  1. Hi Whipitgood. We are on 50 acres and have a couple of areas especially made for our Dogs. One area is approx 14m x 6m, an area inside is decked where there is two kennels ( this gives them the chance to relax by themselves, which often happens ), there is a fake grass beside the decking a large Manchurian Pear tree in the middle that we bought mature for shade in summer and the guys will sleep under it. Then the rear area has rocks ( just part of the landscape here ) and we spread straw down and in summer we moisten on hot days if we are going out and they are locked in their run. The fencing we used was treated pine pailings with a couple of two-three meter openings where we used square thick wire so they could look out at the view ( cows and horses to them ). We placed chicken wire like you would for rabbit proofing, and since Buster has been bitten by several snakes have tried our best to snake proof the area. We have a carport which extends over part of the area for shade etc and shade cloth over another part, what this does is gives different areas at different times of the day shade, we will often come home to find Shadow ( Black Lab ) in the shade, Charli semi shade and Buster basking in the sun and all within inches of each other. They obvioulsy love the area because when we are on our way out and want them to go into their Run we just say ' Ok in your Run' and they all head straight to the door. We feel very confident that when we are not home that our dogs are safe and happy. By the way they have toys, balls etc to play with. We also have Wedge Tail Eagles, Kite Hawks and other amasing Bird life living within and around our property so we have a Domed Mirror ( same as a Shop mirror used for watching thiefs ) on top of their kennel as we have always been very paranoid that an eagle would swoop down and pick one of the little guys up. We recently fenced of what we call our 'Weekend Yard' to contain our dogs whilst we were out in the garden this area is about 1/2 an acre and we can confidently allow them to roam around on grassed areas, decking, next to the house, back in their run if they wish etc and enjoy being a dog whilst we pottered in the garden, this has stopped the little ones from escaping of into the sunset and has given us peace of mind knowing that they are not getting into mischeive or worse still finding a snake and getting bitten. I can send you some pics if you like PS your dogs will love the open spaces and so will you.
  2. We took Charli and Buster to a private session in Albury and can say it's well worth it. Edit: Our session was not to do with rescue ( Should have read first, silly me ) was for their behaviour. anyway it was great!
  3. Hi there, Just measured my two - my girl is about 24 1/2 - 25" from neck to base of tail, my boy (who is quite tall) is 27" from neck to tail. Hope that helps! Thank-you so much I can't believe how quick you were. This is exactly why i just love this forum. You have made my day. I will find a coat in between then i can be safe. Thank-you 'your a Legend' :D
  4. Hi i have been asked to send of a winter coat for a photo shoot in a Magazine, but the Dog hasn't been measured. And the coat needs to leave i the morning. Can anyone who has this breed please measure their dog from the neck ( collar region ) to just before the tail. Or offer some advice on the size, i have checked out the forum and also AKC but can't find anything that helps. Thank-you in advance I appriciate it.
  5. Buster bite me on the lip and i had 6 stitches about 6 weeks ago. He was in a grumpy mood and i lent down to kiss him and he snapped at me. All my fault! There was blood everywhere. The worst part was the middle of the lip wouldn't numb so i could feel the needle when it was about half way through, I couldn't talk all i could do was squeeze my husbands had, the tighter i squeezed the more he was telling the dr to give her more local. I don't blame Buster he has turned into a grumpy old man since he was bitten by brown snakes twice within 5 days last November
  6. Iam new to Dol and find it very interesting and wished i had joined before i got my first Boy Buster. I think i would have learnt what not to do as much as what to do. The advice from other Doler's is very helpful.
  7. Might be cheaper to advertise for someone to tow it to you. Put an advert out where you bought it from. You never know, someone may just be coming your way.
  8. Buster steals undies and socks out of the laundry basket while we are folding them, then lies on his bed with his neck stretched out over the item so we can't get it (Or maybe he's hiding them) Charli steals my daughters toys, only the pink ones thou. Charli also sleeps under my desk in my office and if iam not careful will steal toys that have arrived and iam entering into the computer, she will grab them and run off playing with them, so i have to give them to her as they can't be sold, It's costing me a fortune in toys.
