  1. *slaps forehead* why didnt i think of that lol thanks guys
  2. So for the moment my dogs are flea free but as it starts to warm up I know the little buggers are gonna come looking to hitch a ride on the fur kids! As they are all diff weights and sizes (I have 4 and my partner has a boxer puppy and will be moving in with me shortly) buying frontline for eg is waaaaay too expensive as no pet shops or vets in my area sell them seperately due to safety issues. I have heard something about a flea injection so I was just looking for some more info on it like how long it last, how much it costs and if it even works. Any info would be appreciated
  3. There were 3 in the bed and the hairy one said roll over, roll over hahaha VERY cute! My bed looks like this most mornings but there's 4 dogs and 2 people!
  4. My partner recently brought a Boxer puppy. He'll be 14 weeks this saturday. OUr friends have his sister from the same littler so we plan on having them spend a lot of time together so both dogs with be desexed to avoid the obvious! So we cant decide at what age its best to desex? Some say its best to wait til they're mature (12 monthsish) so they fill out well and others say it doesnt matter....opinions please
  5. LOOOOOVE THE PICS!!! Me too me too!!! How dare they be so sweet! My partner recently got a Boxer pup. I already have 4 of my own dogs but the smallest is my Chi, Pablo. He's only 25cm long if that and weighs 1.1kgs so I wasnt sure if it would work having this lanky 5.6kg Boxer pup playing with my little man but its actually been great! It seems Pablo is the boss already and we've been semi successful at training the Boxer to lie down while playing with the Chi. If its gets too much for Pablo he just makes for higher ground (like mummy's arms lol) or grabs his jowls haha Thats my experience so far
  6. Good idea about buying home brand pads! He cocks his leg but its only ever a few drops. Ive used several products that are SUPPOSED to deter a dog from peeing, none of which contained amonia as im aware that smells like wee to them...and cats!
  7. A few seconds before I read this comment I had just finished picking up Pablo's clothes and toys lol
  8. I dont think its a case of not being toilet trained, i think its definately a marking his dominance kind of issue. Im going to try the belly bands and see how they go cos I may want to show or stud him in the future...im biased but he's 25cm x 25cm of pure handsomeness!
  9. Thanks for the great advice Sas, I've checked out the belly bands and they look prefect, hopefully I can get one small enough as he's only 25cm x 25cm!
  10. I should re-phrase, he doesnt have accidents inside its like he deliberately saves some after being outside as he'll just do a few drops
  11. So in essence he'll pee on himself lol I actually didnt get him direct from the breeder, its a long story but the person who had him first had NO idea, she was feeding him adult "my dog" food! As for training, he's good while im at work but when I get home ill take him out (refuses to use the doggy door like the other 3 even without the flap on) he'll do several wees but then comes back inside and does a few more drops here and there.
  12. What's a belly band? I got him when he was already a few months old which is why training has been harder plus I've never had a Chi so not too experienced with them but my other 3 dogs are really good
  13. So Pablo (my chi) will be 1 next month and I had put off desexing him as I planned on showing him but have never really had the time so he's just going to be a family pet. He marks inside the house ALL the time (I also have 2 other males both of which are desexed) so I assume he's marking his territory which is clearly unacceptable. And yes before anyone asks he does get repremanded when I catch him and I've tried to teach him to "toilet" on command but that's proving difficult. So in short my question is....will desexing him now stop the problem or is it a 50/50 chance?
  14. My 10 - in no particular order 1. German Shepherd (used to have one) 2. Shih Tzu (have one now) 3. Great Dane 4. Cane Corso 5. Chi (have one now) 6. Daxi (have a cross now) 7. Dogue De Bordeaux 8. American Staffy 9. Malamute 10. Boxer (white preferably)
  15. Haha i love it! If you want to see the real heroes of the police force watch channel 9 on Sunday's at 7pm - my new favourite show!
  16. Hey, first of all, if that's Pablo in the little picture there, he is one cutie... I have a few questions though. Firstly, does your dog challenge you in any other ways or does he respect you as leader? Does he walk properly on a lead, behave around meal times, obey you etc. When you say you catch him in the act and put him straight outside, do you also tell him no and ensure he understands that you disapprove of the behaviour? Do you have him trained to go on command? And do you give the command when you take him outside? I have an entire male too and I can tell you it's possible to train them not to mark in the house, but you do need to ensure your dog knows you're the boss, with no doubt, and then also that they again have no doubt about what you do and don't want them to do. Yes that is the boy in question in my profile pic! I should firstly state I got Pablo at 5 months of age and he had NO obedience whatsoever. In the 2 months ive had him he's learnt sit and stay and will walk on a leash no problem now. My other 2 males (and one female) are all desexed so ive never had this problem and they're all what i would consider to be trained quite well and respect me as the leader. Pablo on the other hand is proving to be difficult. Ive never owned a Chi and as he's the smallest thing on the planet i find it hard to repremand him. When he marks inside i will tell him NO in a very stern voice, place him on the grass and wait til he goes but have not yet taught him a command to "go".
  17. Hey guys, Pablo has discovered a new exciting bad habit he's decided to pick up....cocking his leg on anything and everything inside! I dont know why he's started doing this all of a sudden and its driving me crazy. None of the other dogs wee inside and we have a doggy door im trying to get him used to but he's taken out regulariy. Even after he comes inside from doing a million wees, its like he saves just enough so he can do more inside. Ive caught him in the act several times and each time I put him straight out on the grass but this doesnt seem to be working. Any thoughts would be appreciated ETA I am not desexing him as I am training him for show
  18. thanks guys, i showed her the breeder pages and she's picked a breeder she likes the look of and has emailed them enquiring when the next litter is - she couldnt be more excited!
  19. Hi guys im on a mission and need some help. My friend was going to buy a brown and white boxer puppy from the trading post of all places for $1000 but I convinced her otherwise and explained to her all about BYB. My mission is to find her a boxer pup as cute as the one she saw but so far can only find white or brindle. She doesnt mind the red ones but doesnt like them with black markings. Does anyone know of any breeders in QLD or just over the NSW border with pups coming up?
  20. If he/she was having trouble getting used to the new name you could always find something that rhymes?? When I got HoneyChild her name was Cocoa so anytime I wanted to call her I would say CocoaHoney and she soon learnt Honey was her name
  21. 3 of my dogs do that, as I have a "pack" I knew I had to assert my place as leader early on in their lives so now if they're in trouble they show submissive behaviour until they know Im happy with them again
  22. I havent really taught him not to use the stairs, he simply cant as they're too high. The most he will do is reach up and put his front paws on the first step. He's decided he's found a fun new "game"...hiding under the bed when its time for me to go to work in the mornings, he wont come out not even for a treat so I have to lift the matress up and he comes flying out...funny but highly annoying lol
