Anyone For Agility In Sydney?
MonElite replied to Vickie's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I wont be able to make it during the day, if its that far. If it was in my area I could do the "work from home" and dash out for an our or two with no problems any time of the day. I dont need a fenced area. so if you can come my way than Im up for it, there is a big enough park with absolutly noone there near my house, its fenced off on three sides and it runs of ano through alley way hence no cars. Plenty of space, tap with water and we can always go back to my place if we need something. Let me know what you decide. Alternativelly I can do a Sunday. -

Id be up for it, depending where you will train. -
And a very good one at that

I have neve fed commercial krap. Got the puppy that came with a can of food and some buisquits and it just didnt make any sence to me AT ALL. How a dried bisquit can have ALL of the nutrition, be kept in a packet for months on end and taste great........ and if that is so where is the human equivalent?????

There is no more Encouragement trails, CCD replaced that. Aslo pls not akitaowner that dogs do stays off lead with other dogs - 1 meter apart.

Stolen Training Equipment
MonElite replied to Jeff Jones's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Well that limits the suspects than. The dog world is small, but "bite suit" world in Australia is really tiny. Ill take the law into my own hands if I see anything with Jones on it, no probs! -
Stolen Training Equipment

Makes you wonder if someone knew that you had the gear or some nutcase broke in and just took what was there. If the second option than WTF are they going to do with it????? Unless someone is into dog training in a serius way what will one do with a bite suit? -

Oh jelous now I wish I had 18 days of annual leave spare so I could go there with you........... -
size of about the cap for a pen. impossible to adjust in the dark Id say.
-
Not disputing the check chain injuries - Im sure you have seen plenty, but would you pls be so kind to number and describe the injuries that prong collars caused. How many people walked into the vet hospital with the dog on the prong collar during the 11 years?
-
innotek becouse of the shape and weight of the collar. plus if for two dogs the remote remembers each dogs lovel, no need to adjust each time
-
there are dogtras with 100 levels. My dog that is on a 2 on the innotek 15 level collar was at 18-20 on the dogtra.

I belive that there are two schools of the washing the dogs and I belive that you can "overwash" the dog. Of course my easy maintenence short haired dobes are nothing like your puppy in terms of coat, but I cant remember washing them that often. When my male was shown and he was being exhibited pretty much every weekend I still only washed him every 3-4 weeks. Right now he goes at least couple of months without a bath, in winter even longer. I do wipe him down with a wet towel occasionally. My puppy I think has been washed with shampoo so far maybe 3 times and she is 8 months old. And my dogs have a beautifull shinny coat, and dont smell much either.
-
Just out of interest how often do you wash him? He is 4.5 months old and you said you use a groomer, Im imagining you have been to the groomer few times....

sasjeep are you reading? This last two posts would be related to you IMHO. -
And even if you were Marion Jones that would mean about 6 seconds later.
-
yes of course. but if you make the dog anticipate the correction and not have the element of suprise it wont work. Also why on earth would you want a dog anticipating correction all the time - wouldnt it be counterproductive?

Obedience Training Before Show Training?
MonElite replied to OZ Grooming World's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Its not the walfare of the dog, Im sure you will provide a wonderfull home, but how will you train three young puppies? Do you work? If they play together they will want to play with each other, rather than with you.............. As for showing - the best age for the dog to win in the ring is probably between 2 and 4 years of age, but they need to be trained how to behave in the ring. My pupps first show was at about 4 months old. -
But corrections arent about the dog anticipating them.... a good correction is all about surprise.

Obedience Training Before Show Training?

Tony I recmend that you start with Triangle of tempatation (pinned subject here by K9) May I ask why do you want 3 very young dogs? That is a difficult thing to manage, two will be a handfull, 3 - I wouldnt......... -
Are these people show people? People that know how the show dog shuld look like? As a start - is your dog on main register? Does your breeder think he is a very good example of the breed? Do you realise that if you are to have a stud dog you will most likely have to show him enough to become a Champion? Do you know what it takes for you and the dog to do that? Is a the show scene something that appeals to you? By no means Im trying to put you off showing, I show myself and I have an entire stud male. Im not sure if I will again have an entire stud tho, at times it isnt easy. Re teething - my 8 month old dobie girl has had her adult teeth for at least two months now.

I feed my dobes raw fish about once a week/once a fortnight. Usually pilchards or makrel or whatever OH catches. They like it, and they eat the whole fish with scales, bones and guts.

Obedience Training Before Show Training?
MonElite replied to OZ Grooming World's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Tony Ill answer your pm to me in here, the info might be usefull for other people as well. Most obiedience clubs close for summer, the Peakhurst club where I instruct goes back first week of March, I think the Sutherland club might be starting in Feb same with Centenial Park (not sure, ahvent been there for ages) As for the show training I sugest you contact Luci Ellem, she advertises in the Canine Journal. If you are not a member of Dogs NSW you will need to become one if you want to show your puppy. Also contact the Border Collie club, they might as well have show classes at Erskine Park ( the main Canine activities complex) I ahve attended couple of classes with the Rottie club there and seen that kattle dog club had their training on the same night. rottie club takes other breeds as well, and wednesday and reddog21 will give you all the info you will need about taht. From memory they start again on the 12.01.07 7pm show training 7.30 obiedience training. Kavik was telling me about her club at Homebush - Im considering going there as well as they open back a lot earlier than Peakhurst. The Peakhurst club is targeting pet owners that want a well behaved dog, we teach walking on loose lead, recall and basic other comands, there are 5 levels and you progress at your own pace, you are given a set of instructions to follow at home and its up to you what you put in and how fast or how slow you progress through the classes. Few instructors there also trial their dogs so if you ever what to trail the dog they will be able to direct you a bit as well. I think Im the only one that shows my dog, so you can ask me questions as well, but Im a pretty hopeless show handler and need improvements myself. You also have an option of getting some lessons from prefessional trainers such as K9 Force that is a memeber of this board, or Steve Austin at Harnob. I have never been to Harnob so cant tell you about personal experiences. but form what I understand they run group classes there no idea who actially takes the class. All of the above varies significantly in price and, what usually goes with, it quality of service. Alternativelly if you are a nice guy you can come over to my place - my friend and I will be training weekly most likely on Tuesdays. We both have dobes. Also sasjeep (with GSD) was looking for some partners in crime of dog training, so maybe we can form our own self sufficient tiny "club" for the summer and maybe beyond. Jsut dont make me a president pls :D I am a bit puzzled tho at your other post where you ask about info re becoming a dog trainer, do you mean becoming a trainer for your own dog or doing some work with other peoples dogs?
