Anyone With Suggestions On
MonElite replied to Tunsafun Boxers's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Tunsa you need to get yourself to a club or get yourself some videos of training, describing over the net is too painfull. I give my dogs a break when I see they are off colour. The get breaks as at times I simply have no time to train them, but each day, several times a day they are asked to do simple things, such as sit before I open the door, or down stay when Im eating. They are walked each day and given recalls during the walk few times, for no reason other than reinforcement of training. And majority of my comands are verbal+hand signaled -

Tunsa - think for a sec. How long does it take you to do 5 repetitions of a stand comand? 1 minute? You do that twice a day so thats is 2 minutes in a 24 hour period. So if this is the only thing you work on what is she learning for 23 hours and 58 minutes in that period? yes keep the sessions short and dont get her bored with it. Its not some magic number of repetitions its how the dog reacts and when you see it really interested or start to see it loose interest. When I was teaching a recall Id do 20 repetition, have a break of a play and than do another 10, but this is one of my dogs, and it varied each day. I also observed how the dog reacted and if it wasnt interested and I couldnt get it interested I didnt train during that session at all. I personally think that you need to find what motivates her and what demotivates her and untill you do that you will be pushing *** up the hill so to speak, with any excercise that is. -

you can do more than 5 repetitions in a session and more sessions in a day. it only should take you 2 minutes each. -

teaching the word first is the key - its possible that she understands hand signal before she gets the hang of the word. But if in two days the dog didnt get the understanding of the word Id say you are doing something wrong. How many repeptitions did you do? -
If you are going to plant them in soil make sure the dog does doesnt see you do it, as they like to copy the owners and will dig the plants out. I also suggest that you spend more time "entertaining" her, on walks or at home so plants will be boring comparying to playing the you.

It looks like he is int eh first fear impact period and I wouldnt have him with older dogs now with no supervision in case one has a go just this little bit too much. It can frighten the puppy for life and you will be on your way to creating a dog agro dog. Keep him separate or if with another dog than under supervision.

Sorry Tunsa - I need a bit of clarification. When you come back from the triangle or an up and back and you supposed to free stack the dog so the judge can look at it standing naturally what do you do? Surly you dont put your hand under her belly to make her stand. If you watch this video the first run is ended with the stand and the judge examines the dog. I understand that if your dog sits you would put the hand under the belly to prevent it from sitting, but than after the triangle the dog freestands, and the handler faces the dog, what do you do than.Btw I did teach the dog to stand as a movement from a sit or a drop so the dog understands the change of position. If it was to do an auto sit Id hold the outside flank slighlty when it was to sit. -
Easy done Ill cook, is that of any motivation?

Ill have a look at the titles of the videos PAX and we'll see if they are the same. Or better still I could bring them to your place and we can watch them together and than discuss. Uppsss did I just invite myself AGAIN? jbbb my grin was nothing like your gring but yes I was very happy with her performance, not only in the ring but in the pavilion, with the crowd, outside with the milions of kids and the roller coasters. OH yeah and she still barks at the neighbour. He has been invited over to our house and she was fine with him, but behind the fence he is an enemy But also he is a lot better with her I think, and havent cought him doing anything stupid.

Yes I like the videos, more than the arms I must say. Very informative. The jumping around is quite funny, I had looked at a video of myslef from the Royal and I noticed I jumped a bit like him at the end I hope its not a side effect of me watching him I've got two - one is his theory/ basic and the other is sit, drop, and heel. I havent finished watching them and will watch few times before I can start discussing. Interesting about one toy instead of two, tho. What do you ladies think?

how do you get her to stand in the show ring? -
Pax and LL - next one on the agenda is heeling. Currently she is just pure hopeless, or more Im hopeless. Well ok - she is ok but "at home" and not good at new grounds. We failed heeling in the trial, but I was allowed to continue the excercises. Perfect stand for exam, nice fast recall with a bit crooked sit, but nothing major, sit stay very good until some bug bit her on the ear (I had seen it) and she scratched and got up but not moved from the spot, perfect drop stay with two dogs next to her getting up and one walking off. So you know I have got Ivan Balabanov's (sp) ivdeos - I can now compare notes about his arms wih you

Im digging this thread out to give an update for those interested. For those not interested, hit the back button and read another thread. The problem seems to be fixed to the acceptable standard. We have just finished 3 days of showing and had an obedience trial. I was dreading this weekend and was fearing that there will be dramas but out of 3 shows 2 were with male judges, both of them big and "threatning" looking one wearing a huge cowboy hat. No issues in the show ring, although she was a bit reluctant to show the teeth to the one with the hat, so I did it for him. her tail never went down and she free stacks and lets judges go over her. We were in ob trial, and although we failed she did a perfect stand for exam for a female judge. We were at the Royal yesterday and I think about 500 people petted her, I guess she just gave up ;)

Nice Kavik. I think the videos get out os sync when the resolution is too high. Try Dr Dvix (free from the net) to reduce the size of the file before you upload it, or try the smallest resolution on your camera. I do it in Dr Dvix.

Outstanding Training Day Opportunity
MonElite replied to Lablover's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Oh no... I would love to be there, but how do I clone myslef?????? So many things on that one particular day that I want to attend. So far there are 4 things that I consider "must go to that one". And so inexpensive. Will you do another one at some stage? -
My friends own a lovely boxer. He, of course jumps on people. He jumped on me and I stuck my knee out to protect myself from his claws on my very expensive dress. Not only I was pronounced cruel but when asked why didnt they train him not to jump at people I was told that they like him "natural". Later that evening jumped up on the table and stolen food from the table......... Than when they were actually feeding him him dried food dinner I asked why dont they feed natural?

"obnoxious Toad" Stage Of Development?
MonElite replied to Griffo's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I dont think it only applies to the dog at that age, although probably more so. My Rex thats over 7yo has recently started to see if "for sure" he isnt allowed to do certain things. Additedly I had slacken off on him as he has been limping very badly recently, so I "mummied" him a bit, and now he expects me to allow him things daily that were very rare privilidges in the past. -

I didnt think she would do you? Rethink your corrections and rewards, along with timing.
