  1. You will have to put Angel in front of Divani and she can chase her than all day long
  2. no its lower back. I can get her to swim every day but the water she swims in is a bit iffy, its a storm water run off into a dam and I think its not doing any good for her coat. But its easy - she wil fetch a ball from the dam all day long if I let her. Or doG forbid I say - get the ducks
  3. I have done one with Rexy - thanks but no thanks. I nearly ended up with my arm in a sling after my ET with him ;) i can see myself getting her the booties for it too thanks, harness is a good idea
  4. My Divani has injured her back. Gary Barnsley said that she is too fat (well I know that ) and that she needs to strenghten some tendons in her lower back. she gets excercised fair bit, all off lead running and swimming, but when she runs free she mostly galops, where Gary advices me that she should be walking or trotting but PULLING ON LEAD I have trained her of course not to pull on lead. So now the question - how do I teach her to pull and how dont I undo the training I have done with her? And she is on a diet if anyone asks, right now she feels underprivilidged and very unhappy but oh boy does she love me whan I have any type of tood in my hand She used to have higher prey drive than food drive, now - toy? - forget it! where is my food? ;)
  5. most people would say - where and how do I learn about correct training in drive, as it looks like there is more to it than I originally thought. But you ducky............ oh no what would the friends at the barbie think of you if you told them someone had to show you how to correctly play with your dog.
  6. RAFF - Rude Active Freaky Fellows or RAFF - Reluctant Afraid False Friends or RAFF - Rounchy Absolutly Fabulous Females Feel free to choose from one of those. Mind you I have no idea who would they need a police type trained dog
  7. but you are tugging.... and that in itself can ve quite complicated, despite the fact that it looks so easy. already we have pointed out to you that your release from a very short description you provided is "not so good" How do you know that you are tugging right? not damaging the dogs neck, not damaging the teeth, starting and stopping at the right time. have you got a start and end word,? does your dog go into drive on command or on sight of the tug? Just some simple questions for you The number of people that come to the obedience club I instruct at with stuffed up dogs that have only been trained to sit is enormous..........
  8. Just an innocent question for you - how do you know that what you are doing/going to do for the next 6 months before you see a pro is the right thing to do? Imagine if its not and you are potentially stuffing the dog up.
  9. I have just read your post in the general section - well done for starting to reconsider. There are soooo many sports you can do with your dog! I want to do the bite work, the tracking, the obedience, the agility and I also show. I wish I had time to do all of them! Explore and you will find something suitable for you and your dog. Keep us posted, tho, thats a must on DOL.
  10. Nowhere. You are so smart but you failed to spot a bit of advice there......... if you would take the dog to the club there are people there that do the bite training and are knowledgeable in the area. But hey, what woudl your mates think if you went out to the club and got an opinion. For Free......... So no club, no professional, jsut book and itnernet sites. I wish you luck. Id love to see some video footage of your progress. you can at least pronounce it right, well done This and the comment of what you mates will think of you for doing flyball. Oh boy, Im trying to figure out if these are jokes in your whicked sence of humor or do you actually mean it
  11. So lets say - you think your child would be good in playing rugby. Your child is an artist by nature and doesnt like violence nor physical contact. Its a crap runner, wears glasses, and is tiny and thin for its age. Your child is bloody brilliant in playing piano. You make your child to play rugby? than when its covered in buises you take your kid to a rugby club only to be told by a coach that your kid is no good for rugby? And than you still insist on your kid playing rubgy? just for sport, becouse YOU like it? Sure - shame I will never be able to compete......... I am very familiar with the sport of schutzhund and I know whats involved. I also keep telling you that no club will take you to do the sport as you dont have the eligible breed. Countles people go to the dogsport club with their staffies, amstaffs, xbreeds. Hey who knows the club might even see a pointer there one day Plenty of dogs here love tugging and people use this motivator to teach dogs various things. Flyball people tug, retrieving people tug, agility people tug, obedince people tug, I tug and I mainly show my dog.
  12. ducky - nobody is saying that only certain breeds are capable of doing certain work. My dobermann has decided to herd my chooks, its quite funny. But would she excell as a herding dog - no, as she doesnt have enough herding instincts as oppose to a BC. I ask you again - you have never answered - HOW DO YOU KNOW THAT YOUR DOG HAS A SUITABLE TEMPEREAMENT TO BE TRAINED FOR PERSONAL PROTECTION?
