Well said. Australia is one of the most dog unfriendly places on the planet. I'm not saying that we don't need our quarantine laws - we do - but we are incredibly pet unfriendly as well. Personally, if the dogs are healthy and rabies free then just deport them. Johnny Depp and others will know better next time. Ditto. It doesnt say anywhere that they dogs will be destroyed. Its up to the owners to decide if they are flown back or euthanised.

Where does it say it was knowingly? Pets travel free in most parts of the world, it could have been an oversight on his and the organisers part. Not everyone knows Australia has such strict quarantine rules. well they should have made the effort to find out. I can't begin to say what I think about this. I would be banned for 100 lifetimes Really - all his and his staff fault? Where were our customs and quarantine inspectors on arrival to clear his plane?? Or they wanted to get his autograph and didn't notice the dogs? I lived in Australia for over 10 years before I realised that you cant just bring a dog in. That there are some serious requirements. And I had no idea that the country is rabies free! Should anyone ask people in Europe and America about this - they wouldn't even have a clue that we have quarantine requirements. And that includes breeders of dogs, let alone pet owners! You can take food and animals from country to country nilly willy as you choose, not many think its a different story when coming to Australia.

And the never ending - I want to meet BOTH parents, its been recommended to me that I need to assess both temperaments. Sure - come to the show - you are lucky the father of my puppies lives in NSW, but what would you do if I used the frozen semen that I have? One dog is dead and the other is in Norway. BTW - I think I only have had one lot of people turn up to the show to meet the sire.

Oh yeah............. I had a guy rang me up couple of times!!! asking if I my male has the large bulbs when he ties. And if I like to touch them. At first I thought it was a joke but when he rang me second and third time I knew he was a weird sexual freak of nature. I happened to be on the train on the way back from work and yelled at him - don't ever call me again you sicko. followed by a bunch of other very descriptive words. To the amusement of some fellow train travelers next to me :) That was definitely the strangest of all the calls in regards to dogs I ever got

When I have a litter of puppies I get sometimes really weird enquiries, questions, requests. Sometimes I shake my head in disbelief but most of the time I answer calmly, explain, educate etc. Now I have not bred a litter for about 18 months, and don't plan on having one this year either. But still get enquiries from time to time. So I got an email the other day and it said I would like to get a puppy sometime in the next few years. There aren't many dobermanns near where I live so can I come to your house and spend a day interacting with your dog. Weird things that I felt about this were 1. email address didn't end with .au 2. they referred to my dog (not dogs) so I imagine if they were actually interested in getting a dog from me, they would have found my website and know I have more then one dog. 3. Spend a day at my house?? WFT? Being a nice person I replied that I'm happy to chat to them at the upcoming show, gave details etc. Of course never heard back. Probably a scam of some sort. But! This is not the first time I had this type of a request - can I come to your place and play with your dogs. People called me, emailed me, some woman wanted to bring her 3 kids and her sisters 2 kids. I feel like saying - It's not a F**ing Zoo that you bring a herd of kids to look at the animals and spend your Sunday picnicking in my yard. And sometimes I feel likes just saying - yeah sure - its $50 per person entry fee and you are only allowed to feed the animals food purchased from us. So what weird requests did you get?

Behaviorist Recommendation Illawarra Area

you can try doggonemad, they have a website with contact details I believe -
great article. And oh look, in one pic the dog is wearing a prong collar :D

This guys is a reason why I like some of the rules they have in Europe for breeding. first of all 3 first places in a class at a show with a grading of "excellent" He'd have to run around the ring fair bit if he was to achieve that, and not all his bitches nor dog would meet the requirements.

If they release this dog back to the owner she will have a very large bill to pay to RSPCA for boarding. Hopefully she is prepared for that............. -
Four Corners: Greyhound Racing: Live Baiting Revelations
MonElite replied to Boronia's topic in In The News
I happen to know this man, and I had absolutely nothing to do with greyhound all my life, except seeing them at shows or pet expos. Bruce has countless animals on his property, birds, poultry, sheep dogs and yes rabbits. I think maybe pigs too, not sure. and greyhounds. Now that I read about him- I have to say that I didn't even have an idea that he is a greyhound trainer. Ive been to that property countless number of times. I regularly buy chicken carcasses and chicken mince from him for my dogs. And I bought rabbits from him and his son, eating rabbits! I had one for Xmas!! I bought live chickens from them too for my chicken pen to get eggs. Whilst I cant say that nothing ever goes on there or that it does as I simply wouldn't know, he is a lovely guy, so is his wife and son. And yes his son does like to eat rabbit meat!!! we spoke about this many times, exchange recipes etc. -
Four Corners: Greyhound Racing: Live Baiting Revelations

I watched most of it and at some stage one guy had a live rabbit on a string and he was pulling it by hand, like a tug toy. He got a dog out and the dog kinda jumped around interested but my only thought was - that dog is pathetic! My dogs that are not grehounds and supposed to have a lot less prey drive. They would be a lot keener on chasing a polar fleece tug!! So my overal thought was - do these greayhounds have enough prey drive to be sucessful? Or have they been bred for structure taht gives maximum speed but breeders forgotten the temperament they menat to have and the natural prey drive? And now they have to do all these idiotic things just to bring out the extra prey drive? I remember going to fun days of lure coursing at Erskine Park. I stopped going as Divani would dislocate my back and shoulders in the queue to chase a PLASTIC BAG! She would nearly kill herself trying to get it when on cousre. And thats a dobermann that has never been trained to do this! She was a show dog! -
Its clearly a fear based agression, he barks when he is cornered when dogs rush to him etc. And he obviously doesn't like the dog park and the dogs there, so why put him through it? Not every dog wants to be a socially butterfly, don't force him to be one, just because YOU want him to be one.

Paid For The Dog But Never Got The Papers
MonElite replied to 2010's topic in General Dog Discussion
Have you got an agreement with the breeder that states that you are buying the dog on main register? What is the breeder saying? why haven they given you the pepers? Ask them to scan the pedigree and emial it to you. Perhaps its time to tell the breeder you are returning the dog to them, as this is not what you bought. Out of interest - what breed? -
You did super well, like a pro. Great job, I hope I'll see you on TV again! should I be asking for an autograph now?
-
You want to buy more then one puppy? think again......... Re learning about breeds - google is your friend and going to a dog show to see them is another good start
-
So for my dogs it would be between 2 and 4 liters of water a day. I have 3 dogs so it would mean I should have roughly a 10L bucket emptied a day. My dogs drink nowhere near that! I feed only natural diet and my dogs have never ever drunk that much water as a norm. Not even in summer.

What Are The Best Breeds Of Dogs For Young Families
MonElite replied to tobie's topic in General Dog Discussion
A 6-9 months old dobe is a very large dog with very little brain and super energy. They are like a tornado. 9 out of 10 people can not cope with having young kids and a dobermann puppy. There are many otehr breeds that are less energeting and smaller, therefore less likely to injure small kids in play due to size. -
