  1. What does she do when inside? What do you do when she is inside? How long have you had her inside bouncing off the walls? Gotta love a 81/2 month dobie :D
  2. I dont recall anyone saying that brining the dog inside will solve the problem. I do belive this could help in solving the problem. I also belive that given two short sentences all "advice" we write here is based on speculations and assumptions.
  3. Define a typical dog owner. I think that DOLers are not very typical of dog owners, we give our dogs a lot more attention than an average owner. A "typical" person that works and has a family and doesnt allow the dog inside could also do this. - Leave for work at 8am throwing a bone out to the yard for the dog to chew on, back home at 6-7pm, help the kids do the homework, cook dinner, put the kids to bed, shove the dogs food bowl outside giving it a pet on the head. Oh they might throw a ball for it for 5 times. Especially when its winter time and its raining...... And they take the dog for a walk round the block 3 times a week for lets say 30 minutes. To me that is solitary confindement of a dog, doesnt matter that the yard is 400m2. I guess it depends on the dog, I can assure you that my Rex doent have to spend any time doing any quality things to be satisfied, he just wants to be with me. yes he loves the walks, he loves the ball, he loves the park, but I cant see him being unhappy when I dont do any of this with him. And I know dozens of dogs like this.
  4. This is not to say that there is a place for SOME dogs to only get quality time and not quantity. Most of the working dogs (Police, Military) are trained (given full training/attention etc) and than confined alone. this ensures that when they are out and about they give 100% of the effort to the handler, as all the drives satisfaction comes from the handler and they strive for it. So I understand that some dogs are brought up/kept that way but Id say most of use here have pets, not service dogs. ETA - some people make a mistake of getting a second dog to keep the first one company. Where I agree that it does solve a bit of the problem it can also create more problems. Two bored dogs left alone can also occupy themselves with major destruction.
  5. Im not very patient - its my biggest drawback, but! I never give up. I have a "need" for constant improveemnt, for furhter education of myslf. I like to learn from experts and compare their methods than work out whats best for me and my dogs. I have an open mind and Im not affraid to use different methods or pieces of equipement. Im also able to see the limitations of my dogs, but as I pretty much never give up Ill try to overcome the weaknesses they have.
  6. I disagree with the above statement. 30-60 minutes of full on work and than 23 hours alone (in solitary confindenent) versus 10 hours alone when owners are at work and the rest with the human pack. I know what Id preffer... and what is giving more pack time. Note - this is not to say that eveyone that has the dogs inside gives them proper attention.
  7. I attended one in Sydney and it confirmed what my thoughts were of her.
  8. You could also try the Brisbane IPO club, from what I understand there are experienced trainers in there they might possibly know of a person they can recommend.
  9. I use it all the time in my dgos food, not over kibble as I dont feed comercial food, but over their veg and mice mix. They love it, never had a problem with loose stools after it.
  10. I think she is self tought. She sells her stuff at Gleba markets in Sydney, mostly belts and journals. Dog collars to order and all other leather gear to order, she made a leather agitation harness for a IPO for my friends dobie couple of years ago. I have got a doggie belly belt for tracking on order, might pick it up tonight actually..
  11. I get excited talking about the stuff she makes, Im a big advocate of her products, and several people here have contacted her and own her products, never heard anyone complain. Her stuff is really good, made of high quality bridal leather. Clips/backles she will put stainless steel, she used to put chrome ones , but now found a supplier of a better quality stuff. Or you can have brass if you preffer. Show leads (I wont miss out on the opportunity to put a pic of one of my dobies  _) here is Baby Divani with her plaited lead and collar set
  12. All made to order and to your measurements Cazz. The only thing she cant get is those chains for maringales, but buckles, studs, clips etc she has a wide variety of. She made me a leash for Rex when we first met that is 4 years ago, I absolutly LOVE it, use it every day, its been in the sand, salty water etc and its just perfect. She has made me plaited show collars and leads, normal leather collars etc. Not to mention belts and other leather stuff. Some of the belts/collars she makes have the leather "engraved" you know what I mean - with patterns on it pressed into the leather.
