Thinking About My Next Breed... Shortlist Now Chosen!
MonElite replied to kiwifeathers's topic in General Dog Discussion
even a dobermann fits the criteria. But Im biased. -
There are couple of photos of a worn Ruthless Leather collar on my webpage. That dog lives on a farm, and wears it all the time. Swims in it and runs through bush. In the pics the buckle is a bit undone as I took it off to look at the collar and didnt put it on back correctly MonElite Dobermanns

My question is - how is it going to be policed? This could be a great job creation scheme LOL as it might need an army of people to do all the checking of paperwork! And wait - the breeders will have to pay for it, licence fee and inspection fees, courses, paperwork, there will be requirements that an inspector must be able to park their car within a certain distance of the premises, there will be requirements for desinfection, record keeping for water treatment. I could go on and on......... Thats on top of the vet piece.
-
This could be read as that you are not allowed to feed natural diet. And if your vet is not pro raw you are screwed. So if they tell you to feed 3 cups of dried food and your dog puts on weight you cant really limit the food, right? And it will only be changed when you get your 6monthly inspection from the vet? I might be wrong, there was so much of it that Ive now forgotten some of the completly rediculous things in there. And yeah - I must have my carpets shampooed every 6 months if my dogs come inside.
-
Under this proposed rediculous thing, what would happen to those that have an oops litter of couple of their own some kind of dogs? Just a randon family that had some random non specific dogs. Non pedigree, non working, every day pets.

It took me good 45 minutes to write the responce and the website didnt accept it and kicked me out. I will try again, but most people would ahve given up by now.

I also have colour coded collars. In the past I had a ribbon/string with a little plastic thing on it with a number. Nuber was the order they were born. One colour of ribbon for boys one for girls. But after my pups are microchipped (and if I cant tell them appart, which would be rare) they get tattooed. And I remove their collars. This helps me in just watching them and not being biased, just looking for the best looking puppy regardless of what colour collar it might have been. As when they have the collars there might be a puppy that always comes up and its in my face all the time so I remember the colour. With no collars I look at them and if I want to know whic one it is I need to look at the tattoo in the ear.

Feeding Staffords Sardines
MonElite replied to pickles_chester's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
My dogs and puppies I raise all get sardines. Usually fresh or frozen. Sometimes canned makrel Sometimes fresh whitting or ribbon fish. or salmon head and spines. When I feed the whole fish its heads, scales, fins and guts, the works. All raw and they love it. And prawn heads when we have prawns. Always super shiny coats -
Really? And what about those like myself? Where English is their second language? I happen to speak very good English, but I know a breeder that doesnt.

Congratulations on the pups what sex were they ? 5 boys, rest were girls

Best name Ive heard for a Whippet was Whooshka. As a child my boyfriend had a chi named Chucky, because it threw up on him on the way home from the breeders. And now we have a puppy in our litter that we call Stich, thats because he had to get a stitch for umbillical hernia.

I keep repeating that there is a possibility of environmental factors that contribute to wobblers. So maybe your girl got it, and her sister didnt. Becuase maybe your dog walked on polished floor board or slipper tiles, or lots of stairs, or was doing a lot of jumping, or whatever it could be. And was more prone to it than a sibbling. If all dogs in the litter got it at the same age you would want to question it. My dog got it as well when he was about 8.5. One of his sons is alive and well at over 10 and doesnt have it. Another alive and well at 9 and doesnt have it. Daughter - dead now from cancer, never had wobblers. These are all from differnet litters BTW. If there is a test available its good to test, but for most deseases there is no test, so how can anyone guarantee that years down the track the dog will not get it?
-
And you are a dobermann owner should know that Wobblers isnt provent to be genetic. That there is no test for it and that there are high chances of it that environmental factors play a big role in its developement. So all in all you can not blame the breeder entirely, as they most likely trully didnt know. Where was your dog from?

