  1. its not bad at all, I like to train my own dogs as well, and I like to learn things myslef. My reaction to your post was that you dont recomend professional trainers, thats all.
  2. teaching a dog not to pull isnt putting some device on the dog and hoping for the best. Its not the device its how you train the dog. and you Gayle might be very sucessfull in what you do/achieved but I can assure you that many people arent. Tell me - why wouldnt you recomend a professional advice to someone? is it the $$? or uncertainty of quality of service? or what?
  3. what do the visitors do when they go outside? Do they give the dogs any attention? - good or bad that is.
  4. hehehe - no I dont think Ill be doing a root canal therapy on Rex. If anything it will get pulled out. cant be THAT difficult - he knocked one next to it when he run into a tree chasing his girlfriend. and he broke this one than.
  5. I dont really think it is. yes often advice given here is to go and see a pro, but a pro might mean a trainer in the ob club. Also no trainer here takes dog in for tuition they only teach the owners to teach the dogs - just like the instructors do in the clubs. Im not a pro but I do instruct at a club. We teach the owners to teach their dogs. And if people come to the club and do one hour a week/moths of training with their dog in the class no matter how good the instructor is that dog will take month, years or if ever to stop pulling. I do belive that a one on one can be very helpfull. Wether you pay for it or you get it for free its just economics of it.
  6. Im a bit puzzled - do you think professional trainers only work with people that have agressive dogs? I understand YOU dont want to hire someone but to most people waiting months for results you have is just not an option. People want a quick fix and often can get one if they pay for professional tuition.
  7. no its not a canine, its the front one, the little one right in the middle on the top. Can see him favouring one sied as its right at the front, he isnt rubbing his face any more than usually (basically he does it when his face is wet or he's got somethign in his eye) As to a red line Ill have a closer look but he has deep pigmentation (large black spots) inside his mouth and right there he is basically black so its hard to see. Ill keep a closer look at him and try to give him some food to pull out of my hands, Ill see how he takes that.
  8. The Peakhurst club doesnt resume operation till March unfortunatelly. But there is a club in Homebush Im not sure if they break for summer or not but kavik will be able to tell you if you PM her.
  9. Rex broke one of his front teeth few years ago, and he had half of it only. Now I can see a cavity in the tooth. I dont think the tooth is giving him any dramas, he is eating normally, I tapped him on the tooth with no reaction from im. But there is this question in my mind - what if it hurts him? Should I get the tooth extracted? Will he have to go under anastetic for it to happen? I dont want to subject him to it if there is no need. Also my dentist (human) has a dog and told me he has fixed his dogs teeth when they needed to be fixed. I guess I can ask him to have a look at it as well, or do you think there is no point. I doubt he will fix my dogs tooth..
  10. Its unfortunate but this is how dog agressive dogs get created. This sort of play is asking for trouble. YOur dog is bullying other dogs and in return the other dogs (like the dobe) reteliate to protect themselves. I suggest seek professional tuition and join a dog trianing club in order to get better control over your dog. You should not be allowing your dog bully other dogs, and id that means not letting her off lead - so be it.
  11. how old is he? ditto to the glucosamine and shark cartlidge. Plus give him some fish oil capsules. And perhaps get a visit with a chiropractor.
  12. the problem is you than not the dogs........ if you dont want to stop during the walk why do you? You let the dogs pee on everything during a walk they do, why not just walk withouth stopping???
  13. No it wont. You can train the dog to toilet on command or not to toilet in certain spots or situations but I think the lifting of the leg is an auto reflex, its like saying can I teach the dog not to lick his lips? Why dont you get a female if you dont like the male lifting his leg up? Mind you even some bitches lift the legs up.
  14. Which club? And who would be considered a qualified instructor?
  15. Id like a CD, ET and a show Championship for Divani.
  16. Im alergic to 220 gives me mega migranes. Cant drink wine with 220 So I know how my dogs would feel after eating large amounts of it.... My dogs must know something is not right about the pet mince as they simply refuse to eat it. Rex would not eat for 3-4 days if I presented him with the pet mince. He would be starving than and eat it and them throw it up. I never buy put mince, havent bought any for years. the only pet "meat" I do buy is minced chicken carcesses, and that is from a chicken shop. Its minced and frozen, not spiked with preservatives.
  17. As my Rex is absolutly collar smart - I certainly dont get a recall from him like I would with him wearing the collar. If I go out and he is going to be off lead he always wears it. Sometimes its not even charged and I dont have the remote but he doesnt have to know it , dont you go telling him However, all other excercises he performs the same way. Having said that - I actually dont know for sure as I never ever train him any more, for at least last 12 months if not longer. Except coming when called I have no requirements for Rex to do any formal excercises. He knows what to do/not to do and when. I can not remember when was the last time I have corrected him for anything.
  18. be carefull that it doesnt wrap around you I will now not hold my breath waiting for that PM with the fee you want to charge to visist my club Try not to rush with replying.
  19. Thanks for a great reply, Im shocked you are willing to converse with me, I though you would be gone back to rope making by now horses for courses I guess. Id think a loose martingale is easier to throw over the dogs head than putting on a prong and making sure it wont come undone. Would you say your dogs are collar smart? I know that Rex is for sure collar smart, I also havent had the need to wean him off the collar. Mind you I did get comments that my dog isnt trained if I cant get the collar off him and get the same results.
  20. Hey K9 since you seem to enjoy conversing with me today (for a change, oh what a thrill ) perhaps you will be willing to answer this. on the topic mangement v's training - at several workshops that I have organised with you I had noticed that during breaks you walked your dogs separatelly out for toilet the few steps outside the door on prong collars. Also during one of my lessons when I wanted to see your bitches recall, you have put the ecollar on her and after she recalled (beautifully I might add) you told me that you had no need to stim her on the way. Why the need for the gear?
  21. Its a pleasure for me to invest time in learning how to help other people and than helping them
  22. Cant fault their service, its brilliant and very fast!
  23. Stop it Bub, you are wrecking my reputation everyone knows Im on a mission to destroy the world.
  24. With the Smart collar the remotes used to break occasionally they told me. The new collars - they said its unusual, but I got a 100% sucess rate in getting both broken with the same problem! Lets hope the new ones give me no grief. Good to hear its not a norm.