  9. Was it inconsistent before treatment started? as Shadow seams ok tonight?
  10. Voted And passing on to family, friends, clients. Posting on twitter, my facebook, Busters facebook etc.
  11. As I said, fleas aren't an issue where I live. If they were, I'd probably be using a spot treatment. That's what I used the one time the dogs got some. Ditto here We have only ever seen one flea on Buster and we used spot treatment that night and they have never been seen since.
  12. Thank-you for your post, how old was your Dane when she started to develop the wetness? With the Implant was this latest one a different brand than your previous ones?, I like the idea that this can be used rather than a daily tablet. Shadow did seem rather embarressed by it, I will look at getting a waterproof matress for her bed, cot would fit perfectly. In the warmer months she has a cooler bed so we will just need to wipe it down through the Day/night for her.
  13. It wasn't a Bladder Infection, Vet thinks it is an oestragen issue, Not enough, they said that older dogs that are desexed ( although she is only 5 ) can develop deficancies We have to watch her the next few days and if it continues Vet will try her on tabs for it. Sorry for spelling Cant get the spell check to work
  14. We are taking Shadow (labrador) to Vet this Morning. We noticed last night when she sat down then got up a little wet patch would be were she sat. She is Desexed ( at 6 Months ) and she will be 5 in April, so we assume it would be something like a Bladder Infection. Do you think i would be right? and has anyone else had a dog with a Bladder infection and how would she get it?
  15. Buster - I thought it would be appropriate for this little guy, Turns out it suited him Shadow - My Husband named her and as you walk she is that close behind you that her nose taps the back of your knee Charli - My Daughter named her, she thought it was a cute name.
  16. Because other suppliers then cannot compete and people will stop stocking them. I still find it odd that they were being sold for cost price to begin with - whats the point if you aren't making anything?? Theres got to be some catch... I agree Wagsalot I am contemplating on getting rid of the range. Although i think they are fabulous and Houndbags is a small business as well. I did contact Houndbags last Sept when i took on the range, when i found out someone was selling them just about at Cost ( but not including the freight ) The reply i got was that they couldn't really stop them and that they were moving them. Selling at cost is really great for the comsumer, but retailers will stop stocking them and it will be bad for the industry - Job losses and customer support to begin with. ( just look at what has happened with the clients of houndbag and the ebay seller where are they now to help after the sale has gone through )
  17. I think you are refering to the Lead Handle as a Collar? (if i am correct in assuming) It is sewn in place and can be used either as a handle or to tether around a pole if you are say going into a shop and have to leave our Dog outside.
  18. 3 dogs. Country town or outskirts. Plus lots of Visitors.
  19. 1. Dyson Vac 2. Tuff Grunt Toys & Squeaker mats ( Buster removed about 3 of the squeakers at first, now just plays with it ) 3. Petark Calm ( Charli is a different little Dog now )
  20. Our lab sheds like crazy too, I use one of those brooms twice a day and dust bust around her bed every other day. Still seemed to be hair everywhere you can walk behind her and sweep! I was going to get one of those remote vacs a few years ago ( but bad press turned me against it, Choice or tv show can't recall where i seen story ) It wasn't the brand mentioned thou! Would love to hear if anyone else has them. Although couldn't be on when Buster was around, he'd be trying to round it up. I recon the only solution is decking, its great the hair just falls through the cracks, don't think it would work inside thou! :D
  21. Glad to hear everything is ok, you must be so relieved it is an awful feeling. My Buster has had three bites, the last two where within 5 days of each other last Nov and both Browns. First a/c was about $1100, second was $2600, he needed two antivenene's and blood, then a blood transfusion on the second. He's aged so much though since the last two. PS I can understand Vets wanting payment up front, thank-fully my vet didn't i just blurted i have pet insurance and they went ahead.
