What a cute guy, Flynn is! He looks incredibly soft in that first picture. Hope the fire stays back, littlehoot! Lola only has one daytime nap? I don't know what I'd do if James didn't sleep so much - it's a welcome reprieve! Particlarly in the mornings - he generally gets about 45 minutes of play before breakfast, and then within an hour/hour and a half of waking up, he's back to sleep FD26, how did last night go? Any improvement from the first night? I think the most frustrating accidents are the ones that happen right after you've just taken them out. We had one of those this morning - I'd literally just put him down on the floor after coming inside and he did a wee. So close, KritalJay! Hope the next couple of days pass quickly! Very crafty, bluefairy! He slept to 6am this morning! I was very happy to note the time! And we seem to be sticking to only having one toilet stop in the night. How's everyone's basic training (sit, come, etc.) coming along? James is starting to get the impression of when we expect him to sit (before food, when he's jumping/overexcited and before toys, etc.) and will happily do so, but otherwise he has very selective hearing

Badger's pouncing pose is too cute! We've put off buying a proper bed for James until he's old enough to not chew it to pieces, so he's had a cardboard box nicely set up for him. A cardboard box that he has made a point of not using, prefering to sleep on the floor. So on a whim this arvo, I pulled out a crate-like container that I put together just before he came (and abandoned before attaching a door as it occured that he'd be far too big for it), and even before I've stuck towels in to make it comfortable, he was wandering inside of his own volition. Come his next nap, I find this: Am thinking that maybe crate training would have really suited him. But, at least he has a proper bed now.

MAD, I've forgotten if you've already mentioned, sorry - do you already have a breeder/parents for your pup lined up?t I'm glad to hear Flynn's settling in well, Jules! Can't wait to see pics! If you've already taken them off your camera and have them on your computer, you can add them to your post using the list "Attachments" section that's just under the text box where you type your post. I know the feeling! I think it was the second night we had James, two of our neighbours were having separate parties - loads of people about -and I was out at 11pm wandering the lawn, in the rain, in my PJs, torch in hand, following a dog (who meandered all around the front lawn, no less!) so he could do a wee.

I'm sorry, I had to laugh at that image Sorry your first night was disruptive and here's hoping tonight will be much, much easier :D Badger is absolutely adorable. He's so tiny! He has such a handsome, wise face I forgot how little he is! Red Ruby, you sound like you've got youreself a lovely little girl! Love the turtle comment I envy the laziness! James is prone is bursts of insanity in the evenings. It's been raining on and off (more on than off today) for a couple of days now and it's becoming increasingly unpleasant to toilet him. The grass has become a mucky paddling pool, particularly in the areas in both the front and back yard that he likes to use for his poos as they're both heavily shaded and thus have sparser grass growth. So I'm standing there in the pouring rain, slipping around in a mushy pile of mud and grass whilst he dives into the garden to have a lie down out of the rain, under a tree. We've been having accidents galore today. He's still only had the one misplaced poo since we've had him, but he's weeing left, right and centre! One was because he was eating his leash as I tried to take him out, so I was ignoring him til he calmed down. So he wandered off to have a wee whilst my back was turned. That'll teach me.

How cute are corgi pups?! I don't envy your decision - they're all far too adorable! FD26, he's such a gorgeous little guy! Joker's a brilliant name. I hope he gets used to his crate - we're not using one, but I know the headache inducing cries of an unhappy puppy who you just want to sleep JaxD, I've tried his dry food, carrot and peanut butter (boy, that was fun to try and clean out when he decided he wouldn't bother with it) in his Kong. He really loves his chicken wing and I've heard some people put chicken in their Kongs, but I'm hesitant to as he's a messy little grub. I have to keep evicting him to the verandah because he likes to take his wing out of the bowl and plonk it down on his rug in the living room. Hosing out the garage after a chicken Kong doesn't sound fun. Putting some of his mince + cream cheese might be a slightly cleaner option. He's really getting into his frozen brussel sprouts as well. Not eating them, but pouncing on them as they roll away Love the cheese suggestion - I'd forgotten cheese. I'll have to try it tomorrow. Good luck with the clickering, Oakeydoak! That's great that she responds well to praise! As for favourite game, he loves chasing/capturing/killing his stuffed duck. And trying to chew on me. He made a mad bolt for the door halfway through his dinner and raced to the grass for a poo when I let him out. Progress

JaxD, I hear you on the up and down nature of toilet training! We've already had one accident today. FD26, you must be so excited! Can't wait to hear from you when he's home! Littlehoot, we've only gone out for 20-30 minute periods, always leaving someone quietly in the house to listen for a reaction and all he's done is slept. I'm back at uni this week so his big test is Thursday when he'll be all alone for about 5 hours. I'll be interested in how Lola goes I wish he'd start showing some food interest. He likes to roll his kong about when it's empty, but full... He won't have anything to do with it for more that a couple of minutes.

Yeah, I'm starting to reconsider that idea. He ate quite well the first day and a half, but has been getting worse. Obviously not starving himself, but only eating about half of what his breeder has recommended for breakfast and dinner. Hopefully he'll settle into it. Oakeydoak, that's a great photo! Red Ruby, those pictures crack me up! Especially the screen door one. That looks incredibly uncomfortable. She looks so little in the first one! Absolutely adorable. James slept through to 4:30 this morning. With only one toilet break at 9:30 when I moved him downstairs to his playpen (he'd been asleep since about 7:30). So sleeping through the night is going well. Now to adjust his bedtime! We've had a couple more accidents due to my slowness (and thinking he could hold it until I finished my last Weetbix ). He also did his first poo indoors this morning which was a bit strange as I'd just taken him out. I think he was antsy about being put back to bed. And I think we're finally getting through to him about biting us. I can see him thinking after I've yelped and walked away - he now quiets down and stops biting/jumping Anyone else got a toothy fiend?

