Lost Dogs' Home Kill Child's Beloved Dog
NoKillAustralia replied to notmyrealname's topic in In The News
So sad but not surprising. Microchipping is not the Godsend it's supporters claim. Has taken me over half a dozen phonecalls to have my wife's name added because the vet didn't do it initially. Lab crosses can look surprisingly like Pits. Perhaps that has more to do with it. -

Credibility comes from the evidence not who's presenting it. Is the Holocaust less true because the death camps were exposed by the Russians, the biggest mass murderers in history? Of course not. Only the blinkered supporters of HSUS, PETA and RSPCA would quibble over this. -
Councillor's "animal Killers" Claims Puts Pet Desexing I

Excellent suggestion. Mandatory laws don't work and simply end up killing dogs. -

Couldn't agree more. The first step to no pets and the one's which will suffer (die) are the dogs. So, you support the breeding of crossbreeds for "pets" - what's wrong with purebreds? Nothing providing it's done correctly. PDE showed it isn't, unlike your beutiful darlings PF. Are they just sow ponies or do u do agility with them? (Off topic I know) -
Liberal Senator Helen Kroger Injured In Dog Attack
NoKillAustralia replied to The Spotted Devil's topic in In The News
She's a Senator, the only legislation I have seen people concerned about lately is all state so why would she be relevant? The only Commonwealth dog legislation I am aware of is the import bans. But if you want to contact her all her details will be on aph.gov.au (parliament house site) I don't want to contact her at the moment (nothing to say), but figure it's handy to know who's a dog-nut and who's not in the political World for future reference. I did not know she was federal, please forgive my ignorance. Virtually all BSL is based on Federal Government Import restrictions banning breeds banned from importation into Australia. Lift them and BSL ends overnight. Senator Kroger could be the poster girl for deed not breed. Remains to be seen if she has the courage to take on the role or just be another party hack. -

What in the hell has this got to do with BSL ? Nothing Hipocrasy. Label some dogs dangerous the corollary is all others are safe as the senator now knows. At least u didn't deny my assertion. -
Why Do They Have Such A Bad Rep?
NoKillAustralia replied to Freshstart16's topic in General Dog Discussion
Pits were bred to be game, not DA. An aggressive dog is a scared dog and of no use to a dog fighter. Pits have stable temperment. In the states a Pit is defined as an Amstaff an APBT or a SBT. Rightly so as their history proves them to be one and the same breed. Looks differ due to different standards but what makes the dog is what's in it's head. DA is not a problem if the owners are not in denial. If we removed all DA or HA dogs from society there would be very few left. Pits were bred as hunting dogs and only a tiny minority ever abused, yes that's right, fighting Pits are the victims of abuse. The sooner this is recognised the better. Even so many of the biggest names in dogfighting had their fighting Pits (which they called Bulldogs anyway) as house dogs, raised with children and some not even willing to fight outside a Pit. Stereotyping is wrong whether we apply it to humans or dogs. Those attacking Pits are usually using the dogs to attack the owners. Illegal to do openly so get em by killing their pets. That is why Pits have such a bad rep. -
In many areas to do with animals especially pets and BSL the burden of proof is reversed, you have to show you are not guilty. Animal owners have stood by while this has gone on either ignorant of the ramifications or thinking it won't apply to them, until it does. I doubt this will even get to court as many lawyers are on RSPCA boards and will know what could be in store for them.

