some do, I just give everyone more space. And I guess we will just have to join Kavik at her club........ at least we will be "cleiquey" enough to stand the ground on the weirdness of our ways. I refuse to do some excercises and I never had a prob with someone refusing to do something when I had a class. I trust people to know their dog better than I do.
  16. I work aprox 60 hours a week, some of it its at home. I wish I had more time to trainmy dogs......... I try to train daily, once a day for about 30 minutes which isnt enough. Id say that my male has a very good recall even under big distractions. My puppy is certainly getting there, she has very good pack drive so its easier than it was with my male. she isnt trained enough to be put in the high distraction areas, where I have no doubt she would fail her recall. I often get asked at my ob club to show what can a dog do so I guess his recall is good enough to be used as a demo dog. And we are not talking about the recall from a sit stay.
  17. Ok lets get back to the canine terms, how do you show the dog when its doing something wrong?
  18. I do the restrained recall all the time than :D when I take people in class. You might see me in class, and I know about the equipement, what a shame, but hopefully I wont need anything else than a martingale by than. Email me the details pls Kavik and how about this lunch finally eventuating?? Should have done it today its Wednesday after all!
  19. seeing that most likely majority of experienced trainers reside in this section Im crossposting a thread from A Rescue section. http://forums.dogzonline.com.au/index.php?showtopic=83351 Although I dont think it mentiones where is the dog (or in fact if its still alive) I though Id give it a shot and maybe someone would be interested in helping the people and the dog.
  20. whats a restrained recall Kavik? I think I will join your club, themore you tell us about it the more I think I might benefit form attending some classes. Do they break for summer?
  21. How would it be counter productive? Ill put it in human terms for you. You drive a car and you go over a speed limit, you might get a fun adrenaline rush (drive satisfaction) Than you one day get your photo taken and get fined. Will you be slowing down next time you see a 24 hour speed camera? You still get to your destination, safe.
  22. A ball might not be viewed favourably in class as it distracts other dogs, so you need to be aware of this. Apart from the club where I instruct Im yet to find the club that would let me train the way I want. Each person has different methods, and you might not agree with them, I had to disagree with an instructor at the rottie club training last night, but I havent altered anything I was doing just becouse an instructor told me to do so. At Sutherland where I used to go there was a large variety of people with a variety of mathods, so youd get one week a clicker person an antoher day a chack chain correction person. But once you know what you want to do and you have the guts to refuse something or disagree than you will be fine. I go to class at my club for the distactions. If I instruct and I do stays I get my dog out of the car and do a stay as well. What stops me moving to the BM? distance from my place of employment, the cold weather, the lack of beaches near by........ and do you have a golf course next door that I cant train on every night? :D
  23. Cant say what happends in Springwood, but most of the training clubs I have been to have a handfull of people that train for competition levels. Hence I wouldnt call them a TRAILLING club. Yes its obiedience training the differences come into place that the pet owner that isnt interested in trailiing ithe dog doesnt care that the dog is sitting crooked next to the handler, that it drops the retrieving object at the handlers feet, that it drops on a sit stay (auto fail in the comp) Ob trials are about preciseness of excercises, especailly if you dont just want to pass but win some awards. I wish we lived closer we could go together.......