  13. ;) or a dobe for earth dog comp Could lend him my female, but she is going to be a therapy dog since she is brilliant with people :D wondering are you planning on doing sledding with your koolie - I know you up for a challenge yoruself Pax
  14. one more question ducky - why dont you try challenging yourself in a sport that is more suitable for your dog - like retrieving trials? Lablover will be able to tell you how much work goes into that training and how "easy" the top levels are to achieve
  15. Hey ducky - perhaps you should see who has given you the Bingo reply .... use the www button under the persons name. the dogsport clubs wont take you as you dont have an eligible breed, but you can always make your way to Horsley Park and see what they say aobut your ideas. Just dont be surpised if they will tell you the same as eveyone here did.
  16. He wants a name of a company that sells gear for protection training I found that post funny as well, and i didnt drink Questions for ducky - why are you so agianst a professional advice?
  17. And how exctly will you be doing this f you let the dog on someone and the dog wont release??? so what are you doing? playing with the burglars or training for protection? or what???? Its official guys we do have a genious in the house
  18. When I think about it - if the dog is really willing to bite its actually not that hard to teach them to bite the sleeve. Its a lot harder to train them to release it when YOU want them to release. How did you go in that area ducky? was the dog releasing nicely? How was the hold and bark? Clean or dirty? where did you get the sleeve in the past to train the old dog? On another subject - how do you know that your dog is suitable for this type of training?? Seeing that 95% of dog are not.... how did you choose the puppy, what was your criteria? I ask again what breed have you got? not that the breed matters, Im just curious. Is is a cattle dog? or the cattle dog was the previus dog?
  19. ducky - what breed have you got again? what level of obedience does your dog have? how did you achieve this level? What does the breeder of your dog say about your chosen path of ""training"? Gosh - I show my dog, I can tell you that I was standing outside the ring when the breeder of my older dog was showing him FOR 4.5 YEARS. I was the master outside the ring handler. I knew absolutly everything about showing, ring craft, stacking the dogs etc. Oh you should have seen me in the ring first 20 times with my puppy - I cant recall one thing that I have done right. Imagine if this was training for personal protection!!!!!!!!!And I had the theoretical training for 4.5 years!!! ducky - dog traning is like dentistry, would you be putting a crown on your own tooth? After you have read in the book how to do it? Oh and Im guessing you would have seen couple of videos on the subject .... Exactly!!!
  20. I have made this analogy before so Ill make it again. My husband is a great fan of Moto GP and Superbike racing. I must have watched hundereds of races with him on TV. and I love Valentino Rossi. The number of bike books in my house exceedes the number of dog books. I have looked through all of them as well. But not untill I actually got a motor bike and DONE A COURSE held by professionals I was not able to ride a bike. and I will never be a female version of Valentino Rossi, no matter how many more races Ill see on TV.
  21. Oh I should clarify - I dont train my dogs in bite work, if that matters to you ducky. But I like to watch others do it. And will add that Id like to own everything on the Leerburg site, plus more.
  22. In no particular order Ivan Balabanov Godfrey Dildey (sp) some tracking dvd from the 70's - dont know by whom choosing a puppy for bite work Leerburg - raising a working puppy some private stuff filmed with Jens Kollenberg (sp) check leerburg site endless options there Lablover - although she is into retrieving is the educational material queen BUT at the end of the day they are "movies" Nothing beats a hands on training session, where a trainer shows you that your shoulders are not doing what they supposed to be doing. that you hold the toy to high or to low, that your collar is too loose, that your voice is crap, that you present the sleeve innorectly to the dog and you are injuring the dogs neck potentially
  23. ducky education is expensive. and if you are serious about proper training of your dog you will need to part with lots of money. A set of good DVD will cost you over $500, and that is after all just a film. If you had a different breed Id tell youto go to the dogsport clubs, but you wont be eligible with your breed and no club that does the sport will take you. And thats for the sport not real personal protection. But hey - good luck.
  24. I agree, but sadly for many dogs that is a fact of life. Thats why its better for those to be sleeping inside
  25. Where I agree with your last explanation Rachelle I also would like to say that if someone has two hours a day to give to their dog shouldnt have a dog all together.
