vWD, liver and thyroid ( its a blood test). hips and elbows (x ray) Id wait for the dog to fully grow for that, however hip dispalsia isnt common in dobes. Eye and mouth - just at the vets, they just look into the dogs eyes. You can also do a cardio test - halter would be the best if you can get it from somewhere, otherwise whatever they do at the vets. My dogs have vwd done. Liver and thyroid pretty much every year. Divani has got eye and mouth certificate. go to dobepac and check some examples of what you want to see in certificates. Dogs to check - if you go to profiles find the dog and than use the button Genetics. Fireax Thuderstorm - I think he has had a lot of tests done. Chektaf Supreme Thor - he would have a fair bit done as well. I know he had the cardio test done Imxquisit Twice as Fancy Fireax Xtravaganza - I think she had her hips and elbows done. And my Divani - Fireax Twice the Fun, or Rex - Alldobe Strike it Lucky, I have send the results to Dobepac but not sure if it got updated.

Took both the dogs for a walk with my friends, so used the friends to do a group and a figure of 8, Divani was very good, on and off lead. Well considering that she isnt that good overall thats with Rex running around free willing to play with her. And Rex decided to dig a hole in the backyard, found some dirt behind bushes, dug a hole in it and covered himself in a cloud of dust. He is filthy!!!

Chopper Just Bared His Teeth At Angel
MonElite replied to ruthless's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Both of mine were allowed on the sofa, and Divani growled at Rex when I was sitting with her and he wanted to get up to join us. And it was when you were at my place!!!! never happened before nor after. I got a new sofa, and they are no allowed on it. I left them both of the old sofas, one inside one outside and they can go an wreck them as much as they like. And sometimes they sleep on them together, or one on the sofa the other one on the bed I gave them in the living room. If I want cuddles I go and sit on their sofas. -
Perfect Recall Training Using Ecollar
MonElite replied to BrunoBella's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Ditto!!! What is so evil about that word? whats evil about the ecollar or the word resort ? - Not much except I guess the costs associated with gettig the ecollar. Todays training methods are leaning more and more towards positive than a negative. E-collar is an avoidance/escape training method. So people would rather use motivational methods first, rather than starting their puppy on an ecollar. (we are talking here about pets arent we?) I own an ecollar and so far I had very little opportunity of use it on my younger dog, yes I did use it and I will continue using it, however we all know that the best trainign methods are training in drive so why not go for that first, and if you do get the results you dont have to resort to using the ecollar. With my older dog that had bad habbits formed ecollar was by far the best method to teach him to come back. Well this is how I see it anyway. -
Isnt it amazing how some trainers can get some "reputation"? they might be at the end of a day a brilliant trainer but due to strong opinions, or pushy personalities they get countless people going against them. And there are some that are good trainers, and good people.

you are right JJ perhaps you can explain somehtng to me if you know. Apparently we have two organisations doing/governing sch in Australia - SA and AUS. With such a unpopular sport why are there 2? What are the "politics" behind it?

If I was going to buy a dog to do earth dog comepetitions I would investigate what is involved and wouldnt choose a great dane. If I was to buy a dog for retrieving trails I would find out what dogs do well in that. If I was buying a dog for sch I would know that a pappilion might not be a breed for me common sense. Few years ago where there was no internet avaialble like it is now, yes maybe you wouldnt find out things at the click of the mouse, but now........... If someone is interested in sch how did they learn about it?
-
if you were buying a dog for Schutzhund you would know what breed to get
-
People continunally keep forgetting that IPO and Sch consist of 3 areas of dog training Obedience Tracking and Bite work

I had Ella look at it and she never gives complements, as you know, and she said - oh I can see you learned walking And ........... are you sitting down?............. she said she will give me few lessons, becouse Im special. NOONE gets lessons, EVER. I begged on my knees for few years now, and now she OFFERED. Dont know if its a complement or she thinks Im so hopeless and need to be rescued ;)
-
no no no dont you EVER sit on your hands thinking of typing something and not typing it becouse someone might criticise you. You are banned from this - understood? ;)

YOu shouldnt be taking two when you are training at first :p remember low distractions.... LL - this isnt the first time the flyswatter has been mentioned, I must get one If not for dog training at least for the flies :D
-
I was training once with a friend and she had a traing vest on - you know the one with lots of pockets, velcro for toys etc. She for some reason gave me the vest so I wore it. As my hands got cold I put them in the pockets, only to find a raw chciken neck in there  Scared the living lights out of me when I touched it. :D

I have never done this, but know few people that do this. Its a bit hard when feeding BARF

Running 4 Kms In The Morning And The Night
MonElite replied to vicdrg's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I used to do 10+km bike rides with my dobermann. -
Divanis breeder was visiting yesterday and got her to have look at Rex's teeth and she said I have nothing to worry about. That the black dot is quite normal in an older dog and althought he broke the tooth earlier in his life this what he has now is more the wear and tear effect. She said he has got teeth in a fantastic condition for his age.

Horses for courses - I would love for my dog to do that waltz - have you treid training it, its not as simple as you might think. anyway - what you describe is heeling, jsut that the dog isnt focused on you.... Yep - this is how most trainers train, so simple isnt it? Ok there is a slight correction every so often, did you give any? Perhaps you can describe if and what you did.
-
When you will need it in the future you might consider paying for this than :D Or get someone in the club to teach you properly.
-
prong collar doesnt cause any irritation or discomfort unless its "engaged", where the halti does. I think Koehler said something looooong time ago in his books (bearing in mind his traing methods were from the 60's or 70's), not sure but maybe Leerburg has a DVD on it as well. And getting those would be about twice the price of a lesson with someone professional that can actually assess the dog. Can you describe how did the instructors teach you in the club? I think you said you went to one. also I just wanted to make a point - what we are talking about in here is walking with the dog not pulling on lead but not formaly heeling. Walking on loose lead I mean the dog is allowed to go to the end of the lead, forward, sideways, back, sniff, pee look around etc, just no allowed to pull. Heeling - staying right next to the owners knee, hopefully left knee and looking at the handler. What were you talking about Gayle? heeling or walking on loose lead?
-
99.9% of prong collars dont come with rubber tips. I own few types and none of them has the rubber tips. And I have never manged to pierce the dogs skin, I have never managed to rub the fur off either.
