  1. Just had more info She is in Windsor NSW and would be about 5kg when ready in 3 weeks. Anyone have any ideas? No one travelling this way at all around then LOL even half way!?!
  2. I enquired about a rescue dog that I was told would be located in Adelaide. She is only a puppy under 3 months old.... I have now recieved an email saying that she WAS going to be transported here from NSW but is now not coming. I could still adopt her but would be my responsibility/cost to transport her here (to Adelaide) Does anyone know about how much that would cost? TIA
  3. This is LOOOONG so sorry.... but this is my babies story!!! My old girl retired last year in the March, I had a beautiful GSD who was also a rescue (can you see a pattern?!? Lol) but she was straight from the pound and had lots of issues. She lived to the ripe old age of 13. I got her when she was 5 months old. I knew that I wanted to “save a life” but I didn’t want a tiny puppy (its like having a baby!!) but I was weary about adopting again from the pound given how many issues my GSD had. I also had the added concern that I now had a 3 year old son, so the dog had to be good with children and I wasn’t certain that pound puppies are tested with that?!? Anyways, I had been looking around at some of the rescue places in Adelaide and noticed that they did fostering (I didn’t know this was something that happened prior to my research starting!!!) So I enquired about a few dogs, but mostly got the answer, not tested with children. I then saw Holly at a fantastic rescue group who are based on the Yorke Peninsular, I rang the lady in charge and I was on the phone to her for nearly two hours. Just asking questions and making sure she was the right fit. There was A LOT of interest in Holly as she seriously looks like the dog from a PAL commercial – she is very pretty, and I always get comments about her when we are at the beach, park etc. I was hoping against hope that I would get the call that she would be ours. I got that call!!!! OMG I felt like I had won the lottery. No joke, I was so super excited. My son was excited. I just felt like she was the right dog for us. We went to pick her up (a 2.5 hour drive) from her foster family (a lovely lady, who I still keep in touch with) and as soon as we walked in she radiated straight to my son and put her head on his lap and just looked up at him. Seriously I fell in love with her right then. Her story (although not as sad as a lot of dogs – but could have been had not a rescue group stepped in) was that she was a “give away” on Gumtree. And because she is so pretty, the rescue group was fearful that she would become just another puppy breeding machine. They won’t tell me much about her past, just that it wasn’t very nice, and she was basically a dog that was left outside and nothing done with her. She didn’t even have a blanket. No shelter, no kennel NOTHING. You know that alone, makes me sad. I don’t think I could hear anything else. She is now a VERY valued member of our family. When she can get away with it, she sleeps on my bed (she sneaks up in the middle of the night lol) she is included in everything (that she can be) and she and my son are the best friends. My son is an only child and he calls Holly his “sister”. Holly still needed to be desexed before coming to us, and her foster mum kept me updated every day about how she was doing. I might have been a bit in your face, but she was now a part of my family too, and I wanted to make sure that she was ok. She sent me a lot of photos, and updated on the silly funny things she did. I felt like I knew her before I even got her. Does that make sense? I know that her FM didn’t have to do that for me, but I am grateful that she did. I am so thankful to her foster family, without them they wouldn’t have known she was good with children (as the foster mum had a couple of kids and one my sons age) they wouldn’t have known that she LOVES other dogs (she had 2 of her own) and they wouldn’t have known that she doesn’t really like men (a hangover from her original “family” – although she is slowly getting better with that)! I just think what you guys do is AMAZING. You take on dogs that you know nothing about. Bring them into your homes, your families, love them, care for them, let their TRUE personality shine, and let them be who they REALLY are. Then you send them off on their journeys, to hopefully a better life than they came from.
  4. LOL thanks Golden Girls, but he is DESPERATE to get the dog out of the house as his son has SUDDENLY developed allergies, and even Friday is too far away!!! He emailed me again last night to say, someone else was interested in the dog and if i wanted her then I needed to organise it NOW! I didnt reply.
  5. Okay so i did and this is what i got Hi that will be great, but how soon will that be , as i told you earlier our son's health is not the best,so have just now to about Friday ok, really sorry about that really under a lot of pressure right now and more so i and my wife are really busy people,Cindy is so cool that any one could fall in love with her at first site, thanks for understanding, ????? Should i ask for his actual address??
  6. You girls do an amazing job with fostering. I dont know how you do it, but thank you for doing it. My girl is a rescue dog who was in foster first. She is the MOST AMAZING DOG, I love her to bits! I just wanted to say THANK YOU from all us mums that get the diamonds at the end!
  7. Yeah PowerLegs you would have thought he would have changed his name???? Clearly "Jerry Scott" is working for him!
  8. LOL I did email him and tell him that I would in fact be driving to Griffith in the VERY near future and i would pick Cindy up! LOL Waiting for a response.....
  9. Yeah Raz thats one thing that caught my eye too, it was he was appealing to the whole worlds population! I was reluctant to answer the first email, but i thought it didnt sound too dodgy he wasnt asking for money then. Then this came and Im like rightio! I said to my friend this is actually a well paying job, if you can get two people to do that a day thats $500 tax free dollars. The girl across from me was duped $650 yesterday via Gumtree!!!
