Does she spend anytime in her crate during the day? She needs to learn to settle in the crate. I'd also try not to turn any lights on, and dont talk to her when you take her to pee. She wakes, pee's then goes back to sleep with no real interaction. I'd let her sleep close to you. Maybe she wakes in the night and feels lonely? Thanks for your fast response Sometimes during the day mainly on weekends because we arent home during the day (she gets the whole house to her self) we do give her a treat in her crate and then once she has finished it she will usually settle, but if you do just put her in there for no reason she carries on like a pork chop FOREVER! We have another dog and he is settled but she just cannot settle... Maybe I will try the "no interaction" that could work...and maybe I will bring her crate into the bedroom and slowly move it to where we eventually want her to sleep, does that seem silly??

Hi all, We have got a Mini Foxie Puppy and every night about 2am - 4am she wakes up and needs to go to the toilet and when we put her back in her crate to go back to bed she whinges and does NOT stop EVER we thought if we did this often enough she would learn but never does, does anybody have any suggestions? I always take her to the toilet before bed but we find if her crate is in our bedroom or near our bedroom door she will sleep the whole night...go figure!! Cheers

Yeh he is a dark brindle, another night he slept through waking up at normal time 615...Hopefully this is the routine from now on Hes a good boy when hes asleep...

Hey Guys This time last week i was picking up Diesel at the airport with a 4 hour drive home, but there was flash floods the road was flooded and we couldnt get through. We had to stay in Stuarts Well in a cabin, not knowing what had been in there before, his crate setup newspaper and towels all over the ground. He settle ok with getting up 4 times during the night. What a nigthmare start We finally got home the next day and he slept the whole way home which was fantastic...The past week we have only had one accident inside and getting up only once during the night to go outside to toilet....Last night was his first night he slept through till 7am when i got up....I couldnt be happier with the progress he is making...So full of energy at times then always at your feet..lol Pictures to come soon... Hey Everyone I only have 10 days to go till we get Diesel our SBT,pictures on staffordfan thread. Hey Lauren, my breeder sends me heaps of photos every week and answers any questions that i ask her... Only having two photos in nearly 8 weeks i dont think it would be cheeky to ask for a couple more.

That sums it up pretty good, and something not to small:) Im an owner of racing greyhounds so will prob have a few of them later in life after they finish racing, so will pass with them for the moment...

Any dingos in the area...? A small dog outside is a meal to those guys. Wouldnt say exactly pure breed dingo's but a cross of dingo and something...Havent heard of attacks to people or dogs but they are out there.. Thats why it will be inside during the day and sleep inside at night.Only outside when someone is home and then it is to hot.

Small yard = lower energy dog or a lot of exercise and stimulation. Size isn't the best measure of that. If you're going to be living in a fairly high density residential situation a lower level of reactivity in a dog would be something to strive for too. Is body corporate OK with this? A lot aren't. Thanks for the information... Where i live(ayers rock) is very small population of people(500) I live in housing that allows me to have dogs. Where i live the speed limit is 40kms and one of the quietest places in Australia, on the residential side of things:)

Running randomly around a sports oval with a person who doesn't have a lot of dog experience, er - please don't! Well i hope i am smarter then to let a dog off the lead that hasnt been trained to recall...To run around the oval is something i would work towards. If it means only playing zoomies in the backyard and walking him on a lead for the first couple of years, well so be it.

I have grown up with dogs my whole life family wise. Before i moved to Nt looked after my OH's parents schnauzer for 3 yrs. I have already done a lot of research on breeds, training etc but just wanted other owners and breeders opinions.

sorry meant Cavalier King Charles, my OH started this thread this morning and thinks that because we have a small yard we have to have a small dog, which i dont htink is entirely true,correct me if im wrong. Have edited original post.

Will keep the whippet in mind and do some more research on it,but my OH, she doesnt like them might need more info from you guys to why they are suitable and a great pet!!Myself likes amstaff,eng staff,ridgebacks,boxers,or possible gun dogs but dont know much about them as yet.

hey guys thanks for the replys. The situation is i live in a remote area 4 hours drive from closest town. There are about 20 dogs where i live of all different ages and different breeds. Size of dog doesnt really bother me as long as it loves running around at the local oval as i play a lot of sport. At worst it would be home 20 hours a week by itself as my partner works mornings and nights on a rotating roster. I would prefer it to be inside during the day as it can very hot here. Willing to groom once a week. Hope i dont offend anyone but king charles is out and so is JRT. I have to like the dog as much as it has to suit my situation.
