due this Saturday.........Maternity haircut on Monday night & my mentor predicted babies today. Still no temp drop, no change in behaviour, no change in appetite. She has milk & had a slight showing on Monday afternoon. Have double checked that I have all the whelping supplies I need (about 100 times). Constantly checking her belly to make sure the babies are still moving. WAITING SUCKS! LOL ETA - My mentor is concerned that she doesnt quite have a big enough pelvis to whelp naturally.........Vets number on speedial just in case! Can you clarify what you mean by "slight showing" please? They were my mentor's words. I took it to mean that the area around her vulva was a little mucky - not from urine but from a clear discharge that had caused a little bit of her fur to stick together.

What's The Most Ridiculous Thing Your Dog's Been Called?
Rayvale replied to ~Rumour~'s topic in General Dog Discussion
Just have to give you a SLAP for that one! LOL Smooth coat Chi = Rat according to all who know me But interestingly, the long coat Chi on the other lead often gets - "What breed is that?" ;) -

Hi, There is a hugh misconception that just because you have the same breed, that most people in your chosen breed will be warm, fuzzy, friendly, welcoming and encouraging..... well this is true to the point of someone being beaten......then it can get seriously plain and ugly. Obviously the problem isn't with the new people but the old exhibitors who feel their turf is being threaten...........my answer to this when I was a new exhibitor was to cut these people dead, I just stopped talking to them. The people who did this to me were always the ones who came up being so called friendly but always has some tacky back handed comment. The majority of friends I have do not have my breed and I had to sifted through a fair bit of chaff to find my breed mentors. I remember being extremely upset and in tears after another tacky comment from the same exhibitor who always did this.....someone from my breed came up to me and said.........'listen, dont worry, dog showing is a hobby , a past time it doesn't take you to the Olympics and it is not for a sheep station, and would you invite that person to your house for dinner, if the answer is no, why bother having anything to do with them.......you dont have to like someone just because they have the same breed'. With 30+ years experience, now, I give people a couple of chances first, if you are fair and polite to me, I'll be the same to you, also if anything comes back to me via gossip I front these people immediately. I have had alot of fun showing dogs, made lots of good friends.........dog showing seems to concentrate on the negative...........we always remember the bad things, and I think if we analysed our time in the hobby there are more good times than bad..........even when your new and yes some degree of hardening up does have to happen, but this happens with experience also. Well Said - and spot on in my opinion! beautiful piece of advice & one I will remember to share from now on -

Note said show training resumed 1/2/11 - but I would have to think that they would not have held classes last night or tonight due to the heat! We won't be going till next week at the earliest!

I have Chi's and bought mine from Petbarn a couple of years ago. It has seen plenty of shows and puppies. The only drawback is that the clips that hold each panel together bend very easily - so I just replaced them with cable ties and it is as solid as a rock.

RV - I know that someone mentioned it before in passing, but have you considered a Lagotto Romagnolo? Gundog = tick Laid back = tick Intelligent = tick And the ones that my daughter handles are quite happy to just kick back and run along with the other dogs in their group. (I dont know about agility suitability as they only do conformation showing). If I ever went back to a larger breed this is the breed for me! :D

Funnily enough I noticed an exhibitor who is very vocal about the evils of bum running run up someone else's bum recently. Must only be a dirty trick when someone else does it. But the person whose bum they ran up had already done a very naughty crowd in the challenge line up with their bum basically hanging over the dog in front so I didn't feel sorry for them either. The games people play. You gotta or you'd ~~mental image~~ Dog or handler? ROLMAO!

they must feel intimidated by you i set up a bit away form the dog in fornt allows room to move up if this happens my show trianer told me this one. LOL - I dont think so, but it is a nice way to look at it! The setting up part is easy to deal with its the crowding on the move that I think is slack! I have seen her do it to a junior showperson as well - Makes you wonder why they come?
-
Im still considered a noob - only showing for the last 12 months........ BUT, my pet peeve is when long time exhibitors will crowd your dog on the move and on the stand while behind you to put your dog off - if intimidation is your best show asset then do you really need to be showing! Have had it done to me and have seen it done to friends - very un-necessary!

* LEARNING - More about my breed How to handle better Rules (official or otherwise) around the ring About other breeds that I would not otherwise see * SHARING - Food Stories * SOCIALISING Need I say more? * Working Out What Different Judges Look For In Your Breed Oh - and of course there's the actual showing of your dog on any given day - isn't that why we go! LOL

It can happen to ANYONE. I will not continue with a line with inertia, so none of my bitches needed caesarians for that. No one can guarantee that it wouldn't impact on them ..... unless they weren't breeding. Ahhh Jed, the more and more I read on DOL about regulations, rules, more power & restrictions on breeders, etc, etc.........I believe that might be the "End Game"! No Breeders = No Problems....

I have an idea - let the Diva come live with me & I will send the No Tail one over in her place!! Hope all turns out ok chicky (as I am sure it will)! Give her some cuddle time from me!

Show lead for showring only for me. I walk the Chi's on a harness at all other times. Much kinder on their necks and as awful as this sounds - I had a HUGE rotti charge out from a front yard one walk at one of my girls and it was just reflex that made me jerk the lead up and lift her into my arms away from the rotti. I hate to think what it would have done to her neck and windpipe if she had been walking on a show lead! I also advise pet puppy buyers to use a harness as well instead of collar & leash (ferret harnesses are great!)
