  1. I give my dogs Missing Link and fish oil capsules. Occasionally a multi vitamin tablet.
  2. This is where you are WRONG. Start your research on that subject, I suggest.
  3. Im off now to the shop to see if they got one, thanks
  4. On that note - wondering if the dogs than perceives the reward as being far from the owner, therefore not "sticking" with the owner? Somewhat as throwing the reward away. Thoughts?? I use mosly frankfurts, and cooked liver for the showring. My dogs will give the rest of their tail for the liver, and I havent yet met a dog that doesnt like it. I seem to be always choppings stuff into smal squares, does anyone have some kind of a food processor that will do nice little squares?
  5. If you are doing this I suggest you do some reasearch into physio papers and how does the TENS machine works and what is the effect of it on muscles, ligaments, human brain activity and so on. What are the results of the prolonged use on low or medium stimuli, which is below the pain threshold level. The outpt current of the ecollar is the same as the TENS. Good luck
  6. How are you reserching the ecollars and prong collars pinnacle dts?
  7. I agree that for the owner its impossible to take away the emotional attachement to the dog, but the person that said it didnt have the attachement. IloveFlatCoats - what would you be doing if you had Am...'s dog? Theoretically that is. Seek skills, rehome the dog?
  8. going off topic on this. What would you say if a dog had a medical condition? A serious one. PTS or give it some kind of life? I guess Im asking as my friends boxer bitch that is 4yo has had a cacerous lump removed and they are waiting for results, but the vet said if its "bad" she might need chemotherapy.
  9. Someone I spoke to recently said - why bother saving a dog with serious issues like human agression, put it to sleep and get one with no issues. Apart from the emotional problem the owner might have what do you people think about this statement?
  10. kinda is but kinda isnt Imagine that the dog is human agressive - Im wondering if people would persue training to get to the manageable happy level and consider this a cure? Would that be a cure?
  11. For your goal - so if you walk him and a dog runs up to his face and your dog ignores them, you dont consider this a cure?
  12. So did I Am.. So do you belive that there is a hope for his full rehabilitation and cure, to the point that you will be able to take him off lead in a large group of dogs and let him mingle? and lets add a toy amongst this for the difficulty
  13. Im no expert and I always thought the licking of the lips is a sign of nervousness. However I dont think its the case with your dog LL. My dogs often dot he chomp of the mouth when I say are you ready?
  14. Someone I know had recently put a dog to sleep for agression. This person gave A LOT to the dog, and in my opinion made the right decision. the dog was lovely, good looking with few issues, but large breed and if this dog did something the consequences would have been tragic. A behaviourist that the person contacted originally said its possible to cure the dog, the owner did a lot of work with the dog, with very little results. Im not sure if thats the case but potentially the ongoing costs of the behavioursts help was an issue. Perhaps for someone that is a trainer or behaviourist this dog was curable, for the owner it wasnt. I admire the owner for making this decision I know the dog was loved, but as poodlefan said - no dog is worth risking human wellbeing.
  15. K9: so you havent given up then.... I own two dogs.... and might own more in the future.
  16. I wont be discussing this anywhere else with you either. I admire the dedication of people that are willing to travel to other states to seek advice of a reputable trainers. Good on you guys. I woould love to hear sucess stories of people that had serious problems and overcame them to the extend beyond their hopes. If anyone knows of anyone good in Sydney (other than K9) can you pls pm me the details.
  17. Rex has achieved a good recall. I havent had any other problems with him. You arent willing to help me fix it, so yes I gave up.
  18. OP and LL asked for stories, I gave mine. I have one sucess and one faliure of achieving what I wanted with my dogs. When I orignially seeked help for Rexs problems I was hoping that I will be able to let my dog off lead with other off lead dogs, I didnt achieve it for whatever reasons. Mainly becouse I couldnt find non reactive dogs in the numbers you recomended - which was minimum two a week. And that was to do the on lead work, before progressing further. I guess you will not get the opportunity to guide me in that work - from memory Im no longer welcome at anything you organise. Rex is nearly 8 years old, he has a wonderfull life and few friends that he socialises with, I have given up on the idea of walking him with other off lead dogs, stress free, years ago. My orignial goals will never be achieved, I have changed my life to accomodate his needs and he seems happy with what I can provide for him.
  19. K9 relax - it looks as if you took my post as an attack on services. It wasnt. Everyone here know that I have been and still am recomending you no end. Why would I continue going to you for advice if I didnt belive that achieving something was possible.... How did the lesson with my friends dog that attacked Rex at lure coursing went? Hopefully this will be another sucess story. My main problem with following advice given to me was finding people and dogs that I could work with. I couldnt find many (if any) with entire male dogs that were non reactive. Therefore even the best advice was for me impossible to conduct. I did achieve a lot of control with the dog, mainly a very good recall, but the fact remains that my dog was and is male dog agressive. He is absolutly fine with the dogs he knows, if I meet a desexed male and the person is willing to give me some time to introduce the dogs properly than he is also fine, but there is no way I would attempt this with an entire male dogs.
  20. Well I kinda have one of each. Not seriously at all but enough to cause headaches. Rex is dog agro, I have spend countless hours at K9s workshops and had few private lessons, I have spend countless hours trying to implement the stuff but unfortunatelly Rex still doesnt like nor accepts other male dogs and he someitmes might not like a female as well. I have a better control of him and just dont put him in the "hot" situations, but I cant say that he is cured in any way. I think he now avoids the situations as well, but if he wasnt under strick control there is no way Id trust him to run up to an unknown dog and Divani - she isnt agressive she is extremly aloof and I scared of man, but I have persisted with her training and making any encounter with a male a positive experience. She at shows accepts the thorought examination by any male, with no reaction. (you might recall I had dramas a while ago) If she meets a new male she might avoid him touching her, but once she meets someone (given time and being ignored) she is ok and accepting of them. I dont think she will ever be willing to run up to a male and say hello on her own, but that aslo isnt my aim, Im happy for her not to go to people, but accept them when I say so.
  21. I wouldnt recomend any of them, in fact would say stay clear of them. Why dont you join a local obedience club so that you learn how to train the dog and you do it yourself?
  22. So anyone that is holding a kong on a string and is playing tug with their maltese can get a dangerous warning for it, by the looks of it....
