  1. you have two toys as a prey items. Practically identical. Somehow the dog is far more interested/satisfied by one more than the other one. What do you do? continue with the one thats more satisfying, raise a value of the less satysfying, get a brand new third one? Or?
  2. Just to give you more motivation - we want update every second day.
  3. off topic here a bit, or maybe not... if you do this in the car the car will actually move. Try it - you will see.
  4. I know dogs that will not toilet on lead, do you put it to the category of a defence and fear of the owner?
  5. Some people wouldnt get into a Ferrari Testarossa as they would be affraid that they migh actually like it and what to have one.... Some would consider it uncomfortable. Some would think its too fast and too dangerous. But one thing is for sure, that car turns heads. And some people are happ with the Daewoo Lanos, gets them from A to B. Now on the subject of an ecollars and prong collars. Im a very happy owner of a ecollar. I of course as majority of people had the wrong concept about them and said originally NEVER on my dog! I have the collar for few months and my dog is not a spring chicken so the training is not so quick. I used to walk my dog with a firend and her dogs. We havent done this for a while, and had an opportunity to do this last weekend. Her comment was - I have never ever in my life seen your dog being so obiedient and so happy. I guess if the collar was so barbaric he wouldnt be happy.......
  6. BOF there is a saying in an area "other" than dog training - not that I would know, just know the saying. Once you had black you never go back.... I guess for many of us K9 is the black and we dont want to go back..... Just as a side question have you tried Steves services? Im talking about dog training her
  7. K9 when you are not at home, when there is noone home for long time, (obviously something not usual at your place) your dogs stay together? What do they do?
  8. Nat - just a question. If you had one dog what would it be doing if you were not there? I know mine sleeps most of the time, if I leave a bone he might occupy himself with it for a while. Other than that I think he just walks around the verandah and moves himself from one side of his body to the other snoozing. (thinking now about instaling a video camera to see what he really does....) When I had visiting dogs I know they played, there was evidence of it in the yard.
  9. If I had a choice between my dog sleeping when Im not there and my dog digging holes in my yard and pulling washing off the line when Im not there, I choose him sleeping any day. Nat - you sound like a perfect candidate to be on owner of a LSG breed of a dog where they do so much more of independent thinking than other breeds.
  10. Long time ago when my dog was a pupp and wanted to play with any dog I was at the beach and there was a woman there with a dog that was just looking at her all the time, fetching ball and couldnt care about the rest of the world. The owner was the world. I asked the lady if my dog can play with hers, she said no problems, but mine will not play, she doesnt want to play with other dogs, all she wants to do is play with me. At the time I didnt think much of it, this just brought the memory. I recall how happy that dog was, how focused, how eager etc. It was just to die for. I guess Im somewhere in between - I love to see how Rex plays with his friends, but I have learned that not every dog has to be his friend. I absolutly adore when he goes nuts when his dobie girlfriends arrive, I like it just as much as when he goes nuts when he plays with me. And as long as I can call him away from his beloved friends or hated enemies Im happy for him to play. Apart of allowing him play with dogs he knows and likes I have no intentions of ever arriving in a dog park seeing a group of dogs chasing ball and letting him off leash to mingle with the rest. Not this dog not any other future dog I might have.
  11. Mine are in a huge bulldog clip and the clip is attached to an empty cd tower. ribbons cover the tower.
  12. Thanks norskgra. I can not picture what instructor would be a full on stand out in the "nasty" tactis at Peakhurst, Ill be very happy to find out by PM. Hey for what I know it could have been me I will mention your comment at the next meeting tho. If you were in the beginners, there are really 4-5 people that take those classes, Im one of them.... but I can not remember having an elkhound in a class. Good luck at Sutherland, as long as any club provides what you are after than its good, I couldnt find a club anywhere in Sydney that would do what I wanted to do..... but thats another story. Oh and good luck in the showring, I might see you there one day with my dobie... maybe.
  13. yes I will seriously abuse work facilities.....
  14. Steve - Tarka is organisisng the film. From what I understand he will give us a password to some magical site and we will be able to download it from there. I might (hint hint) be a lucky owner of a DVD at some stage.......... I cant copy DVDs so I dont know what are we going to do, plus Steve - K9 will have to aprove for it to be copied. Tarka is going to advice when this is ready. gosh I hope Im correct.......
  15. I thought it was my subject ;) ;) ;) I have to say that the Sydney DOL meet is a great idea.
  16. Tarka - that is GREAT ;) at the first photo tho, she certainly has some pulling power....
  17. Oh no, I liked the great majority of people over there. I really enjoyed agility, the demo classes etc. What I didnt like and I will repeat this time and time again is inconsistency of training methods between instructors. Ranging from pure positive to way over the top nasty. And if you happend not to know any better and go from one class to another from one extreme instructor to another, all you could end up is a headache and an extremly confused dog. Want my two examples again? Im also a volounteer (at Peakhurst) and I know how it is, I try the best I can but I would never dream to try to fix someones problem dog with the limited knowledge I have. All clubs have the good and the bad points, there you go norskgra doesnt like Peakurst for whatever reason. Not everyone can be pleased, I guess I wasnt pleased when I was at Sutherland. BTW Norskgra what were you not happy about in Peakhurst. Godd creative criticism will only improve the club. So please share.
  18. Yes - but you havent worked Rex on the night. I also swear that Steve has not seen those two dogs before. I had Image lined up for a demo for a while, even if the owner wasnt coming Imi would have been borrowed as I know that this is one unstopable dog And I love her for that. Im looking forward to the next one as well, was a pleasure to have you all over at my place.
  19. Quote of the day for some trainers :lol Mind is like a parachute, it works much better when its open.
  20. That is one reason why I like the Peakhurst club. Trainers will help with what they know, but have no problem saying - sorry its beyond me, go and seek prof help. They usually send them to Steve Austin becouse he is local. I send to K9...
  21. Gannons Park in Peakhurst Sat 2.30 (3.30pm in summertime) entrance from Robyn St. I feel its a better school than sutherland, methods are more consistent, more relaxed atmosphere and smaller classes, especailly for beginners
  22. Steve will start to think that we actually like these things! You want a next one, YOU guys start bribing him.
  23. Thats only becouse they were wearing muzzles and were in the cages.
  24. So that is what the dogs see better than we do...
