  1. Thanks everyone for your thoughts.. Persephone, I clicker train my pup and he does already know the down. We were practising rather than learning a new behaviour. Rather than being anxious, he seems to love training and gets very overexcited which I think may have led to the humping to maybe release his excitement? Is this possible? But anyway, I did what poodlefan said and said a loud 'BAH!' when he did it the next few times and he seems to have stopped it. Also helped by me remaining much calmer during training (I tend to get very enthusiastic too!) Thanks again for the advice..
  2. My 13 week old Jack Russell pup today started humping my arm while we were busy training. I was getting him to 'down' and he just grabbed my arm!.. and now he's just done it again as I was sitting on the floor with him giving him a cuddle. I realise its a behaviour that I need to nip in the bud now but aren't sure whether to just get up and walk away ie. ignore it and don't reward it.. or whether to actively correct it with a 'NO' or similar. I've done a search on the forum but they seem to be with older puppies so I'm not sure what the right thing to do in this situation is.. Please help!
  3. Bluefairy - Just wanted to pop in to say CONGRATULATIONS!!! :D She's gorgeous!! I can't believe you finally have your puppy.. Enjoy spoiling her rotten.. ;)
  4. Bluefairy - So soon now!!!! Just a few more days and your waiting is over! Costa's mum - I agree with Bluefairy.. A really intelligent face. You're going to have so much fun with him. Nicolatu - A puppy at our puppy class had her leg in a bandage last week cos she's also caught her leg in the playpen trying to jump over.. Seems to happen quite a bit unfortunately.. Niques - Not surprised that everyone loves James.. He's such a cutie! As for Badger's name, when he was born he was virtually all black and white (except for his eyebrows! :p ) and just looked like a baby badger. We all liked the sound of the name and it just stuck. Funnily enough, as he's got older the white and black on his face is all turning brown.. Although I must say, hardly anyone ever calls him Badger.. Its either Badge, Badgie, Budgie, Little Man, Little Prince, Grizzly Chops (Don't ask!), or Snapper (cos of the sound of his crocodile jaws snapping shut when he's excited.. )
  5. Bluefairy - That's AWESOME news!!!! Can't believe its so soon after all your waiting.. and waiting.. and waiting.. and waiting!! Congrats! Hope it all goes well.. Enjoy the wedding and then lots and lots of pics please..
  6. She's beautiful, Poppyx! Thanks for the great pics!
  7. Thanks for the replies.. Persephone, I'll try what you suggested this weekend... Thanks for the advice.
  8. Hi guys Hope you can give me some advice... My 12 week old Jack Russell puppy poos and vomits in the car EVERY time he gets in.. Initially, I thought the pooing was just bad timing and he just needed to go.. but he still poos even if he's just gone before we get in the car. He doesn't whine or whimper or anything to suggest that he's anxious except maybe slight stiffness but it happens within 3 mins of the drive starting... EVERY TIME! I've tried having him in his crate, in a harness and loose on a person's lap so he could look out the window (not the safest, I know, but was trying everything..) and it makes no difference. (Pooed all over my son!) He also vomits.. usually after he's pooed.. so am assuming this is car sickness.. I'm hoping to avoid having to give him medication everytime I want to take him anywhere but now I'm too 'scared' to take him even to fetch the kids from school (and its only 950m away! ) cos when I took him yesterday (was feeling too lazy to walk) he still pooed and vomited. Needless to say the kids were charmed to get into that stinky car! Anyone have any suggestions, advice, secret remedies, magic wands that might help? How would I go about reducing his anxiety if this is the cause of the pooing? Do dogs ever grow out of car sickness? Hope you can help me before next Wednesday cos have a 10 minute drive to our puppy class!
