  1. Well not counting a malinois because I currently have one... Rottweiler (had 2 previously, really want another) Irish Wolfhound (fell in love with a pair of them at the obedience club I trained at as a kid) (the breeds that I really definitely want) (and the 'perhaps one day's) Maybe another variety of Belgian Shepherd (a Terv or Groen) Or a nice Dutchie Staffy Bull Terrier Maybe a Newf or a Saint Or a Pug LOL I would love to have a team of sled dogs (Huskies or Malamutes), but I don't want to live in the snow :P I have fallen in love with CharlesWentworth's Emmy (Japanese Spitz), too! Ummmm I may have gone over 10 LOL
  2. My old girl used to have some pretty severe allergies, animals (cats and dogs) were one of them, but I was pretty young at the time. I do remember her getting a series of treatments for it, I think they were injections, but whatever it was it apparently worked pretty well. I have a mild allergy to cats, but it's only cats I don't know - and I will get used to cats that I tend to see frequently (say once a week, or live with them), so I've never bothered about trying to get it treated. Hope you can find something that works for you!
  3. One Belgian Shepherd Malinutcase and a Troop Carrier here (So 'large' dog, and 'large 4WD'). It's sort of suitable for the dog, because I haven't managed to get the dog cage/bed frame that I want in the back fabricated up for me, and now as I've lost my job, it probably won't happen for quite some time The malinut thinks the front seat is his, and loves it there, but for work purposes I had to shove a plastic airline crate in the back and transport him in that I have to say my vehicle would be 100x more awesome if the godsdamn wheel arches didn't get in the way of EVERYTHING Have also thought about getting a false floor with drawers and hatches put in to make use of all available space, but I am reluctant to do so as I really like the extra height in the back, especially as I am about to live in the thing again... :/
  4. Bugger Daisy, I hope you're feeling better real soon, tooth aches and mouth pain in general is the worst Well, we drove 5mins up the road today to a nice flat empty sports field LOL Managed to complete c25k week 4 day 2 :D and I let the malinut have a pretty good free run as 90% of the field was fenced, and there was noone else around (he just runs in big circles around me anyway), so he had a ball as well I think next time we go down there I will take something to throw, so I can launch it into the middle of the field for him while I do my laps around the outside. Keep up the good walking, everyone!
  5. The Alice may yet be an option, I'm not ruling anything out at this stage...
  6. Most of the advice here seems to have come from people who either live or have lived in NT, I guess being wary of crocs becomes second nature after you've been there a while, and you don't consciously think about it, and therefor it'd be easy to forget to mention? Guess the malinut is going to have to learn how NOT to swim, unless there is some sort of isolated freshwater swimming area for the dogs up there?
  7. You've just answered your own question ;) Follow the suggestions to make sure he is worn out, and toileted frequently, and you will be more than fine
  8. I will make sure I pack the rubber mallet then :P
  9. Nawww Great story, thanks for posting!
  10. If I thought I was going to have income for the next 6 months I would re-sign I honestly don't know where or when I will end up working next - even if I end up with something elsewhere in Brissy I don't want to be stuck in Ipswich and have to commute 100+k's a day to get to work and back - troopys don't make good commuters and tolls are baddd, mmkay? :/ If Darwin doesn't work out I will probably end up back in Townsville, anyway >_<
  11. I am not a fan of spam :P I have always been function over form and quality over quantity :P Darwin is sounding better and better... I went in to the estate agents today and paid up my last month of rent til the lease ends (6th of next month) as I really don't want to break the lease :/ But I can't decide if i should stick it out here until the lease is up, or just get my crap sorted and hit the road... And I still can't decide whether to sell my motorbike or not (I really do want to keep it but I could definitely do with the cash - plus I hardly seem to get a chance to ride the bugger, and getting it to NT would be a pain!)