I don't breed dogs as a business and never intend to. I work full time to earn my money. And I think when someone breeds for profit there is potential of missing some of the most important aspects of bringing puppies up, or/and carying for adults
-
Why? Variety of reasons You know the dream of creating the "perfect" dog? I'd like to think that I positivelly contribute to the breed. Id like to think that I posittivelly contribute to peoples lifes when they get a puppy from me. And I, formost, breed a dog for myself. As to the hard sell - I think you have missed the point of my original post completly. Id love to have a smooth sailing litter, with 7-8 puppies, with no issues. I didnt. And I said that those hard moments I would love to outsource to someone. I would than possibly be able to charge the $100 for the puppies. The point was that I had a "tyre kicker" call up ask for a price of a puppy, when I told him, he said - but Ive seen one in xyz place for x price wich was $100 less than mine. Great - go and buy one there!
-
I do all that. I thought that this part of my advertisement covers it Our puppies are brought up in a family environment, they're extensivelly socialised with a variety of people, children, taken for car rides and fed a natural diet.
-
What are you charging per hour for your time? I don't think I could ever afford a puppy from someone who charges for the time they spend on them as well as covering inputs and overheads. The point is not to break even or make a profit, right? Then it's different to hairdressing. Are you talking about breaking even on the particular litter or breaking even on the breeding overal? Because when its on the breeding overal I have some pretty big expences......... Larger property than standard so that dogs would have more room to run, far away from where I work, so lots of fuel and time to get to work on daily basis. Bigger car than what I'd have if I had one dog as a pet. Show and trial entries and travel to and from them so that my breeding dogs can have some titles to their names. Number of crates, dog beds, training equipement, seminar attendance, books, DVDs, dog toys, LOTS and LOTS of dog food. Now - I had a bitch returned to me from one of the previous litters - she doesnt get on with the others. So I had to build a fence to keep her separated, thats $2000. She has a contact alery to something in my grass , maybe wondering dew. That is vet visits, spray of all sorts of weeds in the garden. None of that would be done if I never bred her in the first place. I could go on and on on what expences I incur, and trust me, there is no breaking even on all of that. Thats not counting my time AT ALL. Yes the point of breeding is to produce dogs that are a continuous improvement of the breed, not to make money. But until I win lotto and can afford all of the things I want for my dogs, I will be charging for puppies. And because I probably provide more service with the puppy than most breeders, I will be charging premium prices.

I told them that the male (they wanted a male) will be about 70-72 cm tall at the wither and as an adult will be about 45kg. It's a bit sad, they really sounded like a great home. Now that I know what is advertised, there are very few pups around. If they will want to meet the dogs they will have to travel to other breeders hundereds of km. Or will end up buying a BYB pup with no papers.
-
That is part of my advertisement Both dogs have been extensively tested and all puppies will be DNA negative for DCM (cardio) by parentage. No puppy from this litter will be vWD affected. Puppies from this litter are expected to be very substantial and strong, with beautiful, powerful looking heads. Our puppies are brought up in a family environment, they're extensivelly socialised with a variety of people, children, taken for car rides and fed a natural diet. These puppies will be great show and obedience prospects, and of course fantastic companions and family members. Purchasing a puppy from us you'll be provided with a life time of support for your dog and a fantastic puppy pack. But seriously - when people get their pup at 8 weeks, how much socialisation would they expect? The pups get vaccinated at 6-7 weeks, shouldnt be going anywhere as they are not immune. They dont really interact much till they are about 5 weeks old, so how much can be done in the 3 weeks? Considering that its not one pup but the whole litter, and they should not be leaving the breeders premises. What are peoples expectations?

I send photos of proud mum with puppies. I can even take a video if there is a need. I have had about 30 enquiries so far. Just imagine 30 couples, some with kids coming on a weekend (probably every weekend) to see mum and pups. :) I guess Im getting so many enquiries as right now (advertised on DOL where I get most of my enquiries from) there is myself and another breeder in Sydney metro area that has puppies. Thank you! Thats exactly right. She barked at my partners Mum when she came over few days ago, and she has met her before. Imagine what would go on with strangers. This particular buyer asked if they can see the dogs, as the husband never owned a dobe and they just want to see if the size of the dog is right for them. I said that I don't let people come over until pups are 6-7 weeks old. And that I don't own the sire, however if they want to meet him, he is being shown on the weekend and they can meet him there. But I wont be at the show as I'm home with the puppies 200km away from the show. Now I'm thinking - you are enquiring about buying a dobermann and you dont know if the size of the dog is right for you? Im guessing there was little research done prior to contacting me. I actually really liked the original enquiry and was more than happy to sell them a dog. They sounded like a great home for one of my puppies.