  9. Hey Poppyx Just popping in to wish you all the best for today.. Hope it all goes smoothly. Take lots of pics for us!
  10. Wow, MAD! What a surprise!! Sorry to hear about the sad circumstances surrounding her acquisition but that's fab news for you! Can't wait to see the pics and hear more about her... Niques, glad to hear you've finally got the welcome you were hoping for.. Badger also attacks our visitors with love! He gets so wriggly and nippy and squirmy with excitement.. I'm trying to teach him the "sit to get affection" technique but we are SO far away from that one... Does anyone else have as much difficulty as me taking good pics of their new puppies? Badger is IMPOSSIBLE! I seriously need a SLR camera with a 'speed of light' shutter speed option... There's only so many pictures of a sleeping puppy one can take!
  11. Hope it all goes well... Will be sending Ruby lots of positive thoughts.. Let us know how she does....
  12. So glad to hear everything's okay, Bluefairy! Now take it easy and don't overdo it! CruiseNRoxy... Hemi is a real sweetie-pie! Badger went to his first puppy class last night.. He LOVED it! So heartwarming to see him playing with a whole lot of pups and having such a good time.. Pee'd and poo'd on my son's lap in the car coming home though.. (which luckily we all thought was hysterically funny! My son's 7 so you can imagine the response... ) but then Badger walked straight into his bed and collapsed unconscious - It was a very busy night for my little man... Then this morning, I picked up his lead to move it off the counter and Badger rushed through to the garage and sat by the car.. Think he wanted to go back! Hope all the other pups are doing well... Here's my latest pic of Badger.. (Just for Saxonpup!)
  13. Badger definitely knows his name.. although his breeder knew what we wanted to call him when he was very young so she'd been using his name for a few weeks before he came home.. but whether or not he comes when I call him depends on how he's feeling at that moment..
  14. Hey everyone Sorry that I've been a bit scarce on DOL over the last few days.. Been catching up on everything that was put on hold for Badger's first 2 weeks.. Great to hear that the new arrivals are doing so well, KritalJay and Jules 46 Bluefairy.. Lots of exciting times ahead! Missin Bastian - Looking forward to seeing some pics of your new pup.. Niques.. Badger and James seem to be kindred spirits.. I leave him in the laundry for 4 hours and there is not a wee to be seen but today we had visitors over so I wasn't extra vigilant and he did 2 wees inside the house within 15 minutes of each other! On the up side is that he does all his poos outside now on his own and he's slept through til 6am for 3 nights in a row! I stuff his kong with Kong Puppy paste stuff in the little hole, fill up with kibble and then put cream cheese to seal the top..
  15. Hi jettyjet I had a go at your signature.. Hope you like it but please don't feel you have to use it if you don't..
  16. Hi Costa's Mum.. Always nice to welcome new people to this thread.. At the moment Badger just has a fleecy blanket in his crate.. His snuggly dog bed does fit in it but it has just been so hot lately I think he'd cook in it.. Poppyx.. Hope the 19th works out for everybody.. Holding thumbs all goes according to plan - on your side as well as the breeders..
  17. Niques, Badger is having his second vacc on Monday.. (He'll be 10 weeks old) I didn't take him for a check up before cos he's so healthy and active and eating well and even if the vet found a heart murmer or something, we knew we'd still keep him.. I guess if you're worried about something, you should take them earlier...
  18. Ah no, Poppyx.. So sorry to hear about the delay.. Also curious as to why the delay? Does it sound like a legit reason?
  19. Kahlua, don't you want to give Ivy's sig a try to see if she likes it better?
  20. Niques, had to just tell you after our earlier posts that I had to leave Badger for 3 and a half hours this evening while we went out and when we got back, he was beside himself with joy! Was so excited to see us! So obviously I have to go out for a decent length of time for him to really miss me.. Great news about your toilet training and general behaviour.. Well, not yours.. I mean James's..
  21. What a cutie! Looks like he gives you lots of slobbery kisses.. :D
  22. Just had to have a little brag about my clever boy.. He now does sit and stays while I walk 4metres away and holds it for over 10 seconds! SO proud of him.. His down and 'watch me' are also nearly there but his 'come' is virtually non-existent (only if HE feels like it) so I can relate to you, Niques.. ;) And no accidents in the house so far today (but its only 2pm so hoping it'll last)..
