  1. The info on the site provided is about June 2004 event Can someone please shed some tight about this weekend? What time does it start etc
  2. Some info re this virus here http://www.defra.gov.uk/animalh/diseases/n...kys.htm#history Since I feed BARF (includes pork bones and offcuts) I had a discussion on a Polish forum about this and thats what they came back with. Perhaps this virus doesnt exist in Oz??? Than again, they all panic about everything, so I dont know if their concern is legitimate or it is another panic atack about nothing...... Their argument is that this virus is killed by cooking and that we humans also dont eat raw pork (perhaps becouse of this virus)
  3. As I frequently visit European forums it has come to my attention that they dont feed raw pork in their BARF dies as apparently it might contain a cirus responcible for a desease. Now the prob is that I dont know the deseases name, as I am unable to translate. It is a persons name and starts with A. apparently it has simmilar symptoms as rabies and can be fatal. Do we have the same here? I have raw fed pork/pork bones to my dog but now I am kind of scared. Can someone shed some light, please.
  4. If its going to be at Erskine Park there is no fences there. Id love to do this as well if my dog can run by himself.
  5. As both days are full I have asked Steve for another date and it will be August. Either 13th or 20th, will confirrm. So for now asa you can go on the August list as nr1.
  6. Someone has just pulled out from the 9.07 seminar. If anyone is interested please let me know.
  7. Tell me about it ;) He knows shake hands, come, speak in two languages. Hey he comes extra fast when I say masz or kielbasa :D (sausage for those that dont speak Polish) I try not to make him completly biligual, just happend Some of my friends adopted GLOS {gwos} for speak for their dogs. :D
  8. Thanks for clarification of the jumps ad retrieves in UD and Open. i think I might have gotten the idea of a retrieve over a directed jump from some European trails, thats why. As to teaching dogs commands in other languages - for me it is easier to speak to my dog in Polish since it is my first language. Non obiedience commands are in Polish in my household. Formal ones in English so its easier for training club, trials etc. I guess what I mean by the dog not responding to commands given by other people is that my dog will work for anyone becouse he has been tought that, however I think the next one I will teach that he is to work for me and my husband only. Well not only but not that he does everything everyone tells him to do, if you know what I mean.
  9. Thanks Eddy makes a lot of sence. Since I dont have this problem as I tought the dog in English, but I will remember for the future, never know the next one might be tought in Polish to limit strangers giving commands. Ahhh who knows......
  10. I think its only you.... When I'm in the ring - yes people are laughing, but to me it usually aint funny :D :D
  11. Hand signal is fine if your dog can see you, what about if you are hiding and cant give a hand singal? Thats why in a trial it is used but how about outside the square ;-) Is there a retrieve over a directed jump? My dog somewhat knows to turn left when he is told corner (thats from the showring) - maybe I will start on left and right next... Soniq - in agility every course is different and you are not told what to do, each obsticle has a number and you are given some time to walk the course before the trial to memorise it. In Obiedience you are told what to do.
  12. If you were trailing in Europe you would have to remember the whole routine yourself and there would be no clues from the judge. In Australia its easy, stand at the strarting peg and you are told what to do , almost step by step. There you go you learned another thing :-)
  13. Makes perfect sence, but a judge in obiedience knows what your dog should be doing as it is the judge that tells you what command is next. You heal with your dog and judge says "drop your dog", so if you say vegemite you dog should lie down. makes no difference if its vegemite or whatever in another language. If your dog stands instead of droping everyone knows its done wrong.
  14. Of course this will be only my PERSONAL opinion, but I think this rule is somewhat wrong. Dumbell is thrown, if you say to the dog fetch it should just go and fetch it, perhaps without a jump. If you want your dog to fetch over a jump the command should be fetch, over. But as I said that is MHO only. In theory (of course) and not in a UD trial lets imagine that you have a jump to the left and a jump to the right and in the middle you throw a dumbell If you say fetch the dog should run straight and get it, if you say fetch over right dog should fetch it over the right jump. yes I know I'm dreaming :D I just think it is important and difficult to teach dogs a series of words - such as go upstairs and get my red slippers instead of a one word fetch. OK I will be quiet now, what do I know, dont even have a CD on my dog. :D
  15. Perhaps not THAT dog :D maybe next one. This one doesnt fetch - remember? BTW I havent started what you gave me....... I'm sure that if I had some commands in Polish and asked a judge before the trial there would be no probs, most of them are human :D and will understand.
