Which Breed Makes The Cutest Puppies?
PoppyDog replied to Henrietta's topic in General Dog Discussion
I came in here just to cluck over all the puppy photos! I think they are all super duper adorable! Here is one of Poppy at about 10 weeks of age. She's a CKCS X and I am biased but think she was sooooooooo adorable!!! -
More Questions About My Foster Boy - Huey!

Missed this before! Poppy will be quarantined. I did take he to the vet for her 12 moth booster because she was due for it and I was worried that holding off would be bad. Spoke to the vet about the whole situation though so he was aware she may be carrying it. We won't be taking her anywhere and won't be having any doggy friends over either! Even though I was told by the rescue group I could keep fostering just as long as they were vaccinated dogs! *rolls eyes* -

I agree. I think it's admirable that they are literally trying to save them all but the realistic situation is that they simply cannot save them all! So wouldn't it be better to make sure the ones they do save are vaccinated before being sent to foster homes AND that their foster carers are supported, that they meet with them before the become carers, check in on them via phone and email regularly and in person as often as possible. -

Thanks TLC. On Saturday I read that he had vomitted up the food they offered on Friday so he would go another 2 days on no food and then they would try again. They deleted my comment where I asked how he was after they commented they had been trying to call me for days and I replied saying there had only been 1 missed call from them last Thursday when they left a message. When I tried to call them back there was no answer. Admittedly I didn't leave a message but I thought the missed call log on the mobile would of meant they would of called me back again. But no contact other than me initiating it on their FB page! So dissapointing! But have had lots of lovely PM's from members on here and even people on FB saying they won't be doing fostering for them again after they have had negative experiences too. -
No advice but am interested in this too!

I've read this whole thread and been looking on the Stayz website... But wondering if anyone knows of some accommodation that would suit our wants... OH and I want to go away for 1 night (or 2) for our 3 year anniversary. We'd like to take Poppy with us too. We want 4 or 5 star type accommodation that allows Poppy inside. We'd like a big king bed and a spa bath (inside or out). We also want a nice big TV with DVD player. Somewhere within 2 -3 hours of Brisbane. Somewhere nice to eat out. Am I dreaming???

More Questions About My Foster Boy - Huey!
PoppyDog replied to PoppyDog's topic in General Dog Discussion
Poppy got her C5 booster today and I talked to my vet about what had happened. I also asked about whether we should be holding off on vaccinating Poppy but he explained the C5 is not a live vaccine and will not increase the risk of Poppy suffering from Parvo if she is carrying it. He told me he very much doubts that Poppy will get the virus and said that in the off chance that she does it wouldn't be as severe as it would be for an unvaccinated dog. So that was a big relief. He told me he was surprised that Huey wasn't vaccinated before coming to me and said he ha never heard of a rescue group that didn't vaccinate before putting dogs in foster homes. I haven't heard anything about how Huey is going since Thursday morning. Been trawling through the FB page trying to see if I can find info! Last I read he was being offered some food so I guess that's a positive sign! Hope he makes a full recovery and finds an amazing forever home!!! -

Thanks! They haven't informed me of ANYTHING!!! I haven't heard from them since 9am this morning when I called them to tell them he had tested positive for Parvo!!! What should I be expecting of this group in terms of support? Should I be expecting them to supply me with the chemical you mentioned that needs to be ordered from the vet? Should I send an email outlining my concerns and informing them I will not be fostering. OH and I don't even want to bring Huey home if he recovers. We feel like this whole ordeal has traumatised us a little and we want someone else to care for him and find him a loving forever home. I don't think fostering is for us. We were attached and all ready to adopt Huey even thought in hindsight now wasn't the best time (with the wedding coming up etc). I've sent numerous emails to the coordinator and got NO response in the past few days. I have had to call HER with concerns. Am really dissapointed!!! -

Huey is at the vet being treated. The rescue group is footing the bill! I didn't realize they were not operating in an ethical way by getting us to collect straight from the pound! What do I need to do to protect Poppy in terms of cleaning and treating our yard? -

Farrrrrk!!! I am so angry and upset!!! He tested pos for Parvo! How is it that they don't test for that before he leaves the pound??? I was told he was given a clear bill of health!!! We are going to bleach our house from top to bottom! Throw his bedding and possibly the crate too! God I hope Poppy will be okay! The vet said she shouldnt get it as she is vaxed. I don't want to do this again!!! -