  10. Yeah it actually makes me sick that people try this stuff. The girl who sits across from me at work actually got scammed on Gumtree. Poor thing. Can anyone recommend an Australian Shepherd breeder in South Australia? Cheers
  11. Yep it seems so.... Mr Jerry Scott 040 has also advertised dogs in the UK. Why are people so dodgy!!!!??????
  12. I responded to an ad that said that this gentleman had puppies for sale in Adelaide. I recieved this email from him. Hello, Thanks for your mail and your interest about my Puppies. i have a male called Roy and female called Cindy left from a litter of 5, they are 11 weeks old each, vet checked, registered , well trained and love the company of kids and other animals.they are very healthy and have all their complete documents. The reason why am giving out these Puppies is because my son is sick and very allergic to animals, so our doctor advised us to give out the Puppies .Honestly i do feel sad to give these Puppies away but i got no choice since our son health is very important to us. All i really want for the Puppies to move into a nice and caring home.i will love to ask some few questions before we proceed. Have you ever raised a Puppy before? do you have good experience with puppies? why are you looking for a Puppy? do you have a vet around your home? Are you interested in the male or female? how soon do you need the Puppy? Where are you located? Sorry if asking too many questions, i just want to be sure that you are going to provide the love and care needed for these Puppies Thanks and waiting for your kind reply. So I responded to his email, and gave him some details about my family, what sort of life i could give the dog, etc etc..... I then got this from him this morning: This is where I think its getting dodgy.... he asked where I was located.... I responded to an ad that said he was in Adelaide.... Hello Thanks for the urgent respond well i am very happy reading from you and i will like you to promise me you will take very good care of Cindy when she reaches your lovely home and Let me give you this secret that i use for my pets,You can boost your pet's health profoundly by making one simple decision.. All you have to do is change their diet from commercial-brand fare to something you may never have imagined giving them: real food. The fresh food you buy at the market for your self is the food you should give your pets too..."I feed my puppies with Fresh food. Fresh chicken and turkey and beef. Fresh raw vegetables and fruits. Fresh brown rice and oatmeal.. Fresh yogurt, eggs, and cottage cheese and my Vet approves it to be very healthy . Since i am located in Griffith, New South Wale all you will be paying will be for her flight and adoption papers to your location and that will cost you just $250 for the puppy so if you have the money ready i will be needing your full delivery details as follows: Full Names..... Home Address........ State/City/Zip Code......... Phone Number........ Closest Delivery Airport........ So as soon as i have all this information i will then take the puppy to the delivery company for registration and for a flight reservation to your location and as soon as i am done they will then contact or email you with the full reservation information and how you will be doing the payment to them so my dear i will keep you posted in each step i take okay i assure you that you have found another family member in your home and you will enjoy being with Her so do get back to me with the details so i can proceed with the delivery. Thanks and waiting to read from you soonest. Mr Jerry Scott He included photos of the puppy. Dodgy???!!! What should I do? Ignore it? Ask for his phone number?
  13. Again, thank you for your responses and time. I honestly have never considered a greyhound. But Ive just looked on GAPSA site and i could get used to it. Some of them are pretty cute.... We dont have a cat, and dont intend on getting one. Alkhe, why do greyhounds have to wear muzzles? Where would I find that info for SA? Are they good with children? That is my main concern. The muzzle image just screams danger to me... is there anywhere i can read up about them. I am going to email my rescue places in SA, although it wouldnt rule out an adoption from another state if the right dog came along. I just want to make sure its the right one... Do any of the rescue places in SA specifically do fostering arrangements, or is that something I have to ask?
  14. Thank you for all your responses... Is there a list of rescue places that I could approach and give my wish list and details to? I love the idea of the dog being in foster care first. That appeals to me ALOT. but where does this happen? I definately want to make sure the dog is the right fit for us, and we are the right humans for it....
