National Ipo Championship 2008
MonElite replied to Kavik's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
no idea No, but I pretty much know the sequence. You will need to do the sequence as noone tells you when to do the turns and how many paces you need to do with the dog when heeling. I think I have the rules somewhere in a pdf format (by email) if I find them Ill send them to you, but hopefully some lovely knowledeable person will post us a linky to the rules. -
Yes you do. its a 10 week old BABY!!!

Only if you do Diesels! he will pass he knows how to heel and do a recall and a stay! and you only need to teach him sit on the move and drop on the move, there is enough time. go on, do Diesel's BH! -

Yes its two different organisations. So strange - the sport is so small in this country yet two organisations.... Had a look at the prizes and its worth to enter just to get what every competitor will receive for participating! -

I thought it was in QLD this year http://www.schutzhundaustralia.com/pdf/eventscalendar.pdf or is it that its by two different organisations? -
I say two - self preservation and self rewarding.

You can learn the obedience and tracking parts pretty much on your own if you already know a bit about training, watching DVDs mentioned here will certainly be of a benefit. Godfried Dildey has a set of 8 DVDs - they are also very usefull. Its all about training in drive and there is a fair bit out there for you to pick up and learn from. But for the bite work you will need another person. I suggest this person know what they are doing...

She and Rex can join a circus together. I noticed something very simmilar on Rexs paw recently, and he never had this before! It doesnt bother him, it isnt getting any bigger so I left it.

Does your partner walk her? She sounds like a typical bored dog that needs mental stimulation. She needs a strong leader and you need a good trainer, and than all can be achieved providing you put some time and work in. And its quite fun training your dog, not to mention very rewarding when the dogs learns something. *snap* PF

How do you know the dog was growling at you not the other dogs? Where were the other dogs? Maybe he wants some peace and quiet and the puppy is invading his space? So he tells the puppy off?

Pulling On The Lead - Backwards!
MonElite replied to ruthless's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I would be taking her on her own for a while and the ball with you, and playing with her as soon as you leave the doorway, or in fact starting inside and continuing while going out. I would do a 2 minute ball play session to go to the corner. She will associate leaving the house with real fun, where right now she is following becouse she has to. Let her make her own mind up about the fact that good things happen when out. Right now you are forcing her, she isnt going to start liking it any time soon if you continue the same way. You want to retrain her, you should know by now that training occurs when you concentrate on her and put your effort onto doing it, not on all 3 dogs at once... naughty ruthless -
Pulling On The Lead - Backwards!
MonElite replied to ruthless's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
She doesnt like walks on the streets, so do you have to walk her on the streets? My dogs dont like street walking either, and never do I really. I hardly ever take them for a walk around my neighbourhood, its clear they dont enjoy it, so I dont subject them to it. Sorry its not a solution to your problem, but a view of why do it all together. As for a solution, why dont you engage in a play with her in the front yard than on the foot path and during the walk, if she goes into drive she will mostly forget about not liking the streets. -

PF thats cheating!!! Anyeone wants to ride a bike with Divani during the test? Pretty please? She is good, doesnt pull.

I dont think that sch heeling is less precise. Yes dogs crowd a lot more tahn ANKC, but they are very fast on the turns, sits, drops etc. And there are no hand signals, only voice comands. Also the left arm must not be held near the pocket ;) . in both there are no specific rules as to the animation, or the dog looking up at the handler. So all in all I belive that there is a happy medium ;)

I had just done another 7km, and as a good PF doctor ordered at a slower pace. No issues, she didnt get tired at all, no panting, or hardly any, no panting 2 minutes after we came home. Im on another hand feel tired. must be the flu I have, shouldnt be excercising, but couldnt help myslef LOL
-
ah the memories. and taht brick feeling of the bike seat ;) I did my ET with Rex in 2003. I can even see my old car in one of the photos on Casleros site ;)

In the beggining dog on a prong collar, than on both martingale and prong, than flat and prong. Seperate lead attached to the prong and only used if there is a need for a correction. I wrap the lead around my waist, so the dog is attached to me. the other lead is in my hand. I have come off once with Rex years ago, but it was my fault, he pulled a bit and I corrected him while with the other hand pressed the front break only and went over the handle bars head first.

20km at 10km/h speed first leg is 8km than a break, I think 15 or 20 minutes, than 6km, break and 6 km.