Okay so no vaccine tomorrow! Should Poppy take a course of AB's if he does as a precautionary measure? Will ask the vet! -

He hasn't served anytime in quarantine that I know of. We sprung him straight from the Warra Animal Shelter. Not sure if his vac is up to date as he was a stray. Will get his vac tomorrow at the vet though if he is well enough. Poppy is completely vacc'd so apparently it's less likely she will catch it. He's sleepy and not eating but other than that happy and affectionate and had been playing with Poppy but he is waaaay less energetic than her! Poor little guy. -
We picked up our first foster (we may adopt him!) boy Huey last night. He's a 1 year old (they think) CKCS. He's been sneezing a lot and won't eat at all! We've tried dry food, dry food and milk, a schmaco and natures gift wet food. Oh and OH offered him a bit of cheese! He didn't want any of it! So I called the rescue group coordinator and she asked us to check his teeth. They seem fine. Then she suggested kennel cough! So we have him crated to keep him away from Poppy and to give him space becuse she just wants to play with him and he's so sleepy. Will also be getting him a vet Appt tomorrow! Any other advice???
-
Thanks everyone! Will correct him from now on! Will be crating him tonight because I'm not sure if he is house trained. I don't know if he is used to being crated but he has been in a pound so hoping he just sleeps happily in it! He is VERY calm and placid! WAAAAAY more than Poppy is which makes me think he is older than she is but who knows! I don't know if we can give him up but we will see! Oh and as for following the rules so far he has been VERY obedient! He knows sit and down. He doesn't DARE jump on the couch (which is something we allow anyway) and when we brought him up for a cuddle he snuggled us then jumped back down! He was definitely someones pet! So sad!!!

So we've only ever had Poppy. Our desexed CKCS X who is 15 months old. We've got our first foster boy today (who we may adopt!) who is a CKCS boy who they think is also a year old. I think he might be older than that ... not sure. Anyway, he's not desexed yet, the rescue group said they will prob do that in a week when he is settled in. He's trying to mount Poppy and hump her. Not sure if she knows his intent but shes making it clear shes not into that. She hasn't snapped at him but she has moved in a way that knocks him off as soon as he jumps up. Anyway...my Q is...Do I say "NO!" when he does this? And will he still do it when he is desexed???

Can anyone reccomend me a good dog groomer that would come to my house? Poppy has only ever had two grooming experiences. One terrible the other great! The great one is a salon about 40 minutes away from us though and so we have found it hard to get back there! She just needs a trim for her coat, bath, nails trimmed all that! Thanks!

What do you mean? Am thinking of using it in conjuction with a 6ft wooden fence to stop Poppy from going up onto the retaining wall and around onto the pebbles? Well You didnt mention that part in the first post, so people are assuming you meant as a boundary system. Not sure how me mentioning that in my first posts relates to my question about AdoubleJ's response. I was asking for clarification what she said about the dog "breaking the barier" and not being so keen to re-enter. Thanks! I didn't realise it worked by electric shock! I thought it was a high frequency sound wave type thing. Will explore other ways of blockin off these areas!

Does anyone use one of these. The type that you install in your yard and use in conjunction with a collar that your dog wears? Can anyone tell me about them? TIA!

I agree that pet ownership is a personal thing and the way different people interact and relate to their dogs will vary! We refer to Poppy as our fur baby and to ourselves as Mummy and Daddy! Poppy sleeps on our bed, is allowed on the couch when invited and comes with us on outings occasionally! She also knows who the boss is, listens to the commands we give, spends time outside being a dog and enjoys the company of othe dogs! I don't think the fact that some people "humanize" their dogs makes them better or worse owners than those who don't! Different strokes for different folks and all that!

I just had a really good look at her nosey nose and the pink area doesn't look as cobbled as the black area. It is hard to see in the artificial light though... What does loss of architecture mean??? In terms of the problem???

Should of said... We have secured the yard! Well and truly secured! We rent so we cannot build a run. I'd pick her up on my way home from work.. There is a doggy daycare about 35mins from us, maybe 20mins from our work. I think I might try that first. The stranger from a classified thing does worry me! :D
