Central Coast/newcastle People
MonElite replied to Winterpaws's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
If I can butt in here since Im an expert with experince in organising those.... What I have found was that majority of the time people wanted very simmilar subjects covered and they included: loose leash walking theory of how do dogs learn - drives - positive and negative and how to use them triggers to behaviour followed by what is management and what is training what to do in the sh*t happens situations recall pack structre - there is always talk about TOT and NILIF demo of various equipment - and yes ask to feel that shocking tool - ecollar dogs jumping up and there always been dog agression. But that is one big subject and I feel that if you will cover all of the above there is little time left for the dog agression, although people always ask and K9 always talks about it. oh there alwasy is a dog that hates that one neighbour.... ask Steve what to do about that. -
Muttley - both.

Depending on the stage of my training chickens are either far away or near me. After the "instant" comment I cant wait to see your instructions for an instant method of training a dog to recall under high distractions. It would come in handy to Muttley in an event when that chicken enclosure somehow becomes open.....

Geeeezzz we have something like that here? Where?????
-
Chickens, rabbits, seagulls, kids on bikes, whats the difference? to the dog that is? Its an object that the dog wants to chase and most likely capture. I really cant belive that you dont see that K9 and I say that there is a need to TRAIN the dog not to chase the chickens/gulls/rabbits. care to share with others here for the greater benefit?

Oh I just found something that I though might be somewhat appropriate to show.. only somewhat..... http://www.youtube.com/watch.php?v=RqjRlKu...0training%20dog

change the gull to a rabbit, seen one of those counght by a dog? I have... How would you know if your dog had a reliable recall if you (according to your management theory) never let it chase one, not even near a cliff?
-
so you can show it that doing the wrong thing will have consequences. of course I dont. I have given this as an example for a management program gone wrong About 6 months ago a dobermann bitch, 18 months old chased a seagull, didnt see the cliff.... fell than died in the owners arms before they managed to get her up the hill to the vet. if only she obeyed a recall comand.... she always did when there were no seagulls to chase. Guess what? Their training stoped before the distraction phase, maybe even before the correction phase.

Management is great and stress free when you can control all aspects of the external environment. It fails greatly when sh*t happens.... A dog doesnt chase chickens when they are locked up, show him a seagul on the other side of the road while you fail to hold on to the lead he is on, and you have a sh*t happens situation..... True story - my friend that is a vet told me that there was a customer that arrived with their dog to amputate a dogs leg so that it wouldnt jump a fence and run away. Apparently they have done "everything" to keep the dog in the yard Thats management taken a bit further for you......... BTW vet refused to amputate.
-
Some people take the management to the levels that I personally dont like. They dont walk the dog to prevent them from being pulled around on lead..... Id rather teach the dog not to pull than not walk it at all..... IMHO - train the dog, if you fail to train than manage....
-
Thats management not training. If they love the baloon, you find something they dislike....

FeralSam I understand that your intentions are to help someone, but sending a note from K9 to someone is not going to. Think of the possibilities of the person misinterpreting the information, choosing the wrong collar, perhaps not getting any results, or worse teaching the dog bad habits. At the end all this person will say is that K9 is a sh*t trainer. Im sorry to burst your bubble as well, but apart from getting a permission for K9 think of the consequences for all parties. People pay for that info, you did yourself, K9 doesnt run a charity org.... -
Does Anyone Here Do Obedience With A Dobe?
MonElite replied to wyvernblade's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
My dog has only chewed what I allowed him to chew and destroy.... I guess they teach you to be tidy As to cost of a puppy dobe from a reputable breeder $800-1000. I know of a lot of people with a lot of dobes and Id say that on average a small % is destructive, only becouse they have high drives that are not satisfied by the owners. Apart form that - great dogs. Last night some GSD people asked me if I can be converted to their breed. As much as I loved their dogs, I can not. -

PAX here does and is very sucessfull. I sort of do, but dont compete. Have a friend that did it "full time" and got state championships. Plus I know of several people in the Dobe world doing it, they are just not on DOL. Great breed -

We have an advantage here .... becouse we can ask what he does on weekends... or some of us have seen his garage, or skidd marks on the lawn etc. He does some pretty dirty things on Sundays, obviously dirt doesnt bother him -
