Ill start, pls add yours A teacher is explaining biology to her 4th grade students. "Human beings are the only animals that stutter," she says. A little girl raises her hand. "I had a kitty-cat who stuttered." The teacher, knowing how precious some of these stories could become, asked the girl to describe the incident. "Well," she began, "I was in the back yard with my kitty and the Dobermann that lives next door got a running start and before we knew it, he jumped over the fence into our yard!" "That must've been scary," said the teacher. "It sure was," said the little girl. "My kitty raised her back, went "Ffffff!, Ffffff!, FfffffF," but before she could say 'F*ck!' the Dobermann ate her!"

:D On a weekend I watched a handler speak to his dog in Polish and I knew all the comands. Including the "good dog" Polish being my first language - and there I am I now say good dog in Polish to my dogs, where I usually didnt :D -
hahaha Zeping - *snap* or was it Bree? :D

Yes thats Nordenstamm Grand Prix he is only 7-8 months old. I love him He should really be my dog :D and if I asked long enough and came up with enough money I dare say he could be mine, but I have no room, taken by my pathetic show dobes! I can put up some more pics of him to if you want.

Yes its heavy from what I understand about 20-25kg, it was waaaaay to big for me. At some stage I tipped over and landed face to the ground, laughing my head off, I had one arm underneath me and couldnt even roll over to the back I did eventually, but had to be lifted up to stand up again. Other then that it was AWESOME, I always wanted to do it. And in the pic both of my feet are off the ground so that means I managed to "run"

You are in Sydney plenty of good trainers around, just need to accept that they might have a slightly different opinion to yours sometimes -
Couple more pics for you guys Last pic - Two decoys, in this pic the handler is calling the dog off first decoy onto the second one And just because I can - this is me with a mali attached to my back

I sometimes wonder if these petitions do anything. Over the few years that Ive been a member on DOL I signed countless petitions, we had BSL rallys (twice Ive attended) and where are we with ti all? What can we do better/more to be heard?

Its not only pitbulls that have the bad rep. Try a rottie or a dobe as couple of examples...

My comand for down is DOWN, but countless times I said DROP to my dogs and Rex understands both, in fact he is bilingual as he understands some somand in both English and Polish. Now I on occasion will say a German PLATZ or FUS for heel. Especially if I have handeled someones dog that has German comands. But after seeing people being a lot more forcefull I somewhat went forcefull with my dogs yesterday. Didnt seem to effect the girls, which just means Im a bloody pussy most of the time Uppppssss better not say that Paxy might read it and be forecefull with me next tiem she sees me.... -
Ill put some more pics on tonight of Zeping doing some decoy work (and some more duchie pics). It was purly fantastic He made that suit look as if it was made of rubber and was easy to move around in. I had it on too, and it was not easy at all, not to mention way to big for me But I asked for a Mali to be send onto me, and a Mali I know. Mind you now I wish they had send two duchies onto me, that would have been fun ;) Ill get used to their size in no time and I guess I can read the rest of your post as a complement ;) They are not bad, took both girls to training last night and I was very happy with their obedience work, even Divani that I brought out back from retirement just so I can occupy myself with something.

Influence Of Other Trainers/handlers

True, I meant - rewarded by the handler, such as a pet, treat etc. They really get none of that, occasional pet thats about it. Hell yes!! :D -
Do you get influenced by others? Not by what they say but being around someone that does something differently to you. I think I do. When I train with PAX on a very odd occasion I go all happy and sillly with my dogs, and I reward 20 times more, as if I dont she yells at me :D Abnd PAX is a fantastic trainer :D But now I had been on a farm for few days, and before that around Xmas for over a week, with farm dogs. Herding dogs, pig dogs, working dogs that are not pets. And those dogs on farms, hardly ever get a pet, they are more likely to get a kick then a reward, yet those that I had seen knew their jobs really well. When I was around the sheep herding dogs, the guy used to crack the whip as a correction, never touched the dog, but they knew they are doing wrong. All the farm dogs had tip top recalls, and none of them was taught with an ecollar. Of course they couldnt sit, drop or heel with attention but they did what they supposed to do and did it well. And there was the getting on the ute/track and getting off the ute/track stuff. So one of the herding dogs (6 months old pupp) was I guess not fully trained in the "truck" command, if it didnt jump on straight away it got picked up by the owner and forcefully thrown onto the ute, no mercy. Best command I had seen was "no shit" :D Two dogs jumped off the moving truck to chase something, they were in full prey drive, the owner yelled out "no shit" and they both returned, no questions asked, and jumped back on while the car was still moving. That was impressive. So there I am last night with my two dogs, and not my car, and Divani decided to jump out from the car when I didnt want her to, I told her to get back in, she didnt, so I virtually picked her up and trew her in, yelling "truck" Then thought to myself - by my comand for getting in the car is not "truck" what an idiot am I. Mind you she had no problem getting into the car later on Do you see others do something and subconsiously do something simmilar later? Or are you tip top set in your own ways?

