There is question for you guys. What drive is the strongest in a dog? Food, survival, sex, prey, pack? Not talking specific dogs, but in general. -

Just on a different note - in the old days of lets say hunting for a fox (last century for argument sake) I dont think hunders used clickers... I can not recall farmers now with working dogs using clikers. Its all voice. And if you go aroud the world analysing the verbal markers in various languages you might see that they are very simmilar in tonation, lenght, speed etc. Im am not to say that CT isnt good, I have seen it work very well. -

...... watch their legs or they get bruised heaps. Some realise they need to work out more as they are unable to physically keep up. Plus some realise that the eyes of the dog tell them everything. Great feeling! -

This is for those that have not been to K9 and are planning to go. It frustrated the hell out of me for long time when I have send pages of stuff to tell him the progress on my dog. All I would get as a reply was often less than one sentence after half a page of my stuff. But each comment made me think, made me go through my brain searching for the info K9 had given me. Next time I taped the thing, there was no way I could remember everything. I must have watched that first tape about 5 times over time and each time I found something new. I'm really greatfull that Steve had done that, becouse I have learned heaps and heaps, its a lot better than him serving me a ready answer on a silver platter. And for that I THANK YOU K9. -

Anti clicker? I have no idea Am I do what K9 told me to do and it works, thats all I care about. Rex is affraid of a clicker so I never used it. As to dobie loving and punishment. Ok the dog has been tought a recall (with the ecollar) and has it pretty much under control under high level of distraction such as a dobie girl willing to play. So off he went and if he played nice, run with her and didnt anoy her he could be there with her. The moment he started being too "happy" I called him to me meaning the play ended for him. I made him heal nicely next to me and for obeying that I released him to go and play with the girl. Nice play no worries, something I dont like = come or sit (which he does very well at the distance) So I guess that it isnt the unpleasant sensation that made him stop the dobie lovin' its the recall that worked and the lack of play was a punishment for being to hot. Gee I hope that this is right.... otherwise K9 will put me in the corner for being a bad student ;) **** As to handling K9's dogs I had an opportunity to walk the male some time ago as a practice for some dog agression for another dog. I went to untie him from where he was, took the leash and said heal, just like I would do with any other dog. He walked nicely next to me, when standing still he let me pet him. When I stoped he didnt ask for more. Heal again, walked next to me nicely again. The moment K9 raised a stick the dog was in a different world of which I wasnt a part of. Priceless to observe. -

I only have one regreat about ecollar... that I didnt get one earlier when K9 told me to. I of course knew better and didnt listen to any reasoning, until.... I gave up or more - decided that Im too lazy and dont have enough time to put into training the beast. Its about 3-4 months since I got it and I really didnt put that much of an effort into training, but we have a great sit, sit at the distance and a recall is pretty much there as well (although K9 will not agree becouse Rex decided not to do it in front of him) I have used it recently when I had a visiting puppy dobie girl that was of course bound to get raped by my dog. She didnt, dogs off leash and with help of ecollar I showed my dog that humping her is not what I want to see. Thinking of a humping action, stim on, recall comply reward. He figured out quick smart that if he wants to spend time with her he has to be nice and do what I let him do not what he decided or desires. -
Oh and you said that its impossible to train her not to pull? two days..... PS didnt go to pet expo, as thre were 3 days there to cover I was (with a friend) willing to do one, but there were no volounteers to do the other two hence the organisers decided not to have us at all. What a shame - Dobe Club not represented at this even at all....

You observe the dog (heaps of signs before the dog even hackles up) and do not go any closer. Quite simple really if you know what you are doing. Just to bring this to line of the actual subject - that would not be the case if a dog seen no value (positive or negative) in other dogs..... -

Those that attended one of the worshops with Steve whee we had lost of dobes will know what Im talking about. We had my dog and a brown dobe (also an entire male). Rex for some reason decided to have a go at the dog, from a distance that I have always considered safe. I attend the trainig club with that dobe, last weekend we were starding not more tahn 1m apart with no reaction from my dog. So the simple answer is that the distance can change, depending on the day, circumstances etc. Why would the dog make an effort to grab another dog? Becouse it thinks that the flight option is removed, becouse of previous experiences and learned behaviours, becouse it thinks that having a go at another dog will scare it off and it will go away. Simply becouse it wants to protect itself, just in case. -

She was most likely in avoidance and didnt want to see the other dog. Proximity - too close for Jyras comfort. Possibly. -
