I have spoken to a dog behaviourist on the telephone since posting this, who has suggested tat it is attention seeking, rather Han anxiety. Nothing has overly changed in my routine to explain the exhibited behaviour

HELP!!!! I have two CKCS's. one is carefree and happy whilst the other is a complete stress head. Lately his behaviour has got much worse, and I am talking scratching doors to the point where I need to putty and repaint etc... Basically, for the sake if the both if us this behaviour cannot go on..... The only chance I can think of is going back to work in the last month after having some extensive time off having a baby who is almost two years old, but I am only gone four days a week, and the dogs have always been used to me coming and going to do shopping etc... He constantly barks while I am heating the car up and whines if he knows I am going anywhere. This behaviour on,y used t be exhibited during thunder storms and gunshots. I don't want onto resort to Valium or other sedating drugs, but does anybody have any possible solutions for me as I am at my wits end and its breaking both our hearts Your help is much appreciated

Good morning, I was wondering if there are any disadvantages to weekly b12 injections for a cavalier. Wanting to know if other users have benefited from this practice and your reasons for giving it. My reasons would centre around stress alleviation, increasing appetite and energy levels. I was wondering if this was enough of an indication, or whether it should only be used if a dog is anaemic? You help and feedback is appreciated

Hi, I clarified with the vet tonight who said its affecting t11, t12 and t13, so 3 vertebrate, and yes he called it IVDD also, not finding much information about it on the internet though. HE has been placeed on a course of prednisolone as the cartropen in the past was not succuesful.

Is that the disc disease? Maybe? Vet just mentioned bluging discs?? Might give hime a quick call for clarification

Hi all, Got my cav xrayed yesterday and it turns out he has two bulging discs??? T11 and T13 Apparently it can be a common problem with cav's. Has anybody had any experience dealing with this problem and likley prognosis for the dog? An help is much appreciated. He has currently been placed on cortisone to see how this goes over the next two weeks.

His heart has always been fine, even his last check, but this will be done on Wednesday morning when we hae the x rays done, but this would not explain the urinating on himself would it?

He is 10kg, not overwight but not trim either. I have seen a chiro, Neil Maurer a few months ago, which I forgot to mention, so yeah done that.... He never liked it either mind you. I just want my playful boy back.... ;)

Hello all, I have a 3 year old cav who walks around like he is over 10 years old (slow and weary). He seems to have no drive or energy. Some days are better than others and if I coax him enough then he seems to play or run around with me. I am uncertain if he has a problem with his spine, or whether he just prefers to lay around and sleep his life away. A vet visit a few months ago revealed a warm spot along his spine where he was prescribed a course of cartrophen, which I dont think has helped as he still has the warm inflamed area on his spine. Will an x ray diagnose anything in particular for me? Also of late he has been weeing all over his belly and front legs when he cocks his leg, which has never previously been an issue for him. This is what makes me think that he may have a spinal problem. Does anybody have any ideas or suggestions as to what this may be? I have him booked in for x rays later in the week, but I guess I am just a little impatient and after feedback and ideas from other DOLers Any help would be much appreciated

Oh I like that idea, So stick to my 2 chicken necks per day (1 in morning and one at night) and how much pumpkin do you say?

All fantastic ideas thanks very much. I think its just the change in lifestyle, we just got back from a 6km walk and I am the one who is suffering now, not him. He loves his walks. I dont think he has a thyroid problem as he was not long ago checked. But its definately something Ill have checked out once I have this baby - currently overdue so not travelling too far at the moment and my vet is an hour away. In the meantime Ill stick to the royal canin light??? Is this a good food for a dieting dog? And Ill slow up on the chicken necks a little as well?

Good morning all!!!! I have a cav who now weighs 10.7kg and it has slowly been creeping up. He is not as active as he once was, especially winter, preferring to sleep in front of the fire. Moving into a house in the suburbs may not have helped either as he originally had 10 acres of backyard.... The problem is I dont seem to be feeding him much. I have had him on a diet for a few weeks now which consists of one meal of 2 chicken necks and a tiny handful or sprinkle of royal canin light food. Surely this is not too much? Ok, I am trying to walk him more but am currently overdue to have a baby so not venturing far from home. What else can I possibly do to get the weight off him? Once bubs is here I plan on walking him lots everyday, but I am after some suggestions food wise. I am desperate now and want him to lose around 2kg. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