She's beautiful, littlehoot! Hope she does well with the clicker. I tried starting the clicker today but James is just so not food oriented. I think he's managed to somehow skip the labrador, "MUST EAT EVERYTHING!!" gene. So I've mainly just been focussing on having him sit for his food bowl and throwing in the occasional "sit for a piece of dry food".

And his crazy 'bat' look:

Didles, I'm sure Winston will have a fantastic life with your family - he sounds (and looks! ) much loved already. I love the name Winston on a bulldog, by the way. It's somehow very suited to the breed. Ruby and Winston are both adorable. Well done, Badger! He sounds like such a little character. James hasn't had any accidents since yesterday morning! And he made his own way to the laundry door at one point this morning and did a wee as soon as I let him out, so I'm hoping that's indicating some awareness! Another pretty crap night, though. He was up three times - toileted for two of those, which was good. But he's still crying and banging against his playpen when I put him back. And by 5:30am he's crying non-stop. The problem is that he's out like a light by 8pm at night. I took him out at 9:30 last night, before I moved him downstairs to his bed, and he tried to go back to sleep while I put his collar on, and again when we got outside. Of course, the plus side is that he's such a sleepy little bugger that he's back asleep again each morning by 6:30/7:00. Anyway, I finally got around to taking pictures this morning. This is him with his beloved duck. He goes about chasing and pouncing on it, before proceeding to shake it to death. It's absolutely hilarious to watch.

Oh, Didles. I hope you make the best choice for your family - your breeder sounds like a terrific person. Good luck to everyone getting their dogs today! Hope your first day goes well. First night...was sleepless :D He slept through till what I assume was about 1-2am. We went outside. Had an accident on the way out because it took so long to attach his collar/lead. But he pooed outside which is excellent! He went back to sleep after a tiny bit of crying, but by 4amish, he was shrieking non-stop. Eventually I had to wait for a half a second of silence to praise him and let him out. We've had a really good morning though. A couple of wees inside, but, for the most part, he's found his toilet spot in the backyard. And he's going quite promptly - within a couple of minutes - of putting him down there. By god, the boy sleeps though! I knew he'd spend a lot of the day sleeping, but I'm still surprised. Hah, someone reassure me - every dog sleeps this much, yes? I'm feeling a bit unwell today though, so it's good that he's lazing around with me.
-
Didles, that's really just heartbreaking. I feel for your family and the poor little guy! James is a total sleepyhead. I forsee and early morning as I think I've put him to sleep far too early. Although, on the upside, there was only about 10 seconds of crying; he was so tired. Totally slipped my mind to ask his breeder his litter's approximate usual waking time, so here's hoping he's just had a very long day and will sleep through the night. Realistically, I think I'll have an energetic puppy awake in the wee hours of the morning

James is home!! Been a bit rough so far - I'm exhausted! And he's conked out on the living room floor next to me He cried for start of the trip home. I felt so bad for him. Eventually he settled down and slept, occasionally waking up for a small cry. Toilet training is just confusing! Lol. We popped him on the lawn as soon as we got home and he just plonked himself down for a nap, so we took him inside and he does a wee All is good though. He's since done a wee outside, although he should have a full bladder right now whilst he's sleeping. But, once again, when I took him out prior to his sleep, he just found himself a pile of dirt and fell asleep. I'm going to have to get the hang of reading his signals Looking forward to news from Didles! Your kids will be so thrilled!!

Oakeydoak, she's stunning! Beautiful colour.

Oh Didles, he's so cute! I'm happy you've found a suitable breeder. I take it that this guy was from a prior litter to the one week olds? Not long to go now! This time tomorrow I'll have my boy at home!

God, Badger is an adorable little guy. Love the wine piccy ;) Two days left here!!
-
I love that first picture, Wuffles! What a beautiful dog. You're not alone in the nervousness, FD26. I'm worrying over what to do re: the stairs in our house. Rang around the local butchers today so am feeling on top of the food situation. Just need to go shopping now.
-
Oh, Didles, that's terrible ;) I'm sorry for you and your family. Here's hoping for a short search for a puppy. Badger conked out is just adorable!!
-
Aww, Badger is adorable! Love his facial colouring - he really does look like a badger. We won't be showing James, but will look into agility and/or obedience down the line.
-
5 days left for us! Went to see him again today - absolutely adorable. The whole litter chewed up my hands though. As soon as you try to pull one off your finger, another's latched on to a toe! ;) I think we're pretty well covered in terms of supplies. We've still got to pick up his dry food and raw chicken bits and pieces to freeze. And his ear/flea/worming products. And a downstairs water bowl. Other than that, I think we're done.

You're in Ipswich, no? Just google "Ipswich dog park". Your council's website will have a list. Similarly, google for dog beaches on the Gold or Sunshine coasts and find the council page.

That's a shame, Didles. Hope all's well with him by this afternoon!

Foods That Are Poisonous For Dogs
Niques replied to Westie Girl's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Regarding egg whites, I've read around the place (and I'm sure our breeder mentioned it too - I'll have to check with her) that a whole egg can be mixed in with their dry food. How often is too often in terms of doing that? -
Congrats to all who have their pups home! Hope everything's going smoothly! Our boy comes home in a week. I think we're all set in terms of supplies.