  16. Makes sence about one sylable, dont have a rule book here, but I can not remember that is states that command has to be one sylable. I think one word is the rule. So I could use vegemite or kissmybuttski if I wanted to LOL Correct me someone please! Just thougth of it - some commands in Polish are one some 2 sylable, I think majority of German are 1. I just dont see a point between saying come or comehere if the dog has been tought comehere as a command. So the here is the extra command???? Anyway - I became compliant with the rules of the clubs and dont have the problem, but I like to question things to understand WHY something is a rule. OK since I am nowhere near UD level - when the dog has to retrieve over a jump is a command one word? OR can you say fetch, over or whatever you trained your dog to understand?
  17. To me (English is my second language) the rule that command have to be in English is a bit weird. I mean, you can only say a command once, so what difference does it make what language it is in? What difference will it be if you say heal (you could be saying vegemite) or noga (in Polish) Imagine if someone has an import from Germany that is UD equivalent and they cant trial here becouse the dog knows commands in German. On another hand if you want to say "kiss butt" for a return to a heal position you are allowed. Just weird. I wanted to teach my dog commands in my native language so it wouldnt respond to just anyone, but that was shortlived when I found out that he HAS TO speak English.
  18. MM - so well said! (re fruitloop owners) BH test must be passed here are the rules http://www.dvgamerica.com/04BHRules.pdf As to possible fruitloop owners and dogs (this is taken from this site) http://www.dogschoolmrazovac.co.yu/en/schutzhund.php " Before any dog can enter a Schutzhund trial and obtain a degree it must pass a ( BH ) . BH = German Companion Dog. The dog must pass this test at an approved Schutzhund Trial. This test was developed as a preliminary character evaluation. This test was designed to keep aggressive, sharp, shy, or nervous dogs from participating in the sport. A dog must have absolutely sound temperament to compete in a Schutzhund trial. Schutzhund training is very time consuming and requires a lot of commitment from the handler. The length of time it takes to get a Schutzhund title varies greatly depending upon the dogs abilities, the time spent training, and the quality of the training. Many people view the sport of Schutzhund like preparing for an Olympic Event. One must see their dog as an athlete and learn all the aspects of conditioning, proper diet, and the psychology of it all -- for one's self as well as for the dog. The obedience phase involves numerous and demanding exercises which include heeling on and off leash, a gunfire test, walking through a group of people, motion exercises, recall, a 10-20 minute long down, retrieving, and jumping. A set pattern is demonstrated by the handler from memory (unlike AKC obedience, where the judge calls the pattern for you). A perfect score is 100 points, with 70 needed to pass. " So a fruitloop dog (aggressive) with a fruitloop owner are not likely candidates I just give one more example - a boxer - the dog that people say is FANTASTIC with kids, and so they are. Including this one http://www.dogschoolmrazovac.co.yu/gallery/images/eva.jpg
  19. Yes the test is for both the dog and the person
  20. It wasnt hard to find a lab as well http://www.hund.ch/fotos/flabrador26.htm
  21. Yes thats exactly right abut barking - the dog is to find the "bad guy" and intimidate him, as well as notify the handler by barking that he has found the bad guy. As to tests - yes there are tests to eliminate fruitloops. Basically it is to find the dogs confidence, obiedience and bite (by bite I mean deep with full mouth plus a hold with a mouth, it is not good if the dog bites the sleave and shakes the sleave trying to "kill" it) As to labs and shelties not appearing in the Sch videos - the only reason is that people that have those breeds are generally not intrested in doing such sports. Plus of course a general breed predisposition. Great Dane............ voila http://www.dogschoolmrazovac.co.yu/images/sale/DSC01407.JPG My friend has a pomeranian - He is a Sch III rottie trapped in a small body. He would be a champion in the sport if given a chance. (How we know? becouse she also has a dobe that she does Sch with)
  22. http://www.tresurapsow.pl/pliki/dob-testy/1.wmv Cordelia check this out - this is a dog that is not Sch 3 as yet, this is a test and he fails it. Look what he does with a sleave. Dont some dog do the same with a rope/ball/fluffy toy? Retraining a dog that does the tug of war with a rope and than a fetch would be just as easy to retrain to do human bite work as it would be to retrain this dobe. You are right chances of you to get a dog that is Sch3 tiled are NIL. BTW I am happy that this subject came up, and we can sort of hihgjack, perhaps it will educate people that protection trained dogs are not dangerous - they are simply very well TRAINED.
  23. Getting back to the subject - Cordelia - would you rehome such dog? Of course hypotheical question. I think if this one was looking for a new home with would have to be at a very specail $$$ price.
  24. Yeah I will take him if someone is going to rehome him. Let me know if you want more I have International agility comp international champ of protection dogs Polish IPO 3 champs Elimination round to German champ in sch (Berlin) breeders requirements test in Poland
