  1. can you scan it pls, or take a photograph of it, Im not going to be buying a book.......
  2. You have made a choice of never using any form of punishment for bad behaviour but you always keep the dog on a lead. I made a choice that I do use some forms of punishement and my dogs get the freedom of running off lead. I will never regret my choice as seeing my dogs enjoy their free run is all aobut their quality of life that I am able to provide them with. On the same note - some people will chose not to ever walk their dogs as they pull so much, and some will get the prong collar and take the dog out for a walk. I know what would I choose.
  3. And there is no pain with the sporn harness? Contless people in this thread and many other threads said that they have put the prong collar on themselves and there is no pain.... Perhaps you dont know how to use the collar correctly? Its the same in Poland where I come from. I wish it was the case in Australia as well.
  4. I have been toold stories than... However I noticed that the next trial in QLD offers along the BH and IPO I-IIIsome levels such as FH I-II, TR 1-3, OB 1-3, isnt it titles for parts of the IPO? First pdf on this website http://www.sportdogaustralia.com/events/events.htm#Trials
  5. isnt it that in IPO you can gain titles for certain parts such as tracking or obedience where in Sch you had to do all 3 to get the titles?
  6. Its great Anissa for someone like you it works wonders. What do you suggest for someone that has no idea about dog training and has a fully grown up dog with multiple behavioural issues?
  7. not for Angel that also makes her own mud
  8. I must say tho, that the club I belong to has a lot of those qualities Utopia has.
  9. I will be joining Utopia when I move up your way PAX.
  10. Show people also often put their foot under the dogs belly when they stand in front when the dogs is sitting in the ring. PAX - no doubt - our dogs are the best
  11. I think some also have the dog in the sit and just crowd the dog from the front making it to stand to move away. PAX, I think Chill is taller than Angel, or maybe I forgot how small Chill is... But regardless of that I find this a bit of a problem when the dog has been tought to drop from the sit by luring with food, they immieditelly go to the drop instead of the stand. I have to GRs and a dobe in class all young puppies and they just drop the moment the handler lowers the hand below the chin. All tought to drop from a sit by luring with food. Ruthless has been shown however what to do :D and I have faith in her
  12. PAX thanks to you I have tought my Divani to stand like that. But I have found a problem with other peoples dog to be able to teach them like that, if the dog has been tought to drop from a sit, the moment you put the hand under their head they drop and with Ruthless's staffy its even more difficult as the dog is short. But ruthless I think you need to teach the dogs the stand comand, I dont think Angel understands it fully, if she does she should be doing a stand from the drop from sit etc. the stand for exam in class we do more to get the dogs used to people aproaching them and touching them, as you know some of those in the class have issues with it. I belive your dog once it learns the comand of stand will do a stnd for exam with no problems, right now Angel just loves me
  13. Off topic - what are the traditional methods? Why do you think that the positive reinforcement methods work slower?
  14. I know!!! Maybe you should have couple of drinks before each class, perhaps this will relax you
  15. Yes, I nearly adopted Angel yesterday - well I was nearly forced to adopt her Poor ruthless got frustrated yesterday, no need, its not helping you or her. She is lovely dog and you just need to be something a lot more interesting, instead of being that thing at the end of the lead that occasionally feeds her And she did everything for me, I guess this was frustrating for you. Be a clown - she loves this.
  16. Gowd - a young puppy protecting you and your son. Id change the classes - its obvius these people dont know what they are talking about. The puppy is most likely affraid and protecting itself from strange dogs.
  17. I ahve just started it with my girl and it seems its her mission in life so I might continue, although those early mornings scare me... I do a bit of heavy foot stomping and food in my steps for now and a bit more food at the end of the track. The girl thinks its the best thing she can do in her life and I need to learn a bit more about tracking as she is well ahead of me. I have trouble slowing her down on the track. Must read/watch/learn more about the sport. I was never interested in it, but now seeing how much my dog enjoysit I will learn more about it.
  18. There are classes at Centenial park - but they are on Sundays. Alternativelly you can come to Peakhurst on Saturdays afternoons. There is one in Homebush - Kavik knows the details or there is mid week at Concord from memory.
  19. also what does the dog focus on if the handler is out of sight - the last spot the handler went to when in sight?
  20. Not much changed at my club, I ahve been there for about 6 years. we used motivators - toys and food when I started. I guess we now teach more things that people want to know - such as walking on loose lead instead of heeling, more behavioural fixing things instead of large heeling block for no particular reason. But not that much has changed. We had and continue to have fun with our dogs. Also more people are interested in trialing than couple of years ago.
  21. My dogss eat about 1kg of food a day each, maybe a bit more than that. I get 10kg of chicken frames from a chinese butcher for $3 or $4 if I go to another butcher I pay $2.00/kg for chicken necks $2.00/kg lamb flaps $1.00/kg lamb/beef spine bones $2.00/kg pork bones $3.50/kg turkey necks $3.50/kg human grade individualy frozen sardines - they come in a 15kg box I buy beef off cuts for a $1.00/kg - no bone and mince it myslef $1.20/kg for a chicken frame mince liver - pork or lamb about $2.00/kg vegies - the same what I eat, eggs free range - the same what I eat. yoghurt greek style from Aldi - the same what I eat. Vitamines, additives etc, all from online shops. Frankfurts from Aldi - for training. Id say it costs me about $40 a week for two dobes, that includes vitamines and treats. Occasionally I buy a scottys roll - pro peak for $6.50 each it goes in one go between two dogs.
  22. Few wyears ago two of my friends that had dobes went to train at the sch club. They were signed up as "trial" memebers for 8 weeks. The club trains twice a week and they went to training twice a week for 8 weeks. It gave the club a chance to asses the potential new memmbers, and hte new people to asses the club and to decide if they want to continue. So I guess if there was a "cowboy" it would show in the 8 weeks that the person isnt suitable to become a member.