  12. So long as the insects stay OUT of my car, we won't have a problem LOL Edit: Gah, somehow managed to hit the post button.... >_< Thanks for all the responses If I do head up that way I will probably be looking to stay, as I would like to try to get into NTPOL, I haven't managed to get my shit together for the intake that closes on the 14th, so I'll have to get it all organised for the next one Have applied for a few jobs up there, will see if any of them get back to me... Rang the old girl this evening and told her I was planning on heading that way, she seems to think I'll like it up there Hopefully I'll be able to get a job that pays decently, but so long as we're both able to eat I will be happy LOL And I do seriously doubt the malinut could ever get fat - he burns wayyy too much energy every day, I have trouble keeping weight on him most of the time! Spoke to a caravan park about 20mins out of Darwin on the phone, they claim to be 'dog friendly' but said they usually only allow small dogs and may or may not approve of the malinut I don't really mind staying in the car so long as I can find somewhere in the shade to park... and if I could possibly make use of someone's laundry facilities once a week or so instead of having to use a laundromat that'd be great - but we'll cross that bridge if I do head up that way
  13. Sounds awesome, thanks! I will most likely end up living in my car for a while (allready spent 6 weeks in it with the malinut) - I have a troopy so it's just like camping LOL Have sent a resume to a company up there, will see if they get back to me... Being a bit isolated doesn't really bother me, either I'm almost tempted to just sort all my shit out, throw it all in the car and head up there while I still have money left for diesel... Edit to add: I have spent a lot of my life in townsville, so I have some idea of the climate up in Darwin (though I reckon it'd be a fair bit more humid, ugh). 7 posts? ooh ooh time for a spam rampage ROFL (nahhh I hate posting crap LOL)
  14. Sorry I can't yet put this in this mythical Off-Topic I keep hearing about... But I am considering relocating for work, as my current company lost a large contract and I am now out of a job Is anyone here from NT? What's it like up there in terms of things to do with dogs? What's the lifestyle like? If I can't find something soon I am going to end up on the damn dole again >_< *sigh*
  15. Sigh. I knew I'd left it too long in between runs I just have a major case of the CBF's lately with losing my job and all :/ c25k week 4 day 2 failed. Managed the first 3min run and then got to about the 2min mark in all the rest and had to stop because I was seeing stars. The hilly terrain probably didn't help much either >_< I think next time I shall drive us to a nice flat sports field and do laps.... At least we had a good long walk this morning, all up I think about 1hr 20mins
  16. 'The Nose' this morning before I put some Illium cream on it... best shot I could get, he wanted to know if I was going to throw my phone, if not then could he please get back to searching for his (put away for the day) new ball...
  17. If I could see that the dog had not dribbled all over the food, yeah, I'd eat it I have no problems with removing a dog hair or two from a meal and continuing to eat it, or letting the dog finish leftovers off my own plate (but it gets a good wash before it has human food on it again), but I'm not overly keen on the idea of possible drool on food LOL I love Greytmate's idea of a lidded basket, I reckon the oldschool picnic basket style would be cutest, but could possibly be harder for the dog to carry around depending on the length of the basket. Very cute idea, but yes, do be aware and prepared for the people who will find it to be not so much to their liking...
  18. Thanks all for the comments on the malinut (photo 15), he was such a shit and wouldn't sit still, I was trying to get him to put his ears up for me and it turned into barking for his tug instead LOL Thanks also to Rocco for getting these up so quickly, I really do hope you got the shots you needed for your main photo that you are planning!! No doubt there will be a lot of happy owners with these shots, they're beautiful
  19. I have been Captain Slack the last few days still haven't gone out and done day 2 of week 4... It was raining yesterday though :/ This afternoon.... LOL
  20. Hahaha typical bloody malinois, can't sit still! Shame the light was fading so fast, still some great shots there!!
  21. Elephant ball? Looks suspiciously like one of those yoga/exercise ball things LOL I think the malinut would manage to get his little teethy-pegs into anything that had any give at all, and wreck it :/ I bought him one of those over-sized tennis balls, a basket-ball sized one, it didn't even make it out of the shop before it had a hole in it >_< He still thinks it's great, but he annoys the hell out of me because when he is playing with it he picks it up and shakes it like a mad thing, usually right in my face when I am trying to put my boots on before work... so now it and the other smaller rubber ball that I used to leave in the yard have been put up where he can't reach them, and the new enduro ball is the only one I plan to leave out, so when we go outside he can play with that instead of annoying me, LOL (FTR, he doesn't spend much time outside unsupervised, and when he is out on his own he generally leaves his toys alone anyway)
  22. Cool, some happy dogs in those vids
  23. Thanks for your comments, Stolz that looks like some happy rotts you have there I will just keep an eye on him when he plays for now. Got some crappy video on my phone this morning, lets see if youtube will 'play ball'... ahahaha... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wpOzqi6Ycfg
  24. So I bought one of THESE for the malinut yesterday arvo. I let him loose with it in the front yard this morning, he absolutely loves it and I think it's great because he can't pick it up, and therefore can't shake it and smash me with it, LOL He can still, however, run it into my ankles at great speed, which really hurts >_< I've noticed though that after about 10mins of play the top of his nose has gone all red and looks rather sore So I went and caught him and put him away in his crate. I'm guessing he will 'toughen up' over time and that I should just monitor his play for now so he doesn't do too much damage to himself? Does anyone else here have one? What have your experiences been?
  25. I have to agree, your dog is awesome. The focus and up and go he has is wonderful. I really admire this working breed. Aww, thanks :D He says thanks for the dog bikky, too! I gave it to him in his crate once he'd settled down some at home, he didn't want to eat it at first, but after I threatened to eat it myself he ate it, and then spent a good 5mins snuffling for all the crumbs he'd spread everywhere, so he must've enjoyed it LOL As much as the little bugger shits me to tears, and it might look like I am always cranky with him (because he is such a loon in public), I really do love my nutcase Agreed! Huski, Daisy is definitely not boring :P You have done very well with her