  15. Thank you all soooo much for your responses. I am super excited about this now and not so scared about it….. Here are my responses. I just want to add, I TRULY believe that having a dog is a lifelong commitment. When I get a dog, they become a family member (even my little boy put on his family tree at childcare today my old girls name as a family member)! The other thing is I am a single mum, who works full time. I don’t want a puppy that I have to train, I honestly don’t have the time, and it wouldn’t be fair to the dog. It will get stacks of socialisation, we are heaps social people, but I just wouldn’t have time to actually train a puppy…. My wish-list: Child-friendly non-negotiable Loves little kids? (more than just puts up with them, wants to be around them a lot) YES!!! Do you know how excited I was to read this!!! My girl was 10 when my son came along, and she was great with him. She put up with a lot lol but it was pretty obvious she would have much preferred the old arrangement ie no kid lol How much walking will you do each day? Every day would be about half an hour, on the weekends we walk to the beach and back and that can take anywhere between 40mins to a couple of hours. We have a massive park just around the corner that we used to let the old girl off the lead and she would just run. How much grooming each week/day? Being realistic, it would have to be a weekly thing, on a weekend. I wouldn’t have time to do it each day. What other activities do you want to do with the dog? We are very social people, so I want a dog that gets along with other dogs and we can basically take everywhere. An integral part of the family Alert/watch dog, or a dog that is very quiet? Im not sure how to answer this. My old girl made me feel really safe at home. I knew if there was someone coming up our drive, or at the door before the doorbell rang (she was inside when we were, and outside when we were at work). So I want a dog that is alert, but not a barky yappy dog. Does that make sense? Have you ever had a dog with a high maintenance coat? By this I mean a non shedding coat ie malts, shihtzus etc. They need professional grooming and groomign by the owner. No I haven’t, and honestly this doesn’t really interest me. Are there any allergies in the family? No, my old girl was a GSD with a longer coat and shed like there was no tomorrow. LOL Do you have any other issues such as back problems which might hinder you from picking up or walking a dog? No issues, we walk quite alot Can you walk a dog as well as cope with a toddler? My little one is in the pram when we walk (at this stage) and my old girl would walk beside. We did well. Greyhounds are wonderful dogs, depending on your answers to the above! Really? I remember one of the girls at primary school had greyhounds and they used to be always locked up when we would go there, and the dad used to say cos the were vicious. That really scared me off them. These are some questions which will help you narrow down your search, I have many more Please, please ask them. This also has me thinking about it more thoroughly. I can say that isn't true. If I was only looking for one dog, I'd look for a dog I fell in love with (that fitted all my criteria) and I wouldn't care whether that was male or female, I've loved both equally. YES!!!! YES!!!! This is what I want. Now does anyone do this for husbands?? LOL Thanks for all your help!!!
  16. Im looking for a new dog, it has to be a rescue dog, as I cant fathom the idea of getting anything else! My last girl was a rescue dog, on death row when she was 4 months old, and she recently went to heaven at 13 So I have some questions. 1) How do you look through all the rescue dogs without crying your heart out? It seriously breaks my heart, and i want to take them all. 2) I now have a three year old son, which means i have to get a dog thats good with children (thats not negotiable) how do I find this, or how do i even know? My child is "dog trained" but he is still a toddler, so a dog would have to be tolerable to toddler behaviour. 3) I have been looking at some dogs in rescue organisations (online) in other states. How does interstate rehoming work? 4) Can someone give me some tips and hint on picking a new dog. I dont want a puppy, i want an older dog (dont think i can do a puppy and a toddler at the same time - see im realistic lol) This time its a bit different to when i got my girl as it was only me to think about.... 5) I am partial to female dogs, what is the difference between a male/female dog (besides the obvious lol) Thanks for all your help, im sure I will have more questions as i research this more....
  17. My 8 month old red heeler x is going in for desexing on Monday. She hasnt had a season yet. Is this bad that she is being desexed before she does? Any tips to make her op any nicer???? TIA
  18. Thanks for you reply. She is a red heeler x border collie x kelpie Bummer she just had her nobivac vaccination too. We're not due back for a year now. I might give them a call.
  19. hiya Our puppy is 11 weeks old now, and everytime we feed her she shakes! At first we thought it was excitment cos she didnt have to fight for food or share it. But still 5 weeks later she is doing the same thing. Any suggestions why? and what we can do to stop it? TIA
  20. We have a 10 year old GSD and have recently adopted a 10 week old red heeler. They are BOTH females. The GSD is desexed, the RH is too young (but will be as soon as she is old enough!!) And they BOTH have this very weird habit of licking each others private parts. Why? and can I stop it? And then my girl the GSD, wants to come and give us kisses ------ gross!!!!
  21. The reason this conversation came up at work today, was that she was telling me she was using a particular worming tablet that didnt cover tapeworm and of course her dog got tapeworm. and the pet store told her to use this Sentinel. What do you use to worm your dogs?
  22. Thank you, yes its Sentinel. No she doesnt get fleas - touch wood never had them. Why is that Poodlefan? Is it too hard on their guts???
  23. Hi there, I was talking to a lady at work today, and she was talking to a petshop owner. Apparently there is a tablet that dogs can take for fleas and worms - a combination tablet. Does anyone know what this is called? Thanks
  24. If you want someone who will eat whatever you put in front of him, and never say its not quite as good as his mothers . . . then buy a dog. If you want someone always willing to go out, at any hour, for as long and wherever you want ... . . . then buy a dog. If you want someone who will never touch the remote, doesn't care about football, and can sit next to you as you watch romantic movies . . . then buy a dog. If you want someone who is content to get on your bed just to warm your feet and whom you can push off if he snores . . . then buy a dog! If you want someone who never criticizes what you do, doesn't care if you are pretty or ugly, fat or thin, young or old, who acts as if every word you say is especially worthy of listening to and loves you unconditionally, perpetually . . . . . . then buy a dog. BUT, on the other hand . . . If you want someone who will never come when you call, ignores you totally when you come home, leaves hair all over the place, walks all over you, runs around all night and only comes home to eat and sleep, and acts as if your entire existence is solely to ensure his happiness . . .. . . . then buy a cat! Now be honest, you thought I was gonna' say... marry a man, didn't you!!!
  25. Just wondering how jessie is????
