Very True

If only hey :D I truly don't mind the snakes being on the rest of our property but why can't they just ping off out of the dog yards and house yard I agree idigadog, we have 50 acres, so i can't see why they need to be in the Dog run, or the House area. We approx 2 acres area electified and a House Yard as well. 2 Dams outside the Electified area where plenty of frogs are, the guy doing our irigation last year said he seen a red belly black in the furtherest dam catching Frogs. So there is no need to come into our Yard. We didn't finish all our Snake proofing should be either through the week or next weekend. Iam also going to put a Camera facing the Dog Run and link it to my Computer and Phone as iam about to go back into my retail store so i won't be home all day every day. i will at least be able to check on my dogs and race home if i see any snakes or see my Dogs in trouble.

Did the Vet give Rookie antihistamains (sp) first, every time Busters been Bitten ( 3x ) they have given them first, in case of a reaction, apparently its because the antivenin is from Horses and Dogs can be alergic to Horses, this is what one of the Vets told me. Its really upsetting watching them wait while the antohistamin works before they get the AntiVenein in, this is when i break down and get nervous. Busters first bite was a Red Belly Black at the end of the season, he came through that really well. But after the Two Browns last year he has aged so much ( he was just over 4 1/2 when it happened ) He also has issues with his Kidneys, we have taken him to a Chiropractor, who helped a lot with manipulation and laser treatment. I hope Rookie and his Sister never see another snake, what Breed are they?

Thats where Buster was bitten Last Year, on the chest and he needed two vials as well as a Blood Tranfuxion, The Vet Shaved his Chest as it like a Blood Blister due to the effects of the Brown.

Shadow our lab has eaten a whole xmas cake that she stole from the Pantry one year, I think as far as we know this was the worst thing she has eaten. It's is amazing what some dogs will eat thou.

Ceramic Tiles and Carpet. While the carpet is worse if something is spilt on it as it is harder to clean that tiles, fur is more hidden on the carpet than the ceramic tiles. I know when we have to vacumn and mop when clumps of fur gather in the corners and along the skirting where the tiles are. If i knew then what i know now, i would tile the whole living areas and put down nice big rugs and just change the rugs when needed, or i wanted a different look.

Excuse my ignorance what is no 7 shot? This snake went across about 15m of bare ground on gravel so it must have been on a mission somewhere. Unfortunatly we do have some mice the buggers are hard to get rid of and our dogs will catch them, so iam worried about poisoning them incase they eat the mice.

I googled native miner and iam not sure i have them, but will plant some grevilleas to encourage them. Thank-you I do have Eagles, Hawks, Magpies, willy wagtails, ducks, Plovers ( nasty bird ), Kookaburras, i think they are Pee wee's & Butchers and loads more birds. amazingly as we don't have many tree's we are on fairly cleared land and had to keep house clear for fire proofing.

A Scare On My Walk The Other Morning
D4DOGZ replied to all that glitters's topic in General Dog Discussion
How terrible for you. I wonder if this person has lost a dog that looks like yours, seems really strange to keep looking and turning around, especially since you can identify him to police by the number plates. It's not fair that you are scared now to go on walks by yourself. -
The reason i ask ( and know the snake repellers dont work ) is... On friday we heard all our dogs barking like mad, they were in their run which is approx 12m x 6m, as they were barking more constant than they usually do at the birds, cows or Horses. I went out to the outside of their run to where they were barking and there caught up in the netting was a brown snake, i got the dogs inside and called my husband. We dealt with the snake ( Not sure how i did this as i was shaking so much ), then we realised it had been only a few meters away from the snake repeller on the other side of their run, we checked the repeller yes it was still working ( we had installed 12 last year after Buster was bitten twice ), early septemeber we checked they were all working for the new snake season. Luckily i insisted that the bird netting also be installed. Also a point to note running alongside the dog run were the snake was is the cable that runs to the electric fence that cover about 2 acres of our 50 acre property. The cable is insulated but i have also been told that electric fence wire can deter them ( CRAP ) This snake has travelled from a paddock to the Dog run over about 15 metres of Gravel. I know some people don't like the Bird Netting as it is cruel but the way i see it is if a snake is going to go into my dogs run the snake will be attached then both the snake and one or more of my dogs are going to be harmed or worse die. This way my dogs are hopefully protected. Ironically this has happened right in the middle of the two dates last year that buster was bitten, 27th Oct and 1st Nov last year ( 29th this year ) The 1st Nov last year was in the dog run before netting. We do have a lot of Frogs in our area so i guess this is why we have snakes, but how do you deter Frogs! Added a pic hope it worked ok showing the snake and the repeller the other side, there is these (Snake and Elephant ) repellers all around our yard