  13. Ill pm you her emial addy, than you can sort it out between yourselves LOL Just a note - I had a martingale that I was happy with , might have been rogz as well actually, and yes I was lazy as well and it used to anoy me to adjust the buckle each time so I have designed this collar myself and asked the friend to make it. She made a couple for me to test and we tested diferent buckles (convex v's concave) and the positioning of the buckle in relation to the chain etc. the one in the pic isnt actually mine it belongs to another DOLer that has spoted one on my Divani and said - OMG what a great idea, Im sick of the buckle adjusting And so she got some done for all her dogs
  14. if you have an existing martingale collar or can get one el cheapo from a shop a friend of mine will make you this She is in Sydney and it will cost you about $25 or so - Id have to check. Let me know if you are interested.
  15. Its feeding your dog RAW foods. No processed stuff, but bones, meats, raw vegies etc.
  16. simmilar experiences here patch. I was talking about a beef brisket or a large part of the beef spine.
  17. I must say that what occupies my dogs the longest is a goo'ol meaty bone.
  18. My dogs were not really ever interested in the kong as the stuffed toy to play with while Im out, but I do use one as a reward in training. I have two kongs (one 7 year old and one about 4-5 year old) the 7yo still in tact but the rubber is starting to crack, no wonder - it was out in the sun often. The 5yo - use it all the time in training. Its harder than it orignially was but still VERY good. Both have deep teeth marks of course. I had to, of course, replace the strings they were on as the dogs on occasion would pull it off the string. I also own two orbee balls. They are nicer looking things, smelled good at first. After about one year they are still as soft as they were orginally but the decorations on them peels off and one got ripped when the dog pulled on it. Dogs still like them and they are still useable, but one will go in no time as it will rip apart at the next pull. So all in all - in my experience kongs are more durable. ETA - I have also used the normal rubber balls, from Kmart, the $5 type things. They didnt last at all, and rubber cracked after about a year. And they had a yucky smell to them. Dogs still like to chase them anyway
  19. I know nothing about greyhound racing, What does breaking in involve?
  20. Try less veg stuff inthe mix, or add a bit of chicken stock into the mix to make it a bit more tasty. Mine two struggle with the mix as well, I usually put something tasty into it as well, such as cheese, or sardines, or some of my leftovers. Gas - often the lamb ribs will cause this but in genenral BARF is a lot less gassy than the dried food. If I ever feed mine dried food I might as well evacuate the house its impossible to stay inside.
  21. if you have been doing it for 6 months with the frequency youstate, and keeping the dog crated at other times Id say that you are doing something really wrong or your dog doesnt have genetically enough drive. When you start playing with her dont you say something like "ready?" how does she know that she si to go into drive if you dont tell her? Im pretty sure this is covered in the Balabanov videos. do people at the IPO club say she has enough drive and nerve to do the work?
  22. How long have you been doing it? How do you do the excercises? for how long, how many times a day? Will the dog play with you willingly everywhere you take her? Will she play with another person? Do yo give a comand for the prey work? Oh and how about a video so we can all see what you are talking about. ps - im no IPO expert by any means, but I have seen/send several dogs to the IPO club and hardly any of them despite what the owners thought were drivey enough to do the work.
  23. Id love to do it, but my dog doesnt have enough drive for the bite work. She can however hang off a toy held by someone other than me. Do you belong to an IPO club, if you do what do they say?
  24. make the sessions short and stop when she is really interested. Dont push the puppy to do more than it can, it will just get bored with it. not every puppy from two show champions or grand champions is a show prospect let alone a guarateed future champion. Same with drives... IMHO if I had a child that was great in soccer and hopeless in piano I wouldnt push the piano lessons, Id do a lot of soccer.
