Getting A Dobermann Puppy - Has Anyone Got A Fireax Dobe?
MonElite replied to teb77's topic in Puppy Chat
That would be me and I have one of them. Yes Im very good friends with Ella, I also have one of her dogs, and know MANY Fireax dobes. I had seen your post about finding rental accomodation with a courtyard too... I can tell you that a Fireax dobe is an active dog that needs more then a courtyard attached to a 1 bedroom townhouse. Not to say you wouldnt take it for walks and runs but Ellas dogs are very active and if not satisfied the dog WILL bark, hence you will have problems with neighbours, you need to be prepared for that. If you want to get one of Fireax dogs you will need to fill in a puppy enquiry form on her website and meet her strick criteria of housing, natural feeding of the dog and the general upkeeping. -
I got used to it, but I still feel silly when Im putting a track on with lots of food on it. Starting peg is huge, and if anyone wants to cross my track I run to them and ask them not to LOL People often stop and watch me do it, dog is in the car so they think its some looney stepping in a weird way droppig something on the ground in each footstep

I hope its nothign serious. *hugs*

Bit out of the way but try Menai Vet Clinic - brilliant!!!

How old is your mouthing dog? I assume its an adult, right? And it has no recall and you have to ask other dog owners to stop their dogs to pull him off theirs? I guess you are seeing improvement and therefore there is nothing wrong with your method, right? Im with poodlefan, with me your dog would get the boot, that would in my eyes see an improvement in a very short time

I use a sking jacket that is not lined. Brand is Marker. Its brilliant, I can stand in pouring rain and it never gets wet. A friend of mine has a simmilar one made by one of the companies that make hiking gear. They are not cheap but mine certainly works.

MonElite replied to Herr Rottweiler's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I got this from them Thank you for your interest in the NDTF National Conference 2010. We are extremely pleased to announce for the first time in Australia Steven Lindsay, (Handbook of Applied Dog Behaviour and Training Vol I, II & III) as our keynote speaker. Our 2010 conference will be running on the weekend of March 13, 14 & 15 in Sydney, (Venue to be confirmed). Please be advised that the NDTF Conference is not recommended for people with no previous training or experience in dog/animal behaviour. Our speakers will be talking at an Intermediate to Advanced level that will be extremely difficult for those with no relevant training and/or background to comprehend. Individuals with formal qualifications in animal training, psychology and/or behaviour will benefit highly from attending. The minimum recommended level of education is a Certificate III in Dog Behaviour and Training. Our conference is designed to cater for those persons working or involved in the dog industry, especially those involved in modifying and/or dealing with canine behaviour. The conference is also highly recommended to personnel from agencies/organisations involved in dog training (Police, Quarantine, Assistance Dogs, Military, Law Enforcement & Detector Dog Agencies, etc.). As we are only at the preliminary stage, we welcome expressions of interest. Now that we have received your enquiry we will add you to our database. As soon as further details become available, they will be forwarded on to you immediately. Again, thank you for your enquiry. -

If you are lookign for obedience club Hurstville All Breeds Dog training club in Peahurst on Saturday after noons, Eastern Suburbs Dog Training club in Centenial park on Sunday I think 9am or Sutherland DTC as well on Sunday mornings -
Qualifed Dog Trainer Vs Dog Trainer
MonElite replied to wayrod's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I do too. I often recommend a particular person here. As one of many examples of his success with dogs, this person got a very dog agressive dog and rehabilitated it, trained it to perfection too. To me this speaks results. I also train with this person about once a week so I see a lot of his work with me and others. So for "personal reasons" I recomend this guy, I like what he does and I trully belive he can help other people. My peeve is when people that dont know a trainer/behaviourist, never met the person nor seen their work pass judgment on their work. -

Sure its not about competitions, but its a lot of effort and in the end for what? OK I understand there is a social aspect of training and I love this more then anything, but then why not only do whats allowed. If someone wants a well trained dog it doesnt have to be biting the sleave, can do many other things as well. -

But then what for if the dog wont be allowed to compete? -

There are plenty of dogs that can do all sorts of work, however the rules are set and they include only certain breeds. It works the same way for some other sports - I have dobes and I can not participate in retrieving trials, doesnt mean that my dogs cant retrieve. -
Having Problems With The Stand Position
MonElite replied to nickojoy's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Maybe with time you will appreciate the standard of sch dogs you have seen on weekend where they do a stand in motion with no hand signals I taught my dogs to do a kickback stand, luring with food onto their chest. I do changes of positions from drop to sit to stand or drop to stand etc in all sorts of combinations, and I try not to use hand signals only voice (which is obviously more difficult for the dog) -

Taking Nathan with Bobs away you are left with 2 dogs, Dirk with Raf and Ilana with Harley. And where I agree that Dirks dog needs improvement Im wondering what is your whinge about Harley? In your opinion that is not a high standard??? That dog has passed BH in April, SchI in June and now has SchII title with scores 97 tracking 90 obedience 96 protection. Raf got his BH in June and have VERY limited amount of training. No, the club paid for someone to travel to oz to have some fun... ;) Kidding - all his credentials are in the catalogue, and he is an SV judge. Out of interest how many dogs have you trained in sch and to what level? -