It appears that the honourable councillor's media spin has convinced the gullible and nay sayers who blame everything on dog owners, except themselves of course, coz they're perfect. It seems they respect others opinions as long as it doesn't differ from their own. As for the assertions made- The dog was kept for 10 days not the 3 the pound takes to kill them, probably because it was over the holiday period. I would be surprised if any effort was taken to re-home the dog in the pound's care. Did a vet diagnose Parvo? Was it simply suffering diahorrea due to a change in diet or stress, or both? It would be informative to see any paperwork on this. What infection control measures does the pound take to prevent these outbreaks? Australia is one of a handful of countries which even bother to register dogs yet no evidence exists that kill rates are lower here or even in NSW where microchipping is mandatory. It's just another method of control and punishing people by killing their pets. It's illeggal to do it any other way now. As dogs are considered disposable commodities they are killed on looks and it's the law, something more reminiscent of 1940s Germany than Australia in the 21st century, I would have thought. If it's a sheep, well we can bother to find the owner. Any wonder society is becoming more and more violent the way we view and treat companion animals! User pays is necessary for dog owners but not livestock owners, library users, pedestrians, cyclists etc. I guess the council has to fund travel junkets in some way. It seems that dog owners are the biggest contributor to council coffers than any other user of council services by far. I find it hard to believe people work as ACOs because they love animals, more so because they love the power they have over animals but more particularly their owners. Politicians are renowned for using whatever means available to control people, in this instance I believe they are using their dogs. Rather than media spin perhaps cr Andrew could tell us how the dogs are killed (simply farming them out doesn't cut the mustard) and what percentage of dogs which come into the pound's care are killed?

It doesn't matter who the CCF are. It's what they say that they should be judged on. Shooting the messenger is a clear sign one is on shaky ground. A cockfighting group has purported to have evidence linking HSUS to the Mob. If it turns out to be true one wonders how this would affect any affiliates they may have in Australia. -

S&G are a medical litigation firm. If they can get up to speed on alleged animal abuse cases the RSPCA could end up being bankrupted

After reading Cr Antoniolli's response it is my considered opinion that: 1. It represents nothing more than media spin to manage the disastrous handling of the killing of a rehomable pup. If the dog was a short-haired stocky built animal then it would simply have been labelled a Pit Bull and killed with the usual "just following orders" excuse. The three day excuse is a little harder to justify to dog lovers. 2. If the honourable councillor is aware of any studies showing mandatory microchipping leads to lower kill rates then he should quote it. To my knowledge none exists and anecdotally on many threads on this site microchipped dogs are regularly killed. The real issue is the killing of the dog, no more no less. 3. Three business days is the minimum, councils can increase it if they choose to see companion animals as other than disposable commodities. The trickle down effect of this helps us understand why we are becoming a more violent society I believe. 4. Killing dogs because of a lack of space is killing dogs because of a lack of space, not because of an oversupply which in reality doesn't exist. 5. If livestock can be held longer without bankrupting the owners then so too can companion animals. 6. How are the animals killed? By vets, gassing drowning, lethal injection, shooting clubbing. We need to know who does it, what training they have etc. 7. Are all the funds raised by Animal Management returned to Animal Management, including fines, or does it simply go to general revenue. Even the man I believe can only be described as Australia's Great Hater has labelled Queensland Pounds as anti-dog, coming from him that really is saying something. What has surprised me the most in this thread are supposed dog lovers on this site supporting what is happening to dogs, as long as it isn't theirs of course. It seems that everyone other than themselves is an irresponsible owner. Dogs get out, dogs lose their collars dogs are stolen then dumped. Should the dog have to die for this?

Why Do They Have Such A Bad Rep?
NoKillAustralia replied to Freshstart16's topic in General Dog Discussion
Pits have a bad rep because people don't understand them and anything they don't understand is scary. Pits are a game dog, not an aggressive dog. Coupled with the nonsense that they fight to the death, never give up, are unpredictable, have 2000lb jaw pressure can anyone not dislike them. IMO governments and the RSPCA have used them to scare people into donating to them and using the divide and conquoer principle to line their own pockets. The media love them because they can get all sorts of lurid footage from dogfightering busts and boost ratings. The dog world didn't recognise the breed under that name so didn't care even tho the SBT and Amstaff are one and the same breed! Finally they were an easy target for those opposed to pet ownership and for governments to control citizens through their pets. Dog owners, instead of standing together felt they could sacrifice the Pit and their breeds would be left alone. Now legislation is in place it is simpler for other breeds to be added in future which will happen unless the dog owners in this country grab the bull by the horns (or is it ba**s) and band together to vote out their opponents. IMO BSL also helps councils and "shelters" kill any dog that resembles a Pit without any justification, leaving more money to be spent on executive salaries.