Ok so it's now well and truely Snake season. Whats is the best way to keep snakes from entering the area where Dogs reside whilst outside?
-
NO, not a symptom of snake bite at all. At the end of the day only YOU can make the decision if you need to go to the vet or not. Everyone else (as good intensions as they have, bless) are only speculating. Only YOU can see your dog and can determine how uncomfortable she is and how worried you are. I am sure you will make the right decision, and the vet isn't far away, so that's a bonus. I hope she's well this morning for you I mentioned snake bite as Buster had frothy clear/yellow foam around his mouth when i found him after his last brown bite, it would have been sick, i was concerned that GoldenGirl85 hadn't seen if she had been sick.

No, unfortunately I dont have mobile service here and there is no landline I really think she is fine, Im keeping her inside and watching her, this is more about what makes you decide what to do if its you in the situation, how 'bad' do they have to be before you decide its worthy of vet treatment Jaquilee I was going to rush her down when she was frothing but that stopped very quickly I hope everything is ok. To answer your Question about how bad does it have to be, I have taken our dogs to the vet on all occassions when something was out of the ordinary, once Buster was out of site for about a minute came back when called went to jump onto a low window ledge to bark at a bird and fell off, i sensed something was wrong. I said to my husband i think he's been bitten by a snake, no sooner had i said it that he sat in his funny little sit without letting his bum touch the ground and i said we are going to the vet asap because he wouldn't normally sit if birds were flying around. As we were 25 minutes away from the vet at that stage i thought well if i get there and he's ok all i've wasted is petrol. He had been bitten by a snake and judging by his symptons the vet said a Brown. I think sometimes i may overreact, but i have only every wasted one trip to the Vet, when Buster caught a Brown and we didn't see any signs but took him just in case, he hadn't been bitten but it made for an interesting New Years eve. And yes Buster is the one who goes the most, between snakes and grass seeds the Vet loves us ( Thank god we don't have Cade Toads here YET! )

Can you call the Vet at all to see what they say?
-
Could it be a snake bite?

Did you bank the Cheque?

Buster our JRT x Mini Fox Although doesn't clean Teeth or Mouths, cleans both our other dogs ears, he obviously likes it as he closes his eyes and really gets into it. Charli our JRT x Australian Terrier, puts her mouth in Shadows mouth when shadow has a bone so she can get all the small bits as she is to lazy to chew herself, it's quite funny actually her mouth is right up next to shadows ready to grab any little bits that fall out. Maybe George is getting left overs?

Manchurian Pear Fruit Is It Poisonous To Dogs?
D4DOGZ replied to Tapua's topic in General Dog Discussion
We have one in the Dog run and when i bought it was assured that it was not poisonous. We have a lab and the first year she chewed a few branches but we were told to use Tabasco Sause on the lower branches which we did, she stopped chewing very quickly. They are a great shade tree Shadow loves to lie under it, we put mulch around the base and wet it down if we have to leave them in their run so it is nice and cool, I also spray water up into the tree so it falls when the wind blows ( we have a dams so i can do this quite often ) Also have never seen Shadow eat any of the berries. -
Thanks How long does it take to work?
