Problems Finding The Right Toy For Drive Training
MonElite replied to ruthless's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
What about a fluffy squeeky toy? For the drive training you want to avoid throwing the prey object from you, you want Chopper to engage in play WITH you not away from you. Watch those Balabanov dvds again. the other alternative is that you give your dogs no prey drive satisfaction whatsoever for a while, so that means no chasing birds, no balls, no nothing. Keep it up for a week and than present a toy of YOUR choice and give Chopper an option to play with you with that toy. If he does it than play for 15 seconds and put it way, make him be begging you for attention and play with him. -
I dont really know how to describe it. My girl likes to play tug and fetch and has a very good grip. I mean a grip that the sch people want, its deep and when she holds on she holds on. She doesnt chew on the grip. When she retrieves (as in excercise) she doesnt chew when she comes to me. The other day I was playing with her in the house, and the game was that I was throwing the ball on a string for her, she would fetch it and run to her bed to chew on it. I would call her to come to me which she didnt really want to do, would get the ball of her (asking her to give) and throw again. On few of the returns I would just tug with her and let her win. At one return I got preoccupied with something and just held the string wtih no pressure on it whatsoever, she wasnt pulling just holding and I could feel micro movements. I thought it might have been perhaps her teeth on the ball, but no, I think she was doing it with her jaw. It was invisible, but when I have put my hand on her muzzle I could feel it. She had a very strong grip at the time. I tested it again and she did it again. What was it? it was hundereds of the micro shakes per minute if not thousands. Totally invisible but kind of like electricity transferring down the string. I imagine its something stress related, the conflict of giving up the toy etc, but normally dogs chew, which she occasionally can when we play fetch with just one ball. any ideas? ETA - she was fully in drive, going crazy, I dont think I have ever seen her that driven other than at lure coursing.

Lets hope we will follow the US rather than UK.... If we follow UK, I hope Schutzhund gets recognised in Australia as well, as it did in UK.

Is It Ok For Pup To Play With Large Dogs?
MonElite replied to poochmad's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
My friends had a Polish sighthound puppy (5 months old) and a adult CAO (about 60kg dog) they played and the CAO fell on the puppy and broke its neck. Puppy was instantly dead. I didnt let my puppy dobe play a lot with my older dobe untill she was somewhat bigger (about 20kg and older one being 36kg). Thay had contact all the time but only under my strick supervision. Having said that on Saturday my dobe bitch played with a staffy puppy that is about 12 weeks old. Shee was extremly gentle and the play consisted on puppy licking her face, her doing a play bow to the puppy than running away and puppy chasing her. If she was going to wrestle I would have stopped her immiediatelly. -
I think you are a combo of too soft and too hard. I think you spoil your dogs in a way yet if you correct them its also pretty hard. All in all the dogs get confused and display undesireable behaviours.

Alternative Breeds (chihuahua!)
MonElite replied to Nekhbet's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I have seen this video before, a friend that has CAO's has send me this link. Apparently these arent really trained dogs, I mean as in proper bite work. Causasian Ovcharka are a LGD and I think these are the breeding tests that the Russians have done and filmed. Caucasians are known for guarding, and that included taking on any humans. I have the whole emial with the judges critiques of all dogs, but its in Polish its way to long for me to translate. Im happy to send it to you if you have someone translate it for you. -
Joypod - not every time the dog goes to the toilet. Imagine being always constipated.

he needs a bit more vegetable/raughage in his diet, dog always straining to poo is not the healthiest idea

Drive Training Question
MonElite replied to Quickasyoucan's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
ruthless you might have to take the puppies under your wings on Monday  as some members are hitting the slopes on Monday :D -
If you are worried but still want to tray if they will play why dont you muzzle your dog just in case and let the puppy out. Use a muzzle that lets the mouth be open, than the dog can bark, pant etc.

Flip Finish And Drop From A Distance

for sure, have it perfect near you before you move away. You can tie him up if he creeps forward he will self correct. but if he isnt used to being tied up gt him used to it first. -

I think deelee just had a pleasant experience with someone I know

It was "my" dog, we always laughed. She started it all for us, didnt she? Always mischevious. I loved that dog with all my heart. Im sooooo sorry This was when she was a puppy.

Perhaps you should know that if you decide to ignore enough rules ANKC might not like to have you as a member.... And from memory I dont really break any rules of that organisation.
-
Sorry Midol Im now puzzled. You are going to join an organisation that you dont agree with, ignore the rules, just so that you can participate in a bike ride with your dog that earns you two letters behind your dogs name?
-
Im pretty sure you can do it in QLD too, Midol. do you view match those of CCCQ? or ANKC as this is the parent organisation..
-
Ripley - you forgot to add that I am wearing abright yellow Michellin style jacket only matched in style by a blue head band under the helmet  Loved being the dag! Hey Pixie - you ment to be going somewhere on Monday nights, what happened? I need an pm with explanation!
