Leg Lifting - Submission

There was a fence, behind the fence there was a very dense bush, behind the bush there were some teenagers with sticks hitting the bush and each other, screaming. -

WOW for the superglue!, but her split is not only just split its also open on an angle thing, I dont think it will work, will try to take a pic to show you. Re crates and dogs. I always knew that stadning in line with the dog at LC is a bad idea, so I always had the dog in the car and stood in the line by myslef and got the dog just before the run. But after Divani had a serious go at the METAL cargo barrier in my car leaving it all nice and prettied up with her tooth markings I always bring a crate to LC. I set it up behind the car so she cant see where the run is and that way its kinda OK.... I only get pulled down the hill on the way to the run, and its not that far away. I took my friends dobie girl (Rexs daughter) to LC. She had a flat collar, a check chain and a prong on her and I had trouble holding her and for her not to wiggle herself out of the equipment. She did however ripp the leash out of my hand TWICE and had a free run with other dogs. Im not sure but maybe it was the day that Sue (lady that runs it) decided that if she is going to get a dog for LC (she has afghans) she should get a dobie And now she has one -

Booked A Session With A Trainer

Id like updates please -
Nothing drastic, he has some skin growth between his fingers and it wears off when he walks so it bleeds, its annoying him, he constantly licks it its always dirty and it is actually growing. Took him to the vet today got some special cream to see if it helps and if it will heal, but I cant see this going away, its in a bad spot. So Rex is booked in for next Monday for removal of this thing. Unfortunatelly he will have to go under general anastetic. I dont like the idea, Rex is old and anastetic is just a huge bunch of chemicals that liver will need to process later. I 100% trust my vet so if he says we have to do it it means we will. But Im scared :D Is there anything I can do prior or post to make it easier for the boy?

Yes it works. Someone I know has a huge dobie that pulls like hell and he just bought one of those and it seems to work. He can actually take the dog for a walk now. However a bit of warning - it seems that it is wearing some of the fur out in the underarms of the dog.

I belive you should seek professional advice, this doenst sound right at all. Where are you located?

Midol you should check the library thread in general, I and others have listed there few dvds I have about working dogs, put your name in a queue and you will get to watch them. Also it does matter what equipment does the club have, how are you going to teach the dog to go over an A frame if they wont have one? The sch club on the Gold Coast that I visited recently had of course all of the gear needed for Schutzhund.
-
Simple than $500 a year for the club plus aprox $200 for paid trainer (a week) thats about 10K a year in fees. Add travel and gear and you have your answer.
-
Couldnt agree more. Have you used the collar yourself to be able to present us with the view? Becouse if you didnt use the collar (in the manner Kavik explained) I wouldnt see much validity in your presentation of facts, unless you can of course reffer them to someone that has actually used the collar and had the same opinion as you do.

Prong - well depends where you buy one but make it $100 good ecollar $1000 But true good gear lasts long time, I have my original prong (thats about 6-7 years old) my original lead (8 years old) Good toys cost a fortune too. I just bought two small balls (Sprenger) for $20. Orbees lasted few months as I ripped one open when my dog tugged on it, Kongs are still there although on the 20th string. I made my own tug toys from polar fleece and they are still OK. one day a week wont do... you cant train all day... In my case life just gets too much in the way of training, I am a busy person and find it hard to find time to train. Not the little sessions - these I can always manage, but to go and meet up with like minded people and train.
-
I can give you club costs. About $500 a year in club fees. That would be to train at the club twice a week. I belive that just club wont do so you need some private lessons, and those you can find out from particular trainers. I also belive that its good to be a member of more than one club as it gives you different locations/people/dogs to train with. I would also say that you will need to train pretty much every day (at least in the beggining) in various locations. That you can do yourself so your costs will be the travel. I have done some calculations recently and I think it costs me about $50 a week to train, this is with no seminars, no workshops no private lessons, no equipment (toys, collars etc). And I dont do PP training only obedience really, a bit of tracking and a bit of agility. (I included cost of petrol in my calculations) I would love to do more, but all is very time consuming I struggle doing what I already do, and costs of travel are also very high.

Release Command Gone Wrong
MonElite replied to MonElite's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
ehmmmm, no not really, she chased it and ignored my yell, and came back in her own time. It wasnt long before she appeared on the horison, but still.... I bet she will now be looking for that fox each and every time I go there... grrrrrrrrrrrrrr -
Why would she respond if she doesnt know the meaning of the word. You havent tought her what those words mean, and obviously noone before you did. She needs to be tought what do words mean before she responds to them. if yo choose 2 it will follow 1 as well as by the looks of it your dogs isnt used to the lead, nor knows comands. if you belive she displays some unusual behaviours than go for 3. but from what you described I cant see anything drastic - just a dog that doesnt know what to do or what not to do in certain situations. BTW - I love Jap Spitz - one of my fav small breeds, I had fostered one for a while, got on like a house on fire with my dobermann. As a result I ahve recomended the breed to some friends of mine and they are extremly happy with the the dog they have. Full of personality, loving with the family, full of drive and willingness to do things and great with kids! Good luck with yours.

Last Im at a football field (actually about 3 of them joined togehter) doing some dog training. Noone around. Divani off lead, we are practicing heeling. She is doing very well and Im happy. I break her few times and reward her with food. I normally after the session let her run around and do whatever she likes. As Im finishing the excercise I click, say break give her the treat and say finished so she know she can just go and do whatever she likes. And the moment I say break/ finish I see with the corner of my eye a big brown fox with a huge fluffy tail run across the field!!! Wellll..... so does Divani......... and I told her to break and finish! So off she goes and chases the fox. I did yell HERE (idiot) and thought to myself what a waste of a command, she is in full drive chasing this fox becosue she thinks I let her.... and as she dissapears to the darkness beyond the lights and over the hill I think taht is a krap recall, need to work on that!! and - ok she is dead now (as I dont know what is beyond the football fields and behind that hill) I can order a new puppy tomorrow.... I smack myslef on the head, and she appears from the darkness runs straight to me and sits perfectly straight in front, really happy with her somewhat delayed recall. Moral of the story - release commands are evil ;) We did another session and she has never been better motivated I need to get a fox tail as a reward

Chewing Tearing Rugs And Dog Beds
MonElite replied to 2RidgeBack's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
If they have a dog house and sleep in it together fill it in with straw, put A LOT in as it will compact really quickly. It keeps the dogs warm, it doesnt get wet and dirty. Also put a doggy door (a flap thing) on the dog house to keep the temperature in and straw in. The only drawback is that it might be all over your yard, but at the end of the day its only straw, a natural product that will disintegrate into environment with time. -
I bought 400 capsules for $19.95 from a health food shop. It was on special, I look out for specials at HFS and priceline.

MonElite replied to Mushaka's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
You can try Hurstville All Breeds dog training Club - we train at Peakhurst on Saturday afternoon. Contact Trish 97712582 for more info. There is also a club I think that trains only GSD's not 100% sure. They train near Princess Hwy in Arncliffe on Sunday mornings. I dont know anything about that club other than I drive pass a sign on my way to work, there is an emial addy there [email protected] might try remembering the phone number next time I drive pass it.
