Caslero!!! Yay! Casima!!! Yay! And yes, the dog has no problem here either, its the handler that needs all the training. But I must say that after yesterdays little session I have no adverse effects so maybe its not That bad. We should send the entries together thet way we will be next to each other, we could catch up on all the news from last 3 or so years jbbb you can always come down to Sydney for it.... ;) Sas what do you mean that Dante doesnt get the concept of the front wheel? Does he run across the front?, or in front of you or what?

ET is run by Dogs NSW and its held at Erskine Park, around August. You train yourself for it.
-
sure is for MP. When I did Rex I had a JRT in front of me, she galloped the whole way! Passed with flying colours I might add, but yes this dog has put in whole lot more into it than the larger breeds did. Wonder why its not divided by size into 2 or 3 groups?

10km/h is a bit slow I must say. Its obviously there for a reason, so I shall train at that, its good that I have a speedo on this bike, I never knew on the old one.

So who is doing it this year? In Sydney we only have it once a year and Im planning on doing it with my girl this year. So I finally got the bike and decided to train. More to train myself than the dog, as Im horribly unfit. Im pleased to say that we did our first ride yesterday. 7km at a speed of about 12-13km/h. And Im not suffering today! Divani was just perfect, never pulled, just trotted right next to the bike all the way, didnt like me turning left into her and got scared first couple of times, but than watched the bike and never made a mistake. All I had to do is say heel and of she went with me. That is so different to when I trained Rex, the born to pull fruitloop. After I did his ET where I never pedalled and lost my voice yelling HEEL the whole way, I also nearly had my arm put in a sling Any others doing ET this year? have you started training?

Im guessing you are talking about the show ring not obedience nor agility (as in those betiches in season are not allowed to compete) It is rare for bitches to wee in the show ring, and you would have one stacked next to you you if you were in the show ring. Just stand further away, the bitch is behind you, ask for more room, or you move forward with your dog.

Qualifications To Teach At A Dog Obedience Club
MonElite replied to JulesP's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
My club has a constant problem with the number of instructors. There are simply not enough volounteers to do this. There is about 10 of us all but obviously not every one is there each week. We like to have small classes, defnitelly less than 10 in a class, pref 5 in the two begginers levels. And we all are volounteers at my club. -
Qualifications To Teach At A Dog Obedience Club
MonElite replied to JulesP's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
My club does an internal course. People that have been members of the club and have been sucessfully training their dogs are approached to be instructors - i was one of them. The club chooses people that come on regular basis, arent shy and progress nicely with their dogs. Its a group theory thingo at first. Their own manual, standards, excercises, methods etc. During the course (that goes for quite a few months (every other week is the group meeting) there are videos to watch, books to read, etc. Than there is a written exam. Also during the course a trainee is taking a class with an existing instructor. And chief instructor visits during the class to see what is being done and how. Also all of the existing and trainee instructors get send to seminars/workshops held by various people. As an example we all went to Sue Hogbens workshop she had in Sydney last year. ETA - my clubs isnt focused on obedience trials, we cater for pet owners that want their dogs behaving nicely. There are few people taht do trial dogs (only instructors) and we have our own "class" unrealted to the rest of the clubs classes. Or I should rephrase - its more of a one on one thing than a class. Behavioural issues such as dog to dog agression or to human agression are all reffered to professional trainers/behaviourists (mostly Steve Austin) -

Obedience Or Behaviouralist? Which One

she can try Nathan from www.doggonmad.com.au He does house visits and is brilliant with dogs and people. -
How old is your dog? I think it is possible that the older the dog gets the slower the digestion hence the food sits in the gut longer and more moisture is take out at the bowel hence constipation. Im having a simmilar prob with Rex, I have cut down on the bones, including meaty bones. Increased vegies and organs. Mince meat with veg or vets all natural is now served every second day instead of every third day. Basically more roughage, more wheat, rice vegies. seems to have done the trick.

you can get a collar that has 15 levels for way under 1K from what I have been told even the one that has 9 levels suits most dogs. -

MonElite replied to shekhina's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
My Rex is definitelly collar smart, however his recall improved without a collar as well. I would not trust him off lead under high distractions withouth the collar on him. The collar doesnt have to be on, and I dont have to have the remote, but the dogs must have the collar on. When he has the collar on - I can not remember when was the last time I stimed him. Divani - I did few ecollar sessions with her in the past but I really had no need to use the collar so I dont. I might use it if I decide to teach a sit on the move or drop on recall - is situations where the correction at the distance is difficult. -
RB - what about a martingale?

why jump around in training if in a trial you most likely wont be acting like that? Dogs read body language really well, I am guessing that jumping around is getting less and less during training. Balabanov has some pretty good titles in Sch to his name, he must be doing something right..