It was far away and I dont think it will be on again for several months, we went for 3 days there. Those that I have seen were serious dogs, I dont think I would want one, plus for you with the size - well they are a lot bigger then Kaos :D . Mind you when I came home - after seeing them, malis, and some x breeds I walked into my house looked at my dogs and thought - OMG my dogs are HUGE :D and FAT :D and dissobedient
-
Kavik - at a secret location by invite only, I begged to be allowed to attend and I got to go, it was a blast One of the best dog weekends ever And two dogs that I had seen were definitely bigger then Malinois, well maybe not bigger then Harley, but he is a horse not a dog Here is a pic for you.
-
I met two on a weekend from ck9sas. As Jeff said - not for the faint hearted. A lot more serious then the malinois, larger and scarier looking too! But after I had seen them work they have grown on me a bit.
-
Rocco - there is nothing I can say that will make you feel better, but just remember you gave him a good home andhe was a loved happy dog.
-
And I think it all depends on the dog. Some will withstand 50 huge yanks and will not be bothered, and another will shut down after a small pop.

Just a quick explanation/correction about couple of points in this post. IPO training is not done in a class environment. Participation in protection or tracking training is not compulsory.

I was thinking about this thread the other day, as to what are the "symptoms" of a dog in drive. My 12 month old pupp has not had a training session since beggining of December (naughty naughty) and I thought Ill give her a go, just in the yard. She found a dead tennis ball out of somewhere and brought it for me to throw. So I said - ready? and she got all excited, jumped up (nearly giving me a black eye), barked at me and put herself automatically in a heel position, tail wagging, ears forward, smile on her face and ready to do stuff. She was a bit out of the postion when I heeled and droped on the angle, as I had the ball in my right hand, I swaped to the left and she wa better, when I put it behind my back she was a smartie pants and and grabbed it out of my hand But a minute later she was back to nice heel and not so crazy, I could walk and throw the ball from one hand to another and she wasnt going mad, jsut waiting for word "break". And then she would go mad for the ball, regardless if I threw it far or up or whatever. She never lost the enthusiasm - and I think this enthusiasm is what I call drive - prey or play drive.

I have dobermanns so Im biased but what I can say about the breed is that they are VERY smart. Alot smarter then people ever think they are. And that makes them easy to train but also they can easily learn bad behaviours. Also they dont do so well in hot temperatures if you get a black one. They dont do that well in the clod either because of the short coat. But they are tip top loyal, great guad dogs (wich can be a pain sometimes for some people) and atm I wouldnt change the breed. To me they are stunning royal looking traineable smart dogs.

Trialling Males Or Females?.
MonElite replied to Longcoat's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Not that I have a lot of expereince trialing but I did a bit with my old entire boy (dobermann) and where he was pretty good on the individual stuff I was always worried about the group stays. If there was an entire male next to him Id would withdraw him, just in case. He loved the girls tho, and that was a problem as well, he once just got up and left the ring to play with his whippet girlfriend from the club, he was soooo in love with her My girls - well Divani is relativelly good, I dont worry about dog agro with her, but she is flat in the ring and it annoys me no end, so I kinda given up on her, she can just be a pet and chase bunnies. Mind you I might bring her out again and get a title on her eventually. Furia - nearly 12 months old only attended mock trial once and was PERFECT for what she knows. -
Corvus - to me that dog in the video is not really in drive. A little bit but not much. More with the box. When my dog is being trained in drive she virtually wants to jump out of her skin, she often cant control herself and will jump up, bark, tremble, do circles, etc. When I ask for a heel (flip finish) and she is in high drive I never get her just to move her bum into position, I get a smack on the face as she jumps into position, I get slobbered all over and usually if she anticipetes the reward she will put her paw on my foot (undesireable, but cute) When she is heeling and high in drive she not only prances but she jumps up with her front feet, again undesireable but I rather that then not enough enthusiasm. When she fetches a ball she goes so fast and she wants to get the ball so much that 80% of the time she does a summersault when she grabs the ball. I need to put that on cue
